Chapter 464: Chapter 238: The First Day of the Journey
Generally speaking, even though it’s already mid-March, this is not the typical time to enter Tibet. After all, this time period is still quite cold in the plateau regions, as it’s the transition between winter and spring, and high-altitude areas may even have snow... although the lower altitude valleys have begun to warm up.
Therefore, the traffic on the road wasn’t as heavy as imagined.
The car arrived at the 318 campsite, a place that every 318 road trip enthusiast must check in at. There’s a 318 culture experience center here and a public campsite with very comprehensive basic facilities.
When Li Younan’s car pulled in, there were already some self-driving cars parked there. Of course, at a glance, most of the 318 road trip vehicles were family cars, with SUVs being the majority.
There were several locally-made tank SUVs, with signs on them saying "Must drive 318 in this life."
And the most unexpected sight was a Wuling Hongguang minivan in the campsite.
Apart from these family cars, there were only two RVs, both modified from Ford chassis, naturally qualified to be on the road.
When Li Younan drove his RV, the Rolls-Royce among RVs, into the campsite, it unsurprisingly attracted a lot of attention.
When Li Younan parked, Liu Li, who had slept through the latter half of the journey, just woke up. She stretched lazily: "Have we arrived?"
Li Younan nodded: "We’re here."
He glanced at the time; it wasn’t too late, around 4:00 in the afternoon, but since it’s mid-March, the day is generally shorter, leaving only two to three hours before it gets dark.
Liu Li crawled into the living area because she felt some people approaching the driver’s cabin and felt a bit uneasy.
After a moment of hesitation, she whispered to Li Younan: "Um, if they want to tour the RV, can we say no?"
After saying that, she lowered her head somewhat embarrassedly, as she knew very well that, while traveling, people just want a look around, and such a request isn’t really too much.
If it weren’t for her, Li Younan would probably have generously shown people around, especially since he was an influencer likely to encounter fans along the way.
Li Younan chuckled: "Alright, whenever you think it’s okay, then we can let them in."
Receiving confirmation from Li Younan, JK Long apologized: "Sorry, I... I brought trouble to you."
Li Younan paused for a moment and lightly tapped her head.
This sudden action left Liu Li momentarily stunned, as only her brother had ever done that to her.
Then, she heard Li Younan leisurely say: "Don’t talk about trouble or not."
Li Younan walked to the door, ready to go out, and turned back with a smile: "We’re in this together... our shared attitude is the attitude to the outside."
After saying that, Li Younan opened the door and got out, closing it behind him.
Liu Li blinked and murmured: "Shared attitude..."
She pondered over this phrase, her eyes glistening, unsure of what she was thinking.
Sure enough, several would-be travelers were already standing beside his vehicle, looking and chatting.
He casually chatted with them; everyone was quite friendly. Though some did express a desire to see the van, Li Younan straightforwardly said: "Sorry, it’s inconvenient at the moment."
Everyone seemed to understand this.
When it comes to refusal, be straightforward.
Naturally, some fans recognized Li Younan, notably the young couple driving the Wuling van.
On this kind of travel route, there is a higher probability of meeting fans of Li Younan due to shared interests, and the chance of encountering fans increases more as one moves further toward Tibet.
The couple themselves were quite surprising; their van was self-converted into a camper, and they were also filming videos, gaining some online fame with tens of thousands of followers.
Although their scale isn’t comparable to Li Younan’s, taking some ad deals is enough to cover their travel expenses.
The couple eagerly invited Li Younan to check out their camper.
The front driving and passenger seats were intact, but starting from the back, all the seats were removed, and it was insulated.
The space in the van was limited. Aside from a bed and some cabinet storage, there wasn’t room for much else, but it was fairly complete.
A water tank with several dozen liters was installed, and the young man had modified a sink, along with a foldable kitchen, cutting board, and workspace. However, space remained tight and cramped.
The couple set up an awning and a small canopy under which to cook. While simple, it made for a very fun travel experience.
However, Li Younan noticed some shortcomings in their van conversion at a glance.
For instance, the somewhat rough carpentry, not so snug in the connections and fittings. At this early stage of the journey it’s not too much of an issue, but not far down the 318 road, a few bumpy sections might rattle the wooden fittings noisily.
Also, the insulation of the van may not be optimal, as only a layer of thermal cotton was used. In this weather, reaching 318 could be very cold.
Additionally, there’s no upgrade on the suspension or tires, which might affect performance.
Even though the infrastructure along 318 is now relatively good, better safe than sorry.
