Chapter 1940: Chapter 1940: Mirror World (17)

Cheng Mu was eventually driven away by Chuzheng’s temper.

Chuzheng looked at the mirror that had returned to normal and sighed slightly. The Good Person Card was really too fragile.

Chuzheng shifted her gaze to her phone.

The phone contained Yu Shi’s information, but since Chuzheng couldn’t find anything before, she conveniently installed a micro camera.

Chuzheng rewatched the recent surveillance footage and finally stared thoughtfully at the phone in Yu Shi’s hand.

It seemed that Yu Shi’s connection with the other side was through this phone...

Chuzheng pondered for a while, clasped her hands together, and came up with a plan.

"Xiao Chu, where are you going so late at night?" Father Yuk quickly called out when he saw Chuzheng getting ready to leave.

"Just some business."

"It’s so late... I’ll go with you." Father Yuk worried about Chuzheng going out alone at night.

More importantly, he and his wife were starting to suspect that there might be something mentally off with Chuzheng...

Though she appeared quite normal, that very normalcy made them feel even more uneasy.

"No need." Chuzheng refused Father Yuk: "I’ll be back soon."

"Hey, no... wait for me!"

Fearing Father Yuk would catch up, Chuzheng ran quickly, leaving the courtyard and disappearing swiftly into the labyrinth of alleys, leaving Father Yuk behind.

Chuzheng indeed didn’t stay out long, returning in about half an hour—only to be lectured by both Father Yuk and Mother Yuk for half an hour.

Life is too hard.

-

Yu Shi was anxiously waiting for news about herself in 2019, feeling restless and not going to the company.

The way she was now, going to the company would only invite pointing fingers, so it was better to wait at home until things were resolved.

Then she could continue to be envied and admired by others.

Lost in thought, Yu Shi didn’t notice she had deviated from her path. Once she realized it and was about to turn back, several ruffians suddenly appeared, blocking her way.

These people looked like trouble at first glance, making Yu Shi’s heart tighten.

"What do you want?"

One of the ruffians whistled, "Hey pretty lady, can you spare some money?"

Hearing they only wanted money, Yu Shi breathed a sigh of relief.

Yu Shi was no fool; seeing the number of people, she immediately took out the cash from her bag, "It’s all yours."

The ruffian took the money and counted it, then his eyes fell on the phone tightly held by Yu Shi: "Hand over the phone too."

Yu Shi’s pupils contracted slightly, gripping the phone tighter: "This phone is worthless!"

Yu Shi’s phone was indeed not valuable—it was an old model and looked quite worn.

"Hand it over!" The ruffian shouted sternly.

Startled by the ruffian’s fierce demeanor, Yu Shi’s voice trembled: "I have money online; I can transfer it to you, and you can buy a new phone. This one really isn’t worth much."

The ruffian gave a signal to someone next to him, and immediately, someone moved forward to grab Yu Shi’s phone.

"This phone really isn’t worth much." Yu Shi retreated, "It only contains my work data and is of no use to you!"

The other side didn’t bother to respond, grabbing Yu Shi by the shoulders and forcefully snatching the phone.

Yu Shi refused to hand over the phone, clutching it to her chest while calling for help loudly: "Help... help... mmph..."

Yu Shi’s eyes widened as she was pressed against the wall, her mouth covered by a hand.

The phone was slowly pried from her grasp.

No...

No way!

It was her lifeline, it couldn’t be taken away!

Out of nowhere, Yu Shi found the strength to forcefully bump into the person beside her, taking advantage of their distraction to bite the hand covering her mouth.

"Ah!"

"Help!! Help!!"

Freed, Yu Shi immediately shouted for help.

Though the area was remote, there were people living nearby; surely, someone would come if she cried out.

But despite Yu Shi’s loud cries, not a single person appeared.

"Damn it!" one of the ruffians cursed, then slapped Yu Shi across the face.

Yu Shi staggered, falling to the ground, yet she still clung tightly to the phone, refusing to let go.

"Give it to me already!"

The phone was forcibly taken away, with Yu Shi grabbing at the person’s pants: "No... give it back, give me back my phone!"

The ruffian sneered a few times, kicked Yu Shi, and left with his companions, arms around each other’s shoulders.

Yu Shi wanted to chase after them but found that at some point, she had sprained her ankle and could barely stand.

She could only lay there in embarrassment, shouting at their fading backs: "Don’t go, give me back my phone. I’ll give you money!! I have money, give me back my phone!!"

-

Chuzheng leaned on the windowsill, watching as Yu Shi was brought back, holding what was unmistakably Yu Shi’s phone.

Yu Shi reported it to the police, but the group of ruffians had fled so quickly that there wasn’t a trace of them now, making it impossible to catch them.

Yu Shi, emotionally charged, insisted they must be caught and demanded her phone back.

The officers handling the case thought Yu Shi’s phone must be encrusted with diamonds due to her anxiety, but they still promised to resolve the case swiftly and retrieve her belongings.

Chuzheng closed the window and returned to her room.

She casually tossed the phone into a drawer.

The next day, Yu Shi left the house hastily, and Chuzheng guessed she was probably going to ask about the investigation.

By midday, Yu Shi returned with a dark expression, clearly without any news.

After observing for two days, Chuzheng could almost confirm that Yu Shi could only contact the past with that phone.

This made Yu Shi emotionally unstable and prone to anger; even Father Yuk didn’t dare speak loudly around her.

The news from the lawyers further plunged Yu Shi’s mood into the depths.

Online gossip had died down, as several days had passed and the netizens had been distracted by entertainment industry scandals.

Without new evidence, Yu Shi was bound to lose the case, and the lawyer suggested negotiating a settlement outside of court.

Yu Shi refused, and ultimately could only wait stiffly for the trial.

She ran daily to related offices, asking if they had found her phone, only to be repeatedly disappointed.

-

On the day of the trial, Chuzheng did not attend; she sent Dai Mi in her place. Given that Chuzheng’s evidence was complete, there was no suspense in winning.

Yu Shi not only had to publicly apologize and admit to plagiarism, but also pay compensation.

Yu Shi nearly fainted with rage.

Yet she had no choice but to issue a public apology letter.

Netizens, who had almost forgotten about the incident, were taken aback by this sudden apology letter.

[So it really was Yu Shi who plagiarized? This is too damn thrilling, like the thief crying ’stop thief!’]

[How shameless can plagiarism get? This is the first time I’ve seen such a bold move.]

[No way... she was one of my favorite designers, and she’s a plagiarist too!]

[Could it be Yuk Chuzheng is intimidating Yu Shi with her company’s influence? She also had confirmed plagiarisms before!]

[Plagiarism...]

Some believed it, while others didn’t, and some people brought up the designs again, demanding Yu Shi explain why her style was so varied and similar to others.

Yu Shi was too ashamed to show her face.

Now, the company wanted to terminate her contract, and she hadn’t slept well for several days, plagued by nightmares when she did.
