Chapter 396: Find Me Just One
"I will now begin the 28th meeting for the Rastopia Project. Let’s confirm the attendees. Representing orcs: myself, the Legion Commander."
With a circular table at the center, I raised my hand first. Starting from my right, one by one, the others raised theirs.
"Representing high elves, it’s Lune!"
"Representing slimes, Virginia Lime Virgo."
"Representing Cookies-and-Cream elves, Queen Luna."
"Representing humans, Ras Vegas chief Eila Aries."
"Representing succubi, Shaitan, at your service."
"Representing the legion’s dungeon masters, it’s Gremory’s avatar."
Every key figure responsible for our legion’s future had gathered in one place. They were the representatives of each species, the officers entrusted with crucial responsibilities in our legion, and the family I needed to protect and cherish.
"We claimed victory over Levis’s subjugation force. We’ve taken the entire barony, and on top of that, we even obtained a Holy Sword. But we still face a crisis."
Defeating Levis and taking the barony didn’t mean the end of our troubles. As the front lines expanded, new enemies would inevitably appear, and those enemies were far more formidable than the barony ever was.
"Let me introduce our new officers and fresh faces. Dragonians, step forward."
"Gray Cancer. A quarter-dragon reborn through the great bloodline of the legion. Heh heh heh, I know my dazzling beauty is blinding, but these dragon eyes see beauty even more clearly. Heh heh."
"Line! Lime-Mom’s daughter! Not a slime dragon! A dragon slime!"
"...They’re both dragonians."
The officers had already been briefed on my plan. But it was their first time seeing the newly born dragonian species in person. They studied the two, one by one, taking note of the dragonians’ features.
"I intend to infuse dragon blood into all of the legion’s soldiers, including my sons. It will take quite a bit of time before the entire legion is dragonified. In the meantime, we’ll need to overcome yet another crisis. Gray."
"Yes."
Even though the evolved Gray occasionally said strange things, he reverted to his old self in serious situations. I looked between Gray and Eila and asked.
"How does the Leo Marquisate’s military strength compare to our legion’s?"
"It’s unfavorable."
Eila stated it plainly.
"In my estimation, you should consider it roughly equivalent to my family’s strength. To put it in perspective, they possess the combat power of approximately three Holy Sword heroes."
"Shaitan, translate that into terms I can understand."
"When converting the variable of the Holy Sword into standard subjugation force combat power, they’re at a level where they could go one-on-one against a dungeon ranked in the upper teens."
"Impressive."
We hadn’t even come close to challenging the top 30, let alone the top 40. And now we were about to come face to face with an enemy in the upper teens? Alarm bells started ringing in my head.
"Legion Commander, please don’t worry. Though the Leo Marquisate’s forces are strong, they won’t stand a chance against our mighty dragonian legion."
"We’re only growing by about ten a day. How large is the Leo Marquisate’s population?"
"...Around 300,000."
Gray lowered his head. For a moment, I thought I’d misheard the number.
"300,000? Even for a marquisate, 300,000 is a huge jump! What the hell, why did the scale suddenly skyrocket like that? It’s way too different from a barony."
"The Barony of Virgo was the weakest."
"Master, this is the most underdeveloped territory in the kingdom. It’s essentially been surviving on the strength of its family’s tradition alone."
"So you’re saying that without the name recognition of its long history, it would’ve been swallowed by another territory long ago? Damn...."
The barony had been easy, which made it a great stepping stone for growth, but after stepping up from that stone, we’d run smack into a giant that was far too large.
"Ugh. Even so, the jump is way too big. Not 30,000, but 300,000...."
The barony’s population had been around 5,000 at most. Even accounting for the Barony of Virgo being a territory on the verge of collapse, the fact that the neighboring marquisate boasted 300,000 was on a completely different scale.
"Is 300,000 actually a lot for a marquisate?"
"That’s roughly the official population. It’s also one of the top ten territories in the kingdom by size."
"Even if just 10% were mobilized as a subjugation force, that’s 30,000. Ugh, the Barony of Virgo really was the weakest of the weak. I wish I hadn’t found that out."
The first danger we faced.
