Chapter 26: Walking Corpse

"General Isaac, what do we do now?" Alex asked, his face was still calm but the turmoil in his heart refused to cease for a moment.

Everyone in the truck’s compartment still had their focus fixed onto the radar tracking the numerous black dots running behind.

With the truck’s speed they were far away from the encirclement already but the convoy still sped along the path to avoid any unwanted circumstances, the plan was originally to continue along the path but they had different opinions about Draxus who flew off the truck to fight off the attacker although most still supported the motion that they proceeded and leave him because since he was the reason they lost most of their defence systems in the first place.

"Why should we have to wait behind for him? He’s the reason we had to leave early in the first place, and now you are saying we should wait for him??"

Isaac remained silent, refusing to contribute to the argument in any way aside from keeping his eyes fixed on the radar, he didn’t look bothered but deep inside he was facing an internal turmoil.

’No matter what he’s the reason we managed to survive it at least, we should wait for him but...’

"Why should we blame everything on the young boy who’s just a teenager, he clearly stated his wish to avoid head on combat but you still fired, not you blame him for destroying the defensive systems. He’s just a teenager, we might have lost our world but why forsake a teenager in such times of crisis?" A man in suit said, his veins popping from his forehead but the trucks didn’t stop for even a second.

"Minister, I get what you mean, we all understand your intentions but unfortunately right now we have to focus on the goal at hand and get to Stormguard."

"The lives of over three hundred and a single teenager, I would rather choose the better option please." Another said, his hands twirling round a small pile held in his hand.

The minister watched them in disbelief then turned to Isaac "The final say belongs to the general, I don’t believe you would forsake an innocent teen in such perilous times!"

Isaac raised his head slowly, his eyes still maintaining the same neutral stance "We move forward, it will soon be dusk and if we don’t get to the safe zone before then I’m afraid things would get even worse, after we get to the safe zone we can consider returning to check if he’s still alive or not and don’t deceive yourself minister. He’s no innocent teen, he is corrupted, and this isn’t the democratic era, you have no right to question the decisions made by the military, please leave!"

Isaac’s words brought a look of surprise to the Minister’s face but he had no choice or option regarding the current situation.

’It’s pointless, humanity has fallen. This new era, no one knows what awaits us.’

Bang!

Booooommmm!!!!

A dark figure was blown out of the cloud of dust splattered across the plain, an endless amount of charged current splattered onto the black tide nearby creating something akin to a death zone for the ants, none of them dared take a single step further from their original position out of fear!

Erimitis extended his arm outward, creating a soft padding made with a mash of bones and landed softly on the ground, his eyes focused on the cloud of dust where Draxus lay sprawled.

He slowly stood up, his hands pushed up against the ground trembling incessantly with pain, the sparks of current flowed into his brain with such intensity they sent multiple waves of shock through his cortex leaving him in a totally disoriented state.

"I hope you keep me entertained."

Bang!

Bang!

Bang!

Three consecutive shots were fired from his arm cannon which exploded barely few meters away from Draxus, a static field made of lightning dissolved it, creating an explosion midair.

"Interesting, you’ve lost consciousness but you’re still moving."

"I can still hear you, you know?" Draxus said, his words slow and forced, eyes half closed but still fully conscious of his environment.

"Nice, it won’t be fun fighting a brain dead walking corpse." Erimitis then conjured two swords made from a dark glob of energy.

’I’ve always wanted to be free, to roam the world freely just like those from the novels I’ve read before back on Earth.’ he thought then took a light step forwards, stretched out his hand and conjured a sword made from lightning.

"Everything feels so free and easy, I won’t lose this time." He muttered then lowered his spine and leapt forward with a blinding speed as fast as the speed of flashing lightning.

Crack!!!

Boooommm!!!!

’Why? How? Why is he still so fucking strong?’ Draxus wondered in shock, his hands trembling incessantly when Erimitis followed up with a kick to his face.

"You’re still a kid, dare face me? Dream on!"

Bang!!
