Chapter 369: Chapter 281: Serious (Part 2)

’If these ten people come, I’ll need to arrange things properly. I’ll have them play to their strengths, mainly focusing on maintaining security at the camp.’

"Then just call them over. It’d be best if they’re the type who can get some work done. Let’s cap it at ten for now; that should be enough."

Learning there were ten spots available, Yves was overjoyed. This way, he could arrange for a few more of his buddies suffering from PTSD.

By this time, the oil company’s outpost had been cleared.

Director Roland was filming everywhere with his camera, while Frank ran over to watch Frank interrogate Nash.

The oil workers were actually quite docile. They sat on the snow one by one, guarded by Peyton and Calio.

Taking advantage of the free moment, Feng Mountain turned to Yves and asked gossipily, "Oh, right, when are you planning to go get your daughter? We’ve talked about this many times."

His daughter!

Hearing this word, Yves’s tough-guy face softened with affection. "I’ve already called. She’s processing her leave of absence from school right now. Once things at the camp are settled, I’ll go back to Texas to get them."

Feng Mountain waved his hand magnanimously. "Don’t wait a few days. The sooner you go, the sooner you’re back. Once Jeff catches that bastard in Dead Horse Town, we’ll head to Fairbanks. You can fly the plane straight back to Texas."

"Boss, I want to bring my kids over too," Paine chimed in when he saw the opportunity.

One person or a whole group, it was all the same.

Besides, Paine and these other veterans had already proven their character and value, earning the right to become part of the Crown Territory.

Feng Mountain, of course, was feeling magnanimous.

"Anyone who wants to bring their family, bring them. I’ll cover the travel expenses. In a few days, we’ll build a school at the camp so the children’s education won’t be delayed."

The moment he finished speaking, the people from the Crown Territory burst into cheers.

Meanwhile, the supervisor and workers sitting on the snow looked on with envy.

’These days, having a good boss is luckier than meeting God himself.’

...

On the other side, the villagers and Ijiku Village Chief had all gathered at the entrance to the village.

Everyone’s faces were filled with worry and curiosity, their eyes fixed on the oil company’s outpost.

At first, everyone had simply thought the Sheriff was just going over to negotiate with the outpost’s workers.

But when they saw Feng Mountain and his men begin to seriously check their weapons, looking so solemn and cautious, the villagers faintly sensed that something was wrong.

It wasn’t until they were later advised to leave the area that they, though reluctant, realized the situation might be quite dangerous.

Only then did it dawn on them that a real firefight was probably about to break out.

What followed was a series of crisp gunshots.

The RAT-TAT-TAT sound echoed ceaselessly in the silent air.

Every gunshot was like a hammer blow to the hearts of the villagers and the Ijiku Village Chief.

Everyone knew that with negotiations escalating into a gunfight, the problem had become immense. It probably wouldn’t be resolved easily.

But unexpectedly, before anyone could recover from the intense gunfire, it was followed by a deafening BOOM.

The sound, like a crack of thunder, exploded over the village, making everyone’s ears ring.

The villagers looked toward the oil company’s outpost.

A ball of fire appeared on the dark-shrouded land, and immediately after, the ground began to shake as if there were an earthquake.

"Village Chief, the Sheriff will be okay, right?!" a villager asked worriedly.

After all, a gunfight was dangerous enough, but then they even used explosives.

"I... I don’t know. You all stay here. Mu Ke, Xiu’er, you two come with me to check it out."

The Ijiku Village Chief’s palms were slick with cold sweat.

’He was panicking. He had only intended to ask Feng Mountain to come and help handle things. How could he have known it would cause such a huge commotion?’

’He was the one who invited Feng. If Feng died in Noiksoth Village, how would he explain it to the Crown Territory? How would he explain it to the other villages and towns?’

He called out the two men, who grabbed their hunting rifles and emerged from the crowd. They followed behind the Ijiku Village Chief, trudging through the deep snow toward the oil company’s outpost.

「At this moment.」

Frank dragged Little Nash out of the room like a dead dog. Little Nash had been tormented until he had little strength left. Judging by his pathetic state, it was clear he hadn’t had an easy time in there.

Following him out of the room was Frank, his expression grave and his brow tightly furrowed. His eyes held a seriousness that told anyone who looked that this was no simple matter.

