Chapter 393: The Dragon Heart Must Stay
It might be old news at this point, but dragons are not common creatures in this world.
They possess all the typical characteristics of dragons found in your average fantasy setting, but their numbers are so few they might as well be considered an endangered species.
A mere ten.
Ten dragons exist in this world. Of those, four are active, three are hatchlings, and three are decrepit old-timers wheezing their way to death in the back room.
Why do I know all this? Because the dragons split into two factions, each supporting the human alliance and the Demon King’s Army respectively. While serving under Forneus, my top priority had been survival, and naturally, I had to stay well-informed about anything that could end my life in an instant.
Dragons are powerful. In terms of levels, they’re so strong I’d guess they hover somewhere around an average of level 150. And they’re well aware of their own strength; they’re an extremely arrogant species.
That arrogance is exactly why Solomon bashed their skulls in.
Excluding the two dragons who joined the Demon King’s Army and became dungeon masters, over a hundred dragons sided with the human alliance and were all slaughtered by Solomon. The aftermath of that battle forced Solomon himself to retreat to the rear lines, but in turn, the human alliance lost any easy path to victory against the Demon King’s Army.
In the end, dragons became even rarer than elves. Given that even elves don’t number past the thousands in this world, both dragons and elves could fairly be called endangered species.
We managed to obtain some of the dragon’s genetic factor for our legion, and while the power was tremendous, drawbacks that overshadowed those advantages began to surface.
Slash!
Gray cut down the Demi-human Andras before him in a single stroke. The sub-dungeon boss [Demi-human Andras], a pair of males, had trembled under Gray’s aura before dropping dead on the spot.
"Heh heh heh, weak, so weak. To think they’d try to stop me with just this...."
"Says the guy who couldn’t clear Vapula’s sub-dungeon and had to come down here instead."
"...My Legion Commander. That was because I’m weak, not because the power of dragons is weak."
"Sure, sure. Long live the dragon master race. It’s definitely strong, even if it’s wrecking my sanity."
Despite having only a quarter of dragon blood mixed in, Gray, now a dragonian, had his level rapidly approaching Eila’s.
Gray Cancer, Lv. 54, ★★★★★.
He’d grown strong enough to take down two level-55 Demi-human Andras on his own without much trouble. When the Cancer family’s swordsmanship was infused with the power of a dragon, his combat prowess became nothing short of formidable.
"Solomon’s system really is something else. Normally a dragon-human hybrid could’ve ended up looking like a lizardman, but look at him. Total eye candy."
"Eye candy?"
"Dragon horns, dragon wings, dragon tail. They’re arranged as if they’re decorative accessories."
Gray already had a good base appearance, and with the dragon features on top of that, he looked like a character straight out of a medieval fantasy game. The fact that his hair had bleached to silver after the synthesis only added to the mystique.
"Son of a bitch. So orc genes amount to nothing more than changing his eye color? Not a single patch of green skin anywhere."
"My Legion Commander, there is one place where your magnificent bloodline has been passed down."
Gray proudly straightened up and thrust his hips forward. I couldn’t bring myself to check.
"Put that away. There’s zero point in looking at another man’s junk."
"Then allow me to report verbally. It seems to have grown by about two finger-widths. Legion Commander, I love you."
"The hell? Were you always like this, or did Levis’s blood do this to you?"
"Thanks to you, Legion Commander, both my strength and my manhood have grown. How could I possibly not harbor such feelings toward you? If it’s uncomfortable to hear... please consider it my loyalty."
Gray grinned from ear to ear as he extracted magic stones from the Demi-human Andras. The three-star Demi-human Andras occasionally dropped mid-grade magic stones at a low rate. Someone who’d previously been on par with a two-star Andras had now grown strong enough to farm mid-grade magic stones.
"Whew. If we hadn’t captured Levis, that would’ve been a real shame. Gray, let’s head back. The time has come."
I settled onto the back of Slime Dragon Unit 3, which I’d brought along temporarily. The Andras sub-dungeon had an annoyingly spiral structure, so getting out took a bit of time.
