Chapter 1829: Chapter 1829: Rising Star (31)

Chuzheng basically played herself in the drama, and it won her a bunch of casual passerby fans.

Gu Yu’s fans... hard to describe. Chuzheng didn’t want to see them at all.

As the drama blew up, Chuzheng had more and more events to attend, and she’d hardly been back to the villa.

"Sir, you haven’t worked out yet today..."

The Butler came in from outside. Gu Yu immediately flipped the tablet face down on the table, but he’d forgotten to turn the sound off. He fumbled to mute it.

Butler: "..."

I heard everything. You’re watching Miss Qin’s drama.

The Butler looked at Gu Yu with a knowing smile. Gu Yu’s expression stiffened. He powered the tablet off and said coldly, "Got it..."

"Then you should hurry and exercise, otherwise Old Madam Gu will call again in a bit to check up on you." The Butler reminded Gu Yu that Old Madam Gu checked on him every day.

"Mm."

After the Butler left, Gu Yu slapped the tablet, and still not satisfied, he tossed it into a drawer.

Gu Yu changed clothes and went downstairs.

The villa door was pushed open. A suitcase rolled across the floor with a soft sound as someone walked in against the light.

Gu Yu narrowed his eyes. She was back.

He had just started down when he heard someone outside talking: "Sis, why can’t I?"

Sis?

She goes out once and comes back having abducted a kid?

Chuzheng kicked the suitcase inside with her foot and held the door, not letting the person outside in. "Ask your parents."

"Sis, let me in..."

"In for what? Go home."

"Sis..." Qin Chuzhao squeezed half his body in and immediately saw Gu Yu standing on the stairs. He waved enthusiastically. "Brother-in-law, brother-in-law..."

Gu Yu: "..."

Oh, that kid from the Qin Family.

Since he’d already called him brother-in-law, Gu Yu had no choice but to speak. "What are you two doing?"

Chuzheng glanced at Gu Yu, then let go of the door. Qin Chuzhao instantly shoved past her and came in. "Hi, brother-in-law."

Gu Yu: "..."

Qin Chuzhao smiled sweetly. "Sorry to bother you, brother-in-law."

Gu Yu nodded and held the railing as he came down the stairs. "Come in and sit first."

"You let him in, so you deal with him." Chuzheng hauled her suitcase upstairs, dumping Qin Chuzhao on Gu Yu.

"?" Deal with what exactly?

Chuzheng had run into Qin Chuzhao at the airport—or rather, Qin Chuzhao had specifically camped out there waiting for her.

The reason was simple: he wanted to get into showbiz.

Back when the original host joined the industry, the Qin couple had practically beaten her to death. Now their precious baby wanted to go into showbiz—wouldn’t they skin her alive?

She couldn’t shoulder that kind of responsibility.

She hadn’t even planned to let Qin Chuzhao in. Gu Yu insisted on letting him in? Fine. She wasn’t taking this fall anyway.

After hearing Qin Chuzhao’s plan, Gu Yu kind of regretted it too.

Just look at Qin Chuzheng’s situation in the industry and you’d know the Qin Family’s attitude. Qin Chuzhao, as the Qin heir, running off to mix in showbiz—wouldn’t the Qin Family explode?

Why had he let him in!

Was it still possible to throw him out now?

"Brother-in-law, talk to my sis for me." Qin Chuzhao called him brother-in-law so smoothly, like he’d been doing it for years.

Gu "Brother-in-law" Yu: "Do your parents know?"

Qin Chuzhao shook his head.

"You should discuss it with your parents first. This path isn’t easy. It’s not as glamorous as it looks."

Qin Chuzhao was still young. Decisions made on impulse might be abandoned in a few days.

"I’ve thought about it seriously..." Qin Chuzhao suddenly straightened up. "Mom and Dad never support Sis. It’s clearly just a matter of one sentence for them, but they won’t help her. But it’s different if I enter showbiz. They won’t sit back and watch. That way I can help Sis..."

Gu Yu froze. "You’re doing this for her?"

Qin Chuzhao knew his parents were biased, but he couldn’t change it.

He didn’t want his sister to hate him.

Gu Yu leaned back against the sofa slightly. "She won’t be wronged in the Gu Family. You don’t need to do this."

Qin Chuzhao’s eyes lit up. "Brother-in-law will help Sis?"

"...Mm." Since you’ve already been calling me brother-in-law, how could he not help?

-

Chuzheng came downstairs in a fresh change of clothes and didn’t see Qin Chuzhao. "Where is he?"

"Gone."

"What did you say to him?"

"Nothing much."

"Then why would he leave?" That cheap little brother of hers was hard to shake. He’d chased her from the airport all the way here. He was that easy to send off?

Gu Yu gave a cold laugh. "I threw him out."

Chuzheng: "..." Why’s your temper so bad? Who provoked you!! Lucky my temper’s good these days, or I’d have pinned you down and beaten you already!

Chuzheng looked at the Butler next to them. The Butler shook his head. It wasn’t that Chuzheng was afraid Gu Yu would throw out Qin Chuzhao; she was afraid something might happen to him and the two Qin parents would come knocking to make trouble.

Too lazy to bother with the bratty Gu Yu, Chuzheng ate something and headed upstairs.

Gu Yu sat in the living room. The Butler sighed. "Sir, you clearly miss Miss Qin a lot. Why do you put on a cold face as soon as she comes back?"

"Who misses her?" Gu Yu frowned. "Don’t talk nonsense."

"I miss her, I miss her." The Butler’s survival instincts were excellent.

"Who said you could miss her!"

"..."

The Butler chose to drop dead on the spot.

Gu Yu snorted and stomped upstairs, shutting himself into his room.

He paced back and forth a few times, then grabbed a few files from the desk and went to knock on Chuzheng’s door.

"What is it?"

"Here are a few scripts. Pick one." Gu Yu handed her the files. "If there’s a role you want, you can tell me. I’ll get it for you."

Chuzheng raised a brow. "You’re giving me a backdoor?"

"So are you taking it or not?" Gu Yu had already decided—if she said no, he’d slap the files right in her face.

"Of course I am." Chuzheng didn’t give him the chance, taking the files and flipping through them. "Didn’t you stop working? How come you still have scripts?"

"There’s no shortage of people wanting to hire me." Gu Yu snorted. "A few scripts are nothing." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Chuzheng: "..."

The agent on the other side of the city: "..." Put your hand on your heart and say that again!

-

Chuzheng carefully read through the scripts Gu Yu gave her. Just from the writing alone, they were absolutely worth watching.

Scripts this good should only be accessible to someone of Gu Yu’s level.

Chuzheng picked one of the roles. After Gu Yu saw it, he frowned deeply. "This role is a villain. There are other roles that suit you. Why pick this one?"

In all the scripts Gu Yu gave her, there were roles suitable for Chuzheng. The one with the most screen time was the female lead; there were also second and third female leads.

And she’d gone and picked a villain. Was this how she repaid him for going to all this trouble to get so many scripts?

Gu Yu felt like he’d handed her a pile of pearls and jade, and she’d fallen in love with the plate they came in.

"I like this role." Chuzheng said.

Gu Yu wanted to say more, but then he realized that would make him sound like he cared too much.

He’d already done everything he could. If she insisted on choosing this role, he couldn’t be blamed.

"Whatever you want."

Gu Yu huffed upstairs and called his agent.

"Reserve a role for me."

The agent was surprised. "You’ve recovered? You’re taking a project?"

"It’s not for me."

"Huh?"
