Chapter 141: Identical Twins

Li Chen, still in the hazy realm between sleep and wakefulness, stirred at the sound of the soft knock on his door. The voice that followed gently called his name, asking, "Li Chen, are you awake?"

Blinking away the remnants of sleep, he recognized the voice as Sun Lixia’s. With a yawn, Li Chen responded, "Yeah, I’m awake. What’s up?"

The door creaked open, revealing Sun Lixia standing there, her expression a mix of concern and determination. "Get ready," she said. "We’re going to the doctor for the DNA test. We need to know the truth."

Li Chen nodded, fully grasping the importance of the task at hand. "Sure, just give me a moment."

As Sun Lixia left him to prepare, Li Chen couldn’t shake the lingering thoughts from the previous night’s events. The revelation about Agent 17, the intense fight, and the shocking resemblance—all of it weighed heavily on his mind. He couldn’t help but wonder how this newfound connection might change the course of their battle against the organization.

With a deep breath, Li Chen got out of bed, ready to face the day and the challenges it held. The truth, whatever it may be, awaited him at the doctor’s office, and he steeled himself for the revelations that lay ahead.

The car ride continued in quiet anticipation, each passenger lost in their own thoughts. Li Chen’s phone broke the silence, signaling a message from Wu Feng. The contents brought a smile to Li Chen’s face, a reaction that didn’t go unnoticed by Sun Lixia.

"Good news?" she inquired gently, aware of Li Chen’s need for privacy.

Li Chen nodded, not divulging further details. "Yes, it’s something I’ve been waiting for, and it’s finally here."

Sun Lixia respected his privacy, understanding that certain matters were best left unspoken for the time being. They drove on, the atmosphere tinged with a mix of apprehension and hope, each occupant contemplating the implications of the DNA test and what it might reveal.

They all arrived at the hospital, a place that held a mixture of emotions for Sun Lixia. She led Li Chen to Dr. Bo Yifan’s office, a man she considered family. Li Yanyan followed closely behind, her mind undoubtedly occupied by the uncertainties of the upcoming DNA test.

As they approached the office, Sun Lixia introduced Dr. Bo to Li Chen. "Li Chen, this is Bo Yifan. He is a doctor here and someone I can call my nephew."

Li Chen nodded in acknowledgment, "Nice to meet you, Dr. Bo."

Dr. Bo offered a friendly smile. "You too, Li Chen. Your mother here has always been like a mother to me."

Li Chen raised an eyebrow, but before he could inquire further, Li Yanyan interjected, "You two can catch up later. Let’s get this over with."

Sun Lixia concurred, "Yes, let’s proceed." She turned to Dr. Bo and stated, "I want you to do a DNA test."

Dr. Bo, though perplexed by the sudden request, didn’t pry further. Sun Lixia handed him a sealed bag containing strands of hair they had obtained from Agent 17. "Take a sample from him and test it with this hair," she instructed.

Dr. Bo nodded and went on to collect the samples. As he worked, Sun Lixia added, "Take mine too."

Dr. Bo raised an eyebrow but proceeded without asking more questions. Once the samples were collected, he addressed Sun Lixia, "An hour is quite long. You can walk around, have something to eat while you are waiting."

Li Yanyan agreed, and Sun Lixia instructed, "Call me when you have the results."

"Okay," Dr. Bo responded, and they left the office to pass the time elsewhere in the hospital. The weight of anticipation lingered as they tried to distract themselves with idle conversation and small snacks from a hospital café.

Li Chen, feeling the need to occupy himself during the anxious wait for the DNA results, declared, "I have to go somewhere to get something. I’ll be back in less than an hour."

Li Yanyan, ever the protective figure, cautioned, "Be careful."

Li Chen reassured her, "Don’t worry about me, Aunt Yanyan."

Sun Lixia, taking a playful tone, chimed in, "He is a big boy who can take care of himself."

Li Yanyan joined in the banter, "Time really flies; just yesterday, he ate mud."

Li Chen’s face turned slightly red at the childhood memory. "Okay, okay... let me leave you two old women to discuss old women things. See you." With that, he swiftly exited the hospital and approached one of the waiting cars. He informed the driver that he would be back soon and sped off to his undisclosed destination.

Li Chen drove to Wu Feng’s herb shop, and upon arrival, Wu Feng greeted him, saying, "That was quick. I thought you were resting since it’s Sunday."