It was the Leo Marquisate, a territory with a population of 300,000.
If they found out that dungeon monsters had not only attacked humans but occupied an entire barony, it wouldn’t just be the marquisate; the entire kingdom would go on high alert. And at the vanguard would be the Leo Marquisate’s subjugation force.
"What kind of dick is Marquis Leo? Someone who’d attack our legion?"
"Not a dick. She’s a woman."
"Hell yeah! ...Ahem. Eila, thank you for letting me know."
"Lady Eila, I’m afraid that’s incorrect. He’s a man."
"...?"
Gray corrected Eila’s statement.
"So the woman became a dick? Is that what you’re saying?"
"To be precise, the previous Marquis Leo passed the title down to her child and then went missing. It happened not long ago. A little over a month."
"Her child? ...Tch, forget it. If she’s a woman with a child old enough to inherit the marquisate, she’s clearly been hit hard by the ravages of time. Gray, do you know anything about the new marquis...."
Eila shook her head slightly at me. I caught on as I watched Gray’s expression gradually souring.
"That bastard? The one who stole your woman?"
"I’m ashamed to say, yes."
What kind of twist of fate was this? The marquis suddenly goes missing, and the one who takes over the title happens to have bad blood with Gray.
"Well, that’s one more reason to conquer the Leo Marquisate. Gray, work harder on your missions for the legion. If we set our sights on the Leo Marquisate, I’ll grant you a special reward."
"Thank you. I will do my utmost to honor the great bloodline I’ve inherited."
Gray bowed deeply. For both the legion’s sake and Gray’s, we should have moved on the Leo Marquisate immediately, but it was simply too powerful.
"Let’s not dwell on the missing marquis for now. Operating under the assumption that the successor has full control of the marquisate, they’ll likely dispatch forces to reclaim the barony in the near future. That means another fight. Lune, do you know a good approach for a situation like this?"
"Hmm... winning without fighting!"
"Exactly. And what’s a good way to achieve that?"
"Something like signing a non-aggression pact?"
"You’re about halfway there. The precise answer is creating a situation where the enemy can’t attack us."
Clap. I gathered the officers’ attention.
"I have a plan."

[Shortly after, Allocen’s dungeon.]
"Bwahaha, that crazy bastard."
Gremory (main body), who had been raining magic down on enemies at the front, clutched her stomach and broke into a stifled laugh. Percival, standing beside her on guard duty, deflected an incoming arrow with his sword and asked.
"They are crazy, aren’t they? They keep picking fights despite losing that much supplies."
"No, no. I’m talking about your dad. My man."
"...Apologies for the slip."
"It’s fine. I was saying it because even I couldn’t believe it."
Gremory internalized the plan Rok had shared through her avatar. There was nothing particularly secret about it, but the plan was so outlandish that even Gremory needed to mull it over.
"You know, every now and then, my husband doesn’t seem like an orc."
"The Legion Commander... Father is more orc than anyone."
"True. He’s remarkably similar to what orcs were a loooong time ago, back when they were lowly creatures. Ancient orcs, they were called? Well, that’s not the point. What I’m trying to say is that he comes up with plans that defy all common sense. Want to hear it?"
Gremory summarized Rok’s plan and relayed it to Percival. Percival shuddered at even the condensed version.
"The Legion Commander truly is remarkable. If this works, we might avoid making an enemy of the Leo Marquisate entirely."
"And that’s not all. The Holy Knights rallying at the Leo Marquisate will fall apart too. It won’t be just one or two people getting burned. Wow... the more I think about it, the more devious it is. I really think I made the right choice."
"Which choice would that be?"
"Spreading my legs for your dad."
Percival cleared his throat and averted his gaze at Gremory’s blunt and suggestive phrasing.
"...There are nicer ways to put it, like ’surrendering.’"
"No, no. Simply surrendering wouldn’t have been enough. Kimaris and Amdusias surrendered just the same. There are even humans among the adventurers, like Lily. What do you think sets me apart from them? Being a dungeon master? When have you ever seen him spare someone just because they’re a dungeon master?"
"Godmother Gremory, you were certainly out to kill him too. ...And you tried to violate him using Arthur."
