Chapter 383: Melvin
Noan glanced at the man, his gaze carrying a trace of scrutiny, yet he found no such face in his memories and asked.
"You are..."
"You don’t need to know, because you... don’t have the资格." Melvin sneered, then immediately waved his hand.
A beam of light shot out from his palm, condensing into a squad of men.
Silver armor, mounted on white horses, burly bodies, long spears in hand.
Although there were only twenty of them, the aura they emitted was terrifying, as if it turned the entire space into a swamp, making anyone near them unable to move.
Noan frowned, a hint of confusion in his eyes, his voice sounding out, "Do I have any grudge with you?"
Valkerik and Napolia immediately stepped in front of him.
When Melvin saw the two girls, his eyes lit up. Although their looks were a little inferior to Yuna’s, it was only a little.
They were also stunning, beautiful enough to leave him dumbfounded.
He murmured, "Don’t kill those two girls. Leave them to me."
"Yes! Master!" The knights shouted.
Noan frowned and asked, "Didn’t you hear my question?"
Melvin sneered. "Hahaha... you’re just trash. You don’t even have the资格 to talk to me."
Noan: "..."
He pressed a hand to his forehead and sighed, then said to Valkerik and Napolia, "Don’t beat him to death."
The two nodded lightly, their eyes looking at Melvin as if he were an idiot.
Then...
...
"Big bro, can you not hit my face, okay?" Melvin cried as he spoke.
At this moment, he was kneeling on the ground, both cheeks swollen, clear handprints stamped on both sides of his face.
He wanted to cry, but he couldn’t.
The White Knights he had summoned no longer existed. No, to be precise, their dazzling existence had been reduced to ash under Valkerik’s boot.
"Tch!" Napolia planted a foot on Melvin’s head, clicking her tongue in disdain. "With just this, you dared provoke my Master? Where did you get that confidence from, huh?"
Valkerik glanced at Melvin, her eyes full of contempt, her heavy voice sounding out, "White Knight troops. Are you a Rank S Lord?"
Melvin jolted. He looked at Valkerik, then at Napolia, and finally his gaze settled on Noan.
"You... you’re not a Rank F Lord."
Hearing that, Noan frowned. "Answer my question first."
Melvin trembled. He had never imagined that his Rank S troop squad, along with a Rank S Hero, would be so easily defeated by these two women.
He was a Prince. He had enormous resources, so he had nurtured his soldiers and Hero to the highest possible limit.
Yet in front of these two women, they were like thin sheets of paper, easily pierced and burned to ash.
Especially that blonde woman in armor. The lightning she created was so terrifying that it incinerated his entire White Knight squad into dust.
Melvin gritted his teeth. "Yes, I’m a Rank S Lord, Level 5. My troops are White Knights."
Noan frowned, rubbing his chin. "You couldn’t summon any Hero higher than Rank S?"
Melvin: "..."
"What’s wrong?" Seeing him look like he had swallowed a cockroach, Noan felt even more confused.
Melvin said, "Big bro, you... you seem to have some misunderstanding about the ranks of Heroes and Lords."
"Explain it clearly." Noan asked with interest.
Melvin glanced at Valkerik and Napolia, who were staring at him with murderous intent, and shuddered. He hurriedly said, "A Rank S Lord can’t summon Heroes or troops with a rank higher than S unless they rely on special items."
"Those special items are very rare. Even I, as a Prince, have only ever possessed one special summoning card that could summon a Hero of Rank (S+). However, Heroes of Rank S or higher won’t have fixed loyalty."
"They can betray if they want, or if they feel the situation is unfavorable, they can run away."
Noan’s gaze flicked to Valkerik and Napolia.
Sensing his gaze, they hurriedly said, "Master! Don’t look at me like that. I will definitely never betray you."
Valkerik walked to his side, placed a hand over her chest, and said solemnly, "I swore loyalty to you, gave everything to you. I will absolutely never betray you."
Seeing their actions, Melvin could guess they were both Rank S Heroes, but... in the intel Frank gave him, Noan was only a Rank F Lord.
A Rank F Lord possessing a Rank SS Hero and two Rank S Heroes, was that reasonable?
Besides, even if those two Heroes were Rank S, how could they defeat his Rank S White Knight squad and his Rank S Hero?
Noan rubbed his chin, his gaze on Melvin as if weighing whether he was lying.
Then he continued, "Why did you attack me?"
"I..." Melvin pressed his lips together, then recounted how Frank had messaged him about Yuna’s existence.