When Feng Mountain saw them come out, he hurried forward to meet them.

He only needed one look at Frank.

From his grave expression, he could faintly tell that the dark secrets unearthed by the interrogation were likely significant.

"How did it go?"

"Come with me." Frank didn’t answer directly, just gave Feng Mountain a grave look and beckoned him to the side.

The two then walked to one side and began whispering in low voices.

"Kid, this business is likely to cause an earthquake in Alaska. I don’t think you should get involved. If possible, leave this to me. That criminal will get what he deserves."

"Is it that serious?" Feng Mountain could tell from Frank’s tone that this was no ordinary matter.

’He had originally thought he was just dealing with a single criminal case against the Indigenous People.’

’But now it seemed to involve deeper, more complex issues.’

He instantly felt that the matter was far trickier than he had imagined.

"How many cases?"

Frank just shook his head, then his gaze fell on the outpost supervisor sitting in the snow. With a scrutinizing, cold look in his eyes, he lowered his voice.

"One in Noiksoth Village, and no fewer than ten in other places. Little Nash doesn’t know everything. That supervisor should know a lot."

"That many?" Hearing this number, Feng Mountain’s eyes narrowed instantly, and a flash of anger and shock crossed his face.

’He never would have imagined that so many similar, vicious incidents had occurred at just this one oil company outpost.’

’And that these evil deeds had been covered up all this time.’

Not far away, the outpost supervisor’s eyes darted from time to time toward Little Nash, who was slumped on the ground beside him like a dead dog.

’His heart was pounding with anxiety.’

’He had a feeling things were about to spiral out of control.’

Taking advantage of a moment when no one was paying attention, he quickly scooted next to Little Nash and asked viciously in a voice only the two of them could hear,

"You bastard, did you tell them everything?"

Little Nash grimaced, a pained and helpless look on his face, then silently nodded.

The meaning was clear: he had confessed everything he knew.

"Bastard, are you trying to get us all killed? You’re going to be the end of us all!" the supervisor roared in a low voice, his eyes wide and the veins on his forehead bulging.

’The end of us?’

’Do you have any idea what I went through in that room?’

Hearing this, Little Nash’s anger instantly ignited.

His face took on an expression that said ’if I’m going down, I’m taking you with me,’ tinged with a bit of madness and endless despair.

"Supervisor, you were part of it too. I told them everything I know. No one’s getting away."

When the outpost supervisor heard this, he instantly felt a chill run through his body, as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over his head. He froze on the spot.

As his gaze shifted to Feng Mountain and Frank, they happened to look over at him at the exact same moment.

Their gazes met in mid-air.

In that instant, the outpost supervisor saw the cold indifference in their eyes. He steeled himself and shouted at the top of his lungs,

"I want to be a cooperating witness! I want to apply for immunity!"

’This was the only path left for him now. If he could secure immunity, he might be able to escape this disaster.’

’Even if it meant betraying the company and the others... anyway, he hadn’t participated in those things himself. The priority was to save his own skin.’

Just then, Feng Mountain’s phone rang.

It was a call from Jeff. As soon as he answered, he heard laughter from the other end.

"Feng, that bastard named Mick has been caught. Do you need me to send him over to you?"

Feng Mountain replied, "Hold on," then covered the mouthpiece and looked at Frank.

"They’ve caught the guy. What now?"

Frank immediately said, "Send him directly to Fairbanks. Someone will be there to pick him up. I’ve already called people to come to Noiksoth Village. From now on, don’t ask anything, and don’t say anything. Just follow my instructions."

"Alright!" Feng Mountain nodded and said to Jeff, "Have your men send him directly to Fairbanks. Someone will take charge after he lands. I’ll give you a number in a bit."

"Roger that!" Jeff had a good habit: he never asked unnecessary questions.

After hanging up the phone, the atmosphere grew a bit oppressive.

Frank took over matters at the oil company outpost.

First, he had the workers sent into separate rooms, then had Frank interrogate them one by one. The focus, naturally, was on the white supervisor.

As for Feng Mountain and Nash, they were kicked out of the oil company outpost by Frank.

Squatting in front of the blasted-open iron gate, Feng Mountain smoked a cigarette.

’What a sloppy job this turned out to be.’