Li Chen replied, "I need these very quickly." Wu Feng handed Li Chen a bag filled with herbs, and Li Chen meticulously checked each one to ensure they were the correct ones. Satisfied, he expressed his gratitude, saying, "Thank you. How much?"

Wu Feng, with a wide smile, responded, "2 million yuan." Li Chen didn’t hesitate and promptly paid for the herbs. Wu Feng’s smile widened as he said, "Nice doing business with you, young man. Hope to see you soon." Li Chen left the shop, and as he walked toward his car, an unusual sensation enveloped him—an inexplicable negative energy. He turned around to see if there was someone behind him, but there was nothing. The energy felt similar to what he had sensed in Sun Gang. Perplexed, Li Chen shook off the feeling and proceeded to his car, driving away.

Li Chen arrived at the hospital to find Li Yanyan and Sun Lixia waiting for him outside the doctor’s office. They entered together, and Li Chen allowed the women to take a seat while he stood behind them. Dr. Bo walked in and noted, "I see you couldn’t wait." Sun Lixia urged, "Give us the results, Bo Yifan."

Dr. Bo asked, "Should I read them for you?" Li Yanyan affirmed, and Dr. Bo began opening the files. He stated, "These are the results with Li Chen’s sample," taking a deep breath before delivering the revelation. "According to these results, the two people tested here are identical twins."

The words hit them like a detonated bomb. Sun Lixia questioned, "Are you sure about this?" Dr. Bo reassured, "Yes, I am sure, Aunt Lixia. I tested the samples three times for confirmation." Although Li Chen had anticipated these results, the reality of having a twin brother still felt unbelievable.

Dr. Bo proceeded with Sun Lixia’s sample. He opened the second file and announced, "The person tested here is your child, Aunt Lixia." Li Yanyan, usually composed in difficult situations, couldn’t contain her joy. She stood up and exclaimed, "My brother has two boys... two boys!" Sun Lixia, her eyes welling with tears, couldn’t hold back the overwhelming emotions.

Dr. Bo handed the results to Sun Lixia, saying, "Here, you can read for yourself. You can also use a different place for confirmation, but I assure you the results will remain the same." Li Yanyan replied, "No need... thank you." Sun Lixia continued to sob, and Li Chen placed his hand on her shoulder, offering a soft pat, and said, "It’s okay, Mom." Sun Lixia lamented, "I am a bad mother. How could I have not known? I should have known when the kicks were abnormal. Here I was thinking you were an active child, there were two of you... two of you, and I didn’t know."

Li Yanyan consoled her, saying, "It’s okay, sister-in-law. You will have both your sons with you soon." The weight of the revelation lingered in the room, the profound truth reshaping the family dynamics.

The three left Dr. Bo’s office in silence. As they drove back home, Sun Lixia sat facing the window, watching the buildings change. She was happy, but at the same time, she was angry—angry at the organization and angry at herself. The complex emotions swirled within her, a mixture of joy and regret, relief and frustration.

Li Chen glanced at his mother, sensing the turmoil in her heart. He knew that this revelation had brought both joy and pain, the joy of discovering a long-lost brother and the pain of realizing the years lost to separation. He wished he could erase the bitterness and replace it with the happiness they deserved.

Li Yanyan, usually composed, also felt the weight of the moment. She knew that the road ahead wouldn’t be easy, especially considering the organization’s involvement. Yet, there was a sense of determination in her eyes, a resolve to reunite the family and confront the shadows of the past.

Sun Lixia turned to Li Yanyan, who had also gotten out of her car, and said, "I want my boy back home." Li Yanyan nodded in understanding. Sun Lixia’s eyes transformed, conveying determination and a fierce resolve. She then turned to Ren Zirui, who was standing close by, and commanded, "Get everyone ready. We are going to war."

The atmosphere in the villa shifted. Ren Zirui, recognizing the urgency in Sun Lixia’s voice, immediately went into action. He swiftly contacted the security team, briefed them on the situation, and prepared for the impending conflict with the organization.

Meanwhile, Li Yanyan took Sun Lixia’s hand and said, "We’ll bring him back, sister-in-law. Together." Sun Lixia nodded, her determination unwavering.

Li Chen, standing beside them, felt a mix of emotions. The revelation of having a twin brother was still sinking in, and now they were about to embark on a mission to rescue him. The shadows of the past were resurfacing, and Li Chen knew that the battles ahead would be both physical and emotional.

As the team prepared for the upcoming confrontation, the air in the villa was charged with anticipation and the unwavering spirit of a family ready to reclaim what was rightfully theirs.