Noan snorted with laughter, feeling that Yuna seemed to be having a lot of fun. But things still did not seem fun enough.
"All right. Go back out and just say you couldn’t find me." Noan smiled. "Besides, I’m not afraid you’ll take revenge, because... they’re all Rank SS."
Melvin took a deep breath, a terrifying storm rising in his heart.
Three Rank SS Heroes, are you kidding?!
With this power, even if Noan wanted to be Emperor, no one could stop him.
"Before absolute power, every scheme is nothing but a game for my amusement." Noan smiled. "I don’t intend to kill you, but I also don’t intend to let you leave easily."
Melvin trembled, cursing Frank’s entire family in his heart, using the foulest words possible.
Noan waved his hand, and a black sphere appeared, then flew toward Melvin.
He wanted to dodge, but his body was like stone, unable to move. He could only watch as that black energy sphere entered his body.
Noan sensed Melvin’s life was now in his hands, and nodded. "Prepare Energy Crystals and elemental stones, especially space elemental stones. The more the better. I need you to deliver them to me tomorrow."
Melvin also sensed an invisible tether between him and Noan. Naturally, that tether had bound his life.
He had a feeling that as long as he dared to entertain a thought of betrayal, he would be killed instantly.
Melvin truly wanted to cry. He didn’t understand why he had accepted Frank’s invitation to come here, then foolishly handed his life over to Noan.
He should have realized that if Yuna was that confident, then her Master couldn’t be weak.
But now, anything he said was too late.
He said wearily, "Understood, Master!"
"Ah. Good awareness." Noan was a bit surprised. He didn’t think a Prince would call him Master so easily. Sure enough... working with smart people was always simple.
...
Frank was a little anxious now. He stared at the System panel, but there was still no new notification.
"Father, what are you worried about?" Monia sneered. "Prince Melvin will definitely crush that trash. We should be preparing a victory banquet instead."
Frank shook his head. He had more than enough confidence that a Rank S Lord like Prince Melvin would easily defeat Noan.
However, he didn’t understand why he felt such a strong sense of unease.
"I hope Prince Melvin is fine..." Frank murmured.
At this moment, the System notification appeared on the main screen.
[Trial Complete! Lord Noan has passed the trial perfectly.]
"What?!" Frank jolted, eyes full of disbelief.
Monia also looked confused, about to ask her father what was happening, when at the teleportation gate, two figures appeared at the same time.
Noan and Melvin walked out of the gate. Melvin’s attitude toward Noan was extremely respectful, as if Noan was the Prince.
At this moment, Frank seemed able to guess what had happened. Sweat poured down him like rain, yet he still clung to one last shred of hope.
He hurried up to Noan and Melvin and said with a smile, "Congratulations on passing the test. However..."
His eyes flicked toward Melvin, but Melvin pretended not to see and said coldly, "Say what you want quickly. I need to prepare a banquet to welcome my big bro."
Frank: "..."
He felt like he had just heard something unbelievably strange. He frowned and asked, "Your Highness, you just said..."
"Yes." Melvin smiled. "From now on, this man is my big bro. Treat him as you would treat me. You will obey his words, understood?"
Frank completely collapsed. Damn it! He had invited Melvin here to seize that Rank SS Hero. Now it was great. Not only was Noan not defeated, he had become the Third Prince’s big bro.
The plot twist came too fast, and for a moment Frank’s mind went blank.
However, the Rank SS Hero was right in front of him. How could he let her slip out of his hands?
Frank gritted his teeth, as if he had made some decision. A cruel glint flashed in his eyes.
He waved his hand. Instantly, countless soldiers and Machine troops appeared, countless gun barrels aimed straight at Noan and Melvin.
Seeing that, Melvin was so furious his lungs nearly exploded. He roared through clenched teeth, "Grand General Frank, do you know what you’re doing?"
"Of course I know!" Frank clasped his hands behind his back, his expression frighteningly firm, his eyes overflowing with icy killing intent. "If I let you leave this place, I’ll have nothing left afterward."
"That’s why... I’m truly sorry, Third Prince. But... as long as he hands over that Rank SS Hero, I can let you and him leave."
"You..."
Melvin was about to speak, but Noan raised his hand, stopping him. Noan looked at Frank and frowned. "You really want to kill me?"
Frank sighed. "I have no other choice. Noan, there’s already a grudge between us. If I let you leave, I’m sure you won’t let me live comfortably afterward."
"That’s why... today, no matter what, you must die!"