"Exactly. I could’ve ended up as just another woman he used and discarded. And if he’d had a mind to, that’s exactly what would’ve happened. When going up against the dungeons ranked above 56th, if someone asked, ’Hey, what’d you do with Gremory?!’ the answer would’ve been, ’Fucked her and tossed her!’"
Gremory smirked sarcastically. Percival offered no rebuttal.
"When I genuinely decided to become part of the legion, part of the family, his attitude toward me changed too. Otherwise, I’d probably have been turned into communal property for the orcs. Along with my avatar."
"I don’t think it would’ve gone that far...."
"It would have. You can see it just from what he’s planning for Levis right now. He may protect the legion’s own with his life, but he’s utterly ruthless toward anyone outside it. Ugh, I really am glad I picked the right side."
"Please use that phrasing instead."
Percival raised his sword again. Gremory also lifted her hand high and began gathering mana.
"Hey, why don’t we come up with our own operation? A perfect plan where I get some love and you get some love too. Secretly."
"...If this is a covert operation against that person, I’d have to object. After all..."
Clop, clop, clop.
A warhorse clad in steel plate armor came charging through the dungeon entrance, carrying a small-framed girl on its back. Perched on the horse, the girl was heavily armored in gleaming silver and gripped an axe tightly in her hands.
"There’s a beauty of an unknown species standing right there. Surely we should report this to the Legion Commander?"
"Absolutely not. He’d definitely get turned on and come here saying he wants to screw a dwarf."
"Even someone with a physique that young?"
"He’d stick it in a sword hilt if it had a hole. He won’t touch minors, but she’s an adult, isn’t she? Then he’d charge right in. With holy-demonic magic on top."
Gremory snickered and thrust her hand forward. The flames blazing above her palm split into eight streams and engulfed the charging warhorse.
"Hrraaagh!!"
The girl let out an unidentifiable battle cry and swung her axe in all directions. The flames Gremory had shot by gathering mana scattered into sparks against the girl’s axe swings. With her attack rendered useless, Gremory began taunting the girl.
"Hmph, pretty good deflecting for a short-armed runt."
"They’re not short!!"
The girl shrieked and leveled her axe. Percival stepped forward with his sword drawn, shielding Gremory.
"I’ll be your opponent."
"An orc? Get lost! I’m here to take that fallen angel bitch’s head and have a drink!"
"I’m no ordinary orc. I am Allocen, the master of this dungeon."
"...Tch."
The girl scowled, then lowered her axe at an angle. She thumped her chest and tilted her chin high.
"Dwarf, Rhodopelli! Intro over!"
"My, what a loud voice."
Gremory gazed at the dwarf girl, Rhodopelli, and curled the corner of her lips into a sly grin.
"How does such a big sound come out of someone with such small breasts?"
"Why, you bitch!!"
Clang!
Percival’s and Rhodopelli’s weapons collided.
The Allocen front.
The battle continued in a deadlocked stalemate, evenly matched, pushing and pulling.

"...Then let’s proceed as planned. Thank you all for going along with my proposal without major objections."
Thankfully, the officers accepted my plan. Hardly anyone found the plan absurd or had complaints; what filled them instead was anxiety over whether it would actually work.
"We only need to do one thing. I’ll handle the preparations myself. Lune, Luna. I need you two to take on a very important mission."
"Okay!"
"Gladly."
"...Good. Then please recruit exactly one person."
For this act of bluff and deception, I needed one actress who would present a truthful facade. A star performer who would expose Levis’s (fabricated) true face to the world for all to see.
"A Cookie... no, a dark elf. Just one will do. The other elves will escort her there."
The two elves’ expressions grew increasingly serious. I took each of their hands and earnestly pleaded.
"Just one. Find me just one."
"Uh, well, so...."
"A Cookies-and-Cream elf who has chosen to live as a dark elf permanently. For my grand plan, I need someone like that."
I barely managed to get out the words I’d been swallowing.
"...A dark elf who will say she was sexually assaulted by Levis Ann."
What better justification could there possibly be for the elves siding with the Demon King’s Army?