"Gray, the battle’s over. You can put away the dragon features now."
"...I’m sorry, Legion Commander. That’s going to be difficult."
"Why? Proud of your precious dragon features and don’t want to put them away? You rascal, it’s only natural to want to show off after gaining new power."
If I had to compare Gray’s feelings, it would be like having just bought a new car. He’d been grinning nonstop, and while he nodded at my words, his smile turned awkward.
"That’s true, but it’s a bit hard to retract them on my own."
"Why? Levis was living as a full human."
"...I’m not yet capable of achieving a fully human appearance. I believe I’d need to reach what you call four or five stars before a complete transformation would be possible."
"Fair enough. Your potential is high, but your actual combat power is still lacking. Get stronger. When we start the next war, you’ll be at the vanguard."
There were still more than enough battlefields ahead. Once a sizable dragonian unit was established, Gray would lead them from the front and carry the field to victory.
"Can’t be helped, then. Guess you’ll have to live with them for a while. Heh heh, but what if you end up stuck with them forever?"
"...Actually, I can retract them to some extent right now. I can at least fold and tuck in the wings."
"Then why don’t you?"
"...I need to be mentally and physically calm to maintain my human form, and that’s proving difficult right now. I’ve actually been trying this whole time, but...."
Gray lowered his head with a sheepish smile. I walked up to him and patted his shoulder.
"You’ve just gained new power, so that’s perfectly understandable. It’s just the two of us here, so flaunt it all you want. But you’ll need to be humble in front of others. You merely received the power first..."
"Yes, of course. But, my Legion Commander, I believe there’s a misunderstanding I should clear up."
Gray continued while turning his head away from me.
"...My erection won’t go down."
"What?"
My gaze involuntarily dropped. In Gray’s lower half, a python was asserting its presence. He said it had grown a few centimeters from becoming a dragonian, so it was probably approaching my level.
"I, I need to be in a calm state to retract the wings and everything else, but for some reason my member won’t listen."
"...That’s definitely because my blood got mixed in. Can’t be helped. Even when I get hard, it doesn’t go down easily either. Heh heh heh, congratulations."
"Legion Commander, do you perhaps have a trick for calming it down...?"
"If it’s standing, just bust a nut. It goes down after you finish, doesn’t it? Why do you think I keep Lune and Lime around all the time?"
"Ah...."
Gray looked crestfallen. With his lower half perpetually raging, folding away the dragon wings was nothing but a pipe dream.
"Hang in there. And good work. Thanks to you, I’ve learned a lot about dragonians."
"Yes. ...Um, Legion Commander."
Just before leaving the sub-dungeon, Gray dropped to one knee directly before me and drove his sword into the ground.
"I, Gray Cancer, knight of the Legion of Wrath, pledge my eternal loyalty."
"...Don’t be so dramatic. You were already a member of the legion. You just happened to work outside more often. Head to Ras Vegas and stand by."
I finished speaking and left the dungeon right away. Quite a bit of time had already passed, and I turned my steps toward Flauros’s dungeon.
"Master?"
Lune, who’d been waiting for me by the portal, tilted her head.
"Are you that excited about going to lay eggs with Levis?"
"Yeah. No, Lune. I’m not finishing inside. Stop glaring at me like that."
"But Master, the corners of your mouth keep twitching!"
"...It’s because I’ve gained a capable subordinate. Lune, let’s go. I can’t wait to see what kind of eggs Levis has laid this time."
I moved to Flauros’s dungeon with Lune.
***
"You’re here again."
"It’s Line this time. Line, go ahead and get in position."
Line scrambled up onto the summoning facility. Flauros had already finished all the preparations, and I grabbed Levis by the hair as her head lolled backward.
"You can’t just pass out like that. You should see for yourself how widely your bloodline is spreading."
"D-don’t. Please, stop...!"
"No thanks."
Why would anyone willingly give up power this strong? I pinched Levis’s nipple and sneered at her.
