Chapter 5: first rudimentary tool
He gathered a small pile of dry leaves and twigs and threw them on the hot charcoals before blowing them. It took him seconds to have the fire burning.
"No milk..."
"No water..."
Leo accessed his options for breakfast, which ended up with him warming up the previous nights leftovers, that were accompanied by two bananas.
"I think that dream has decided for me..."
Leo said as he readied himself.
"System,I opt for the lord’s path..."
His voice was calm,to him,if he previously managed to lead a city,it would be no different now.
System Alert: Are you sure ...?
"Now you are asking questions..."
Leo sneered at the system.
"Yes..."
System Alert: You have chosen the lord’s path.

Automatic clearing of land
A thousand experience points
One common chest
A hundred copper coins
"A thousand experience points..."
Leo whistled as this was the first time that he had any quest awarding him so many experience points.
"More copper coins..."
Leo read through the quest once more.
"An automatic clearing of land..."
He pondered on this for a moment.
"What a good territory needs is not just a proper location, but easy access to water, some fertile lands and close proximity to resources..."
"The stream is around half a kilometer from here, and I do not think the automatic clearing will cover that much land..."
Leo was lost in thoughts as he tried to find a way to use the system to his advantage.
"And also this region for some reason has more trees and less of underground vegetation, but the region around the stream seems more fertile..."
This region was where he harvested the fruits, most of the berries and the sweet potatoes. As for the rest,he gathered them around the clearing.
"The clearing in itself seems less fertile, but a good place to set up the houses as there is no canopy ..."
"And there are those large boulders at the edge..."
Leo spent his time going through his available options.
An hour later,he had come up with what he thought to be the best plan. The plan had several steps and it would take him time to complete each step.
The first step was based on the fact that he did not know of how big the system’s automatic clearing was,so he needed to bring the stream closer to the clearing.
This would have him dig a trench, about a hundred metres long from the stream to the clearing,a task that would take him at most a day, factoring in his lack of appropriate tools.
Step two included digging up a small pool at the clearing western edge, where the trench would lead to.
The pool would act as a reservoir. And to ensure that it could retain water,he had to fortify it,a process that would take days,as he had to find suitable materials that he could make some old fashion cement with.
The third step, this one was based on his assumption, that the system’s automatic clearing of land would concert the resources, materials and stuff on the cleared land into their refined nature. And so he opted to move the boulders in the clearing to the west side.
The west side was also the most fertile side with more edible tubers, vegetables, fruits and berries.
There were also a couple of beehives that he had spotted.
If his assumption was right, very soon,he would be in possession of the bees greatest treasure.
Leo could think of a hundred ways to utilize both the honey and the wax
The honey could be used as a sweetener, antibiotic or ingredient, while he could make candles from the wax,or hair gel,he could also use it as a mild binder.
But if his assumption was wrong,he would only have wasted a couple days if work.
As for the distance,he opted to pick the center of his territory to be forty metres from the clearings western edge.
This way,if the system automatic land clearing were to cover less than a hundred metres radius, the boulders at the edge of the clearing would be included,as well as a big portion of the western fertile lands.
"Now I need tools..."
Leo looked around, only for him to be disappointed.
He had everything but lacked what he needed the most.
He needed a hoe for the trench, and a blade for clearing the bushes, thickets and cutting down trees on his intended path.
He needed levers to aid him in rolling the boulders.
He was also in need of a knife and a small cart to ferry his harvests as his inventory was limited, and seeing that he was about to establish a territory,he had to prepare enough food to feed his subordinates for a couple of days,as they settle in.
"The easiest to make are stone tools..."
To Leo, having no knowledge on smithing or the needed equipment,he opted for the most rudimentary of tools.
With the fire still burning,he found a stone that was half a foot long.
"I can use the hardened iron ore to chip away at the stone to the shape of a knife...."
Leo got down to making his first rudimentary tool.
"Cling...!"
"Cling...!"
"Cling...!"
He used an iron ore, that was twice the size of his palm to chip away on the half a foot long stone.
More than two hours later, the half a foot long stone had been shaped into a knife’s blade, one side thicker that the other, with the handle smaller and cylindrical.
