Chapter 94: 94:The One Eyed Wolf
After coming from a Tier 0 Zone, they couldn’t enter a Tier 1 Zone for three months. No one truly knew why such a restriction existed.
Some said it was meant to protect the mental health of young Awakeners after experiencing their first zone.
Others claimed it was due to the effects that zone travel had on the body and soul.
Until Tier 3, one could only travel through the soul.
But after reaching Tier 3, Awakeners could directly teleport into zones with their physical bodies.
During those few days of pondering, Reigns managed to uncover a few secrets about the original Reigns.
The first was his relationship with his family.
His parents were a bit possessive.
Actually, they might have been far too possessive.
Reigns discovered that the original owner of this body had been monitored almost all the time, served by servants, and taught by highly qualified instructors from a young age.
But the problem was that Reigns didn’t remember much of it.
Maybe the memories had been lost after he took over the body.
The ones that remained were extremely vague.
As far as his memories went, he could only clearly remember the last few months.
Anything beyond that felt covered in thick mist.
Not that it was anything particularly alarming.
After all, if someone asked a teenager what they had been doing at the age of ten, most of those memories would also be vague.
Instead of trying to recall things endlessly, Reigns began searching for information and asked questions regarding the original Reigns.
Only then did he learn about the huge fight.
Once the original Reigns reached fifteen years old, he outright demanded to move away from all the family’s riches and luxury and live independently.
It led to a goddamned brutal argument between him and his parents.
The argument became so serious that Reigns eventually threatened them with doing something reckless to himself.
In the end, his parents compromised.
They bought this apartment for him.
Actually, they had wanted one with better security and better facilities.
But Reigns specifically wanted this apartment because it was close to the Academy.
So, all in all, his current suffering was largely because of the original Reigns.
Thankfully, his parents still forcefully sent money every month.
The original Reigns, however, ignored it and survived on odd jobs instead.
Damn!
The hell!
This guy was literally sleeping on a pile of riches but didn’t give a shit.
People were absolutely correct.
While some died of thirst, others literally drowned in it.
Now he was stuck in an odd situation.
Would his parents notice something was wrong if he suddenly asked to move back into a mansion?
Nyx’s presence was already like a sword hanging over his head. His parents’ presence might make things even worse.
What if they found out that he wasn’t the real one?
The thought was terrifying.
Reigns felt that whatever was going on now was perfectly fine.
Staying away from his parents for now was probably the safest choice.
After making up his mind, he finally joined the Federation with great fanfare.
_____
Inside a large corridor surrounded by glass walls, a huge group of people had gathered together while enjoying a hearty meal prepared for the newly recruited cadets.
Laughter and conversations echoed throughout the hall.
At the sides of the corridor, men in black suits stood guard, maintaining security.
However, their expressions gradually became more and more envious as they listened to the conversations taking place nearby.
Their expressions darkened even further when they heard the group talking.
"I think something is weird."
"What is weird?"
"I don’t remember the Federation throwing a party for joining cadets last year."
"Who knows? Maybe they just weren’t up to par."
"Yes. You see, we are a different breed from them."
The young man proudly puffed out his chest.
"We are literally different."
"More talented."
"More powerful."
"And we have more potential than those old people."
Thick veins bulged on the foreheads of several black-suited guards standing near the walls.
If not for the regulations and cameras present everywhere, their gazes alone might have killed a few people.
We aren’t up to par?
You are a different breed?
More talented?
Buddy, at least look at your potential and level before saying that.
Several guards silently gritted their teeth.
"Hey, please bring me a can of coke."
One of the recruits casually waved toward a nearby guard.
"I am not used to having my food without it."
The guard’s face immediately twitched.
"Damn! I will beat the shit out of him."
He was about to move forward when several others immediately grabbed him.
A blond-haired man standing nearby stopped him.
"Let them be."
"They are just conceited because of the party."
"Once the pressure starts building up, they will be put in their place."
Seeing no response, the boy shouted again.
"Hey! Can’t you hear me, blondie?"
"Go and bring me a chilled glass of coke.’’
The blond man’s expression immediately darkened.
"Sir, I have had enough. I am gonna kill that guy."
"Ahh! Stop it, Captain! Stop!"
Several guards immediately grabbed him again.
Meanwhile, somewhere in a corner of the hall, Reigns looked at the group of buffoons with a horrified expression.
"For God’s sake, are you kidding me?"
"From where the hell did they pick up such a bunch of donkeys?"
"Pffft!"
Reigns turned around and saw Linda desperately trying to suppress her laughter.
"Before laughing, remember that it was you people who recruited them."
Linda’s smile instantly cracked after hearing that jab.
"What can we do?"
She spread her hands helplessly.
"All the good ones were taken away by the clans, while we are left with these."
Reigns tilted his head.
"But why?"
"Can’t you just increase the benefits?"
"We can’t!"
Linda immediately shook her head.
"Unlike clans that live for themselves, the Federation is a structured organization."
"We have to spend money on countless other things."
"The Federation doesn’t recruit based on your potential. Rather, your performance after joining is what matters."
She paused before continuing.
"Unlike the clans, who lure everyone in with high promises."
A cheeky smile slowly appeared on her face.
"However, you can probably guess what happens afterward."
Reigns immediately understood.
Once someone entered a clan and failed to perform well, their treatment would probably become much worse than the promises they were initially given.
While Linda continued briefing him about various aspects regarding the Federation, a powerful pressure suddenly descended upon everyone present.
The atmosphere instantly changed.
Even the noisy recruits subconsciously straightened their backs.
CLAP!
A single clap echoed throughout the corridor.
Yet that one sound somehow silenced everything.
Everyone immediately turned toward the source of the noise.
At the center of the hall stood a man with an eyepatch covering one scarred eye. His posture was straight and his gaze was sharp.
His presence alone dominated the entire corridor.
The pressure filling the room was clearly coming from him.
Linda immediately smiled upon seeing him.
"He is here..."
A trace of admiration appeared in her eyes.
"The One-Eyed Wolf."