"Do you know how many of our legion’s soldiers you killed? Do you know how many died because of the subjugation force you led? Shouldn’t you repay with your body as many lives as you stole?"
Lives taken must be repaid with lives.
"I believe all beings are equal regardless of species. The humans, orcs, elves, slimes, and others in our legion exist as individuals irrespective of race. You killed one, so birth one. Isn’t that the true path to atoning for what you’ve done to our soldiers?"
"They all came back to life!!"
"Coming back to life still means they died."
"Cut the crap! Do you have any idea how many people you’ve killed?!"
"My, my. She just won’t listen to reason."
"Ngh?!"
I grabbed Levis’s cheeks and stretched them side to side. Rather than violent torture, actions that chipped away at her pride were the true way to break Levis mentally.
"That’s why you should’ve won. If our positions were reversed, I would humbly accept whatever punishment was given to me. If it were one year of hard labor per person, I’d roll a boulder up a mountain for a thousand years if that’s what it took."
"Talk is cheap!"
"Then you should’ve won. Hm?"
"You fought dirty and now you gloat!"
Even after laying two eggs, Levis was still going strong. If anything, the more eggs she laid, the more vitality she seemed to regain. Thanks to the holy-demonic magic shaped like the Seal of Wrath branded on her lower abdomen, her divine power couldn’t manifest at all, but her stamina as a half-dragon seemed to be returning in full force.
"Dirty or not, winning is all that matters. Levis, you lost, but you fought well. Just holding out against the combined assault from Luna and me in midair was enough to prove your resolve. Damn, if you’d resisted the pleasure just a bit longer, you could’ve flown all the way to the Leo Marquisate. Isn’t that right?"
"...Hmph!"
Levis snorted and turned her head away. By now, having a tentacle cock in one hole, front or back, didn’t seem to faze her in the slightest. I grabbed the tentacle cock moving vigorously inside her front entrance with my hand.
"Flauros, what are you doing that Levis isn’t even moaning?"
Grrrumble.
"Flauros says it’s trying its best."
"Trying isn’t good enough. It’s not just about tormenting her with tentacles. Your job is to drive her so deep into climax that she can’t live without sex. Lucifer, what have you been doing?"
"Uh, well...."
Lucifer fidgeted and held up the various training tools in her hands.
"I-it ended up like this...."
"Good lord. Did she crush them?"
"...Yes. After laying the second egg, her strength suddenly surged."
Lucifer waved a slime-based dildo that appeared to have been crushed by hand. It had been squeezed so tightly that shoving it inside would probably feel like scraping the walls with jagged nails.
"Impressive, Levis. Did you wreck them with the front or the back?"
"...."
Levis stayed silent. I inserted two fingers into Levis’s empty hole.
Crunch!
"Whoa, I don’t think I can pull them out. Impressive, Levis. You fell fast, but you’ve already shored up your defenses in the meantime?"
"Ha, hmph! Go ahead, shove it in! You bastard... once I get my full strength back, you’re dead!!"
"Then should I cut your tendons? I’ve heard dragons have a magic organ called the Dragon Heart. Should I rip that out?"
Levis froze. She sensed the sincerity behind my offhand remark.
’As if I’d leave a prisoner who’s constantly looking for a chance to escape unattended.’
Does Levis even know? That I’m reading every single thought in her head through the system.
"I’ll cut your tendons, cut your wings, cut your tail, and break your horns. While I’m at it, I’ll amputate your limbs too. Leave just enough for Flauros to hold onto with its tentacles, and all we need is to finish inside you. How does that sound?"
"...."
Levis averted her gaze. She talked big, but I could tell instinctively, even without the system’s help.
"I’ve caught Worwolves and boiled them for stew, killed cockatrices and deep-fried them. What about you, I wonder, Levis? Aren’t you curious?"
I stroked Levis’s limp wings.
"If I grilled a dragon’s wings... what would they taste like?"
"Eek...!"
Fear.
Levis was deeply terrified of having her dragon body damaged.
