Chapter 82: 82:Boss Battle
Pieces of bark and shattered wood scattered everywhere as Number One rolled across the stone floor before barely managing to stop itself against a pile of broken rubble.
Reigns’ expression tightened at the sight.
This fight was becoming harder and harder with every passing second.
Thankfully, the people behind them were still safe and sound.
Many of the survivors remained unconscious after crying out under the effects of the mind hex earlier. Some Awakened still twitched weakly from the lingering pain, while others lay completely motionless from exhaustion.
But not everyone survived.
While fighting, Reigns had noticed several bodies scattered nearby.
Some had been cleanly sliced apart by the Undead Warrior’s previous attacks.
Blood stained the floor around them, and pieces of flesh and broken armor lay scattered across the ruined battlefield.
The sight made Reigns’ chest feel heavier.
But there was no time to stop.
The Undead Warrior suddenly raised its greatsword again, and Reigns immediately realized what it intended to do.
"Number One! Stop him!"
The Dryad roared and charged forward despite its heavily damaged body.
At the same time, Reigns sprinted from the other side with all the strength he had left.
Their objective was simple.
They couldn’t allow the Undead Warrior to drive its greatsword into the ground again.
The moment it did that, another devastating attack would follow, and everyone behind them would be in danger again.
The Undead Warrior forcefully shoved Number One aside with one arm while continuing to lower its sword toward the ground.
Reigns immediately leapt forward and kicked off a broken shield lying nearby, propelling himself faster.
A moment later, he crashed directly into the Undead Warrior’s arm before the sword could reach the ground.
BANG!
The impact disrupted the movement slightly.
But the very next second, the Undead Warrior drove its elbow directly into Reigns’ stomach with monstrous force.
"COUGH!"
Reigns spat saliva and nearly blacked out from the pain before being hurled across the battlefield.
His body rolled across the rough stone floor several times before finally coming to a stop near the corpse of an undead knight.
Breathing heavily and struggling to steady himself, Reigns quickly grabbed the fallen knight’s sword.
Then he noticed the broken pieces of armor scattered nearby.
Without wasting time, he roughly strapped part of the damaged armor onto his body for protection even though most of it barely fit him and the jagged and sharp metal edges dug painfully into his skin.
The heavy armor made his movements slower, but he had no other option.
The Undead Warrior was simply too dangerous.
Reigns tightened his grip on the sword and rushed forward again.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Sparks exploded repeatedly as Reigns desperately clashed against the massive greatsword. Every impact made his arms tremble painfully and sent numbing vibrations through his entire body.
The difference in strength between them was simply overwhelming.
Several times, the Undead Warrior nearly forced him to his knees through pure power alone, while cracks slowly spread across the stolen sword in Reigns’ hands.
Meanwhile, Number One continuously attacked from the side, desperately trying to stop the creature whenever it tried to bring its sword crashing down.
The battlefield descended into complete chaos.
Reigns rolled repeatedly across the ground to avoid deadly swings, while Number One used its damaged body to block attacks head-on, even as pieces of wood continued breaking from its frame.
At one point, the Undead Warrior kicked Number One directly through a broken pillar before immediately turning toward Reigns.
SWOOOSH!
The massive greatsword descended upon him with terrifying force.
Reigns barely managed to raise the undead knight’s sword in time.
CLAAANG!
The impact instantly widened the already present cracks on the sword as the overwhelming force pushed Reigns into the ground and caused blood to trail from the corner of his mouth.
His arms shook violently under the pressure while his knees sank deeper into the shattered floor beneath him.
The Undead Warrior slowly pushed harder.
The cracked sword started bending beneath the monstrous weight pressing down on it.
Reigns gritted his teeth and desperately tried to resist as the muscles in his arms screamed in agony from the strain.
Then, suddenly, Number One charged from behind and wrapped both its wooden arms tightly around the Undead Warrior.
The creature staggered slightly from the sudden interruption, but—
That brief opening allowed Reigns to escape.
He immediately rolled away, gasping heavily for air as sweat mixed with blood across his face. His exhausted body screamed in pain from every slightest movement.
Yet despite everything...
He still forced himself back to his feet again.
Exhausted, Reigns was conserving whatever mana he still had left. He could no longer use any special moves, and every remaining bit of mana now felt precious. His exhausted body already felt like it was reaching its limit from the relentless battle and strain.
He needed an opening.
The Undead Warrior was like a walking fortress. Its heavy armor refused to let anything pass through, no matter how hard he attacked. And the greatsword itself also looked extremely unique and unnatural. Every clash against it made Reigns feel like he was striking an immovable wall forged from something beyond ordinary metal.
God knew what kind of material it was truly made of.
This was insane.
To make matters worse, Reigns couldn’t summon more creatures. Once they died, they required mana to be summoned again, and his current reserves were already dangerously low after everything that had happened since the battle began.
If only he had known this earlier, he would have saved some stat points for mana instead of assuming his current reserves would be enough to carry him through the fight.
He had believed his mana reserves would be enough before entering this place, but apparently, they weren’t.
Reigns breathed heavily and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. Sweat continued dripping down his face as he stared at the monster before him in frustration. Every time he moved, pain coursed through his already sore muscles.
At that moment, the Undead Warrior suddenly grabbed the thick vines wrapped around its body and violently tore them apart with brute force. The vines snapped apart and scattered across the battlefield.
The next second, it slammed its armored head directly into Number One.
BANG!
The Dryad staggered backward violently as cracks spread across its wooden face and chest while pieces of bark broke off and fell onto the ground. Its already unstable movements became even slower and weaker, as though its body would collapse at any second now.
Seizing that brief opportunity, Reigns quickly summoned a Healing Sprout and ordered it to do its magic.
