Chapter 227: The Illegitimate Child (2)
Yang Bojun’s voice turned icy and cutting as he wove the tragic tale.
"You first spotted my mother Yang Mei across a smoky nightclub, her infectious laugh and curves catching your roving fancy. She was just an ordinary girl from the country, working there to survive while dreaming of better days. You showered her with sweet words and gifts in between passionate nights."
His lip curled derisively. "But it was only ever a casual fling for the young, carefree bachelor you were then. So when she came to you hopeful with my life blooming in her belly, you turned cruel and cold."
Eyes blazing, he went on, "You had a profitable marriage arranged to some socialite’s daughter. My very existence threatens to taint your sparkling future."
Grandpa Sun flinched under each word like blows.
"And so you threw money at Mother to get rid of the ’problem’. You washed your hands of her and me both then. She struggled alone to birth and raised me in poverty while you enjoyed a pampered life as an esteemed businessman, respected patriarch." Yang Bojun’s scalding words condemned the room to shamefaced silence.
"Now here I stand to ruin your perfect precious world. Don’t I deserve some long-overdue answers...Father?" he finished bitterly.
Yang Bojun’s piercing gaze bore into the elderly man. "Do you have any idea of the suffering you condemned her to? An unmarried mother shunned by all, shamed for keeping the child you deemed a mistake. She endured insults, poverty, wretched jobs just to raise me."
His voice shook with passion. "Yet your pampered life went on without conscience or care! You had your heir Sun Weilong, your treasured daughter Lixia later. A perfectly respectable family never suspecting its patriarch’s ugly secrets!"
Grandpa Sun seemed to wither under the relentless accusations, dumbstruck.
Sun Weilong slammed a fist on the table. "Enough! How do we even know you actually have Father’s blood? Surely a DNA test can easily unravel your claims one way or another."
Yang Bojun arched an eyebrow. "By all means, test away! I have no doubts science will confirm what I’ve always known in my bones." His lip curled slightly. "Unlike you privileged lot, I cannot afford fancy genetic analysis on a whim. But perhaps my newly discovered rich family can indulge my curiosity?"
His goading words shamed them all into silence again. This will not end until the murky truth is finally dragged into light...
Finally roused by Yang Bojun’s provocations, Grandpa Sun declared gruffly, "Fine then! We shall settle this with a DNA test now."
Sun Lixia gave her brother and Li Yanyan apprehensive looks. As the only daughter, she tentatively spoke up, "If...if the results show you are truly Dad’s son, of course you will be welcomed into our family."
Yang Bojun gave a thin smile. "Oh I have no doubts on my parentage, dear sister. But your gracious welcome is not needed - I fully intend to invite myself into my rightful place here regardless."
The younger generation - Li Chen, Li Xinjie and Sun Fang - shifted uncomfortably, unsure what to make of this aggressive newly discovered uncle.
Li Chen in particular scrutinized their confrontational guest. Something about Yang Bojun’s ambitious gleam and entitled air bothered him. This man clearly wanted more than just overdue family recognition...but to what ends? Li Chen resolved to stay wary and watchful of whatever ulterior motives were churning behind that inscrutable smile.
Grandpa Sun wasted no time arranging for an expedited home DNA test. After tersely speaking to his physicians, he announced "A doctor will arrive within the hour to take samples. My contacts will rush the analysis as the highest priority."
Yang Bojun gave an icy smile. "Must be convenient having such wealth and status to command instant answers. I’ve spent my whole life wondering if I had living kin."
Chastened, Sun Weilong gestured to the expansive living room. "Please, let us wait more comfortably for the doctor."
An uncomfortable silence enshrouded the lavish living room as the family awaited the impending DNA test.
The similarities between Sun patriarch and this mysterious Yang Bojun became more apparent in close quarters - the strong brow, piercing eyes, proud tilt of chin that Sun Weilong had also inherited.
Grandpa Sun mopped his sweating forehead frequently with a monogrammed handkerchief. Much as he blustered about this man being an obvious fraud, dread curdled his gut. Had his shameful secret dalliance really returned to upend his world so late in life?
Across the thick silence, Yang Bojun caught Grandpa Sun’s wavering gaze and gave an odd little half-smile. Like a predator sniffing weakness in cornered prey. Grandpa Sun hastily looked away, clasping his cane tightly for comfort.
Tension thickened the air as two white-coated doctors arrived precisely an hour later, cases in hand. "We can conduct the DNA test right away and have results within minutes, Master Sun," one assured the pacing patriarch.
Yang Bojun stepped forward, rolling up his sleeve. "Then let’s get on with it." After quick efficient samples were collected, the physicians retreated outside to their high-tech van.
The silence congealed once more until Sun Fang piped up, "What happens after Grandfather gets the results?"
"If this man really is Father’s son, he will have to be recognized and welcomed into the family," Sun Weilong said heavily. Grandpa Sun closed his eyes as if in pain.
But Yang Bojun had the opposite reaction, rubbing his hands. "A grand banquet is in order! I want the same fanfare and publicity as Sun Lixia’s return celebration. I intend to take my rightful place here."
Grandpa Sun snarled in response, "Don’t get ahead of yourself!"
Yang Bojun simply smiled and helped himself to the liquor cart. He seemed to feel perfectly at home already - a usurper poised confidently to inherit. The quiet ones eyed him with uneasy looks, clinging to fragile hopes the test would expose this aggressive intruder as a fraud...
Grandpa Sun sank into an armchair, his usual rigid posture slumped in defeat. How quickly had events spun beyond his control...
He couldn’t stop visions of the brash, effervescent young Yang Mei from flooding his senses. Flushed cheeks flashing an impish smile as they lost themselves in abandoned passion.
They were always meant to be an ephemeral affair - until she had appeared on his doorstep a short month later, revelation of their unborn child trembling on her lips.
And Grandpa Sun had turned to stone at the news, implacably committed to the untainted ascent his family expected of him. He had paid Yang Mei to ensure she discreetly terminated not just the pregnancy, but all attempts to contact him again.
For decades, he rarely let himself dwell on that youthful indiscretion. Married later to a woman he loved and who perfectly fit his status, he completely forgot about Yang Mei, after all the woman had disappeared and never showed herself in front of him.It seemed their brief entanglement would remain buried forever.
Yet now, here was Yang Bojun in the flesh - undeniable proof of Grandpa Sun’s callous dismissal resurfaced to shake his world at its foundations. As his family eyed him like terrified strangers, Grandpa Sun awaited the looming DNA results with long-delayed dread.
Yang Bojun’s eyes gleamed with anticipation as he observed the Sun family members, a self-assured smirk playing on his lips. In his mind, there was no doubt—Grandpa Sun was his father, and the DNA results about to be revealed would soon confirm it. With each passing moment, his confidence swelled, and he imagined the shock and disbelief that would ripple through the room when the truth was unveiled.
He couldn’t help but envision the scene unfolding before him, wishing he had a camera to capture every priceless reaction. The thought of replaying their stunned expressions filled him with a sense of twisted amusement, the prospect of witnessing their downfall bringing a twisted satisfaction to his scheming mind. As he waited for the revelation, Yang Bojun reveled in the thrill of anticipation, eager to see the Sun family’s world crumble at his feet.
