Chapter 362: Chapter 278: Landing
Hearing this, everyone’s spirits lifted.
They hurriedly pulled open the curtains on the portholes, eager to see the situation in Noiksoot Village below.
In the polar night, a village blanketed in ice and snow came into view.
Pure white snow cloaked the entire village in a thick, silvery layer. Heavy drifts covered the rooftops, lined the roads, and clung to the tree branches.
Under the glow of the lights, the snow glittered, making the scene as beautiful and serene as a fairytale world.
Most of the houses in the village had a distinct local style—some were low-slung, while others had pointed roofs. They were scattered in a pleasingly irregular pattern, and a few wisps of cooking smoke rose slowly into the air, adding a touch of life to the cold, polar night.
After Yves deliberately lowered the plane’s altitude,
the view for everyone in the cabin grew sharper. All eyes turned to the village below.
In one area of the village, a large, dense crowd had gathered. The scene looked chaotic.
It looked like people were arguing fiercely. It was obvious that this was most likely where the incident had occurred.
"Boss, should we land?" Yves asked, holding the plane steady as he awaited Feng Mountain’s command.
Feng Mountain nodded without hesitation.
’We brought all this gear for a reason. There’s no turning back now.’
’Are we really going to circle once and head back?’
"Land."
Upon receiving the order, Yves immediately and methodically began his approach.
First, he had the P750 circle once at low altitude over Noiksoot Village; it was the polar night, after all.
This served to both confirm the situation on the ground and survey the surroundings, as well as to find a suitable angle and path for landing.
Then, using the plane’s GPS-assisted landing navigation system, Yves precisely located the airstrip and began his descent.
The aircraft’s landing gear slowly deployed.
The moment they touched the runway, there was a slight scraping sound.
The fuselage jostled slightly before the plane settled smoothly onto the airstrip.
Meanwhile, the villagers who had been arguing heatedly
all looked up at the sky at the roar of the airplane.
When they saw the plane clearly...
and the eye-catching Crown Territory logo painted on its surface...
hope instantly ignited in their eyes...
as if they had seen their savior.
They immediately stopped arguing and swarmed toward the airstrip.
Once the plane came to a complete stop,
the villagers had already reached the side of the airstrip, panting for breath.
At the very front was a middle-aged man with the features of the Indigenous People; he was the chief of Noiksoth Village, Ijiku.
The cabin door opened, and Feng Mountain was the first to jump out.
His fully-armed appearance immediately caught everyone’s eye.
It truly shocked the villagers.
A powerful shotgun was slung across his back, his tactical vest was stuffed with magazines, and two pistols were tucked into his waistband.
He exuded an air of cold indifference.
It was the kind of aura one only saw when hunting animals.
The villagers couldn’t help but be astonished.
’Are Sheriffs this intense these days?’ they thought.
’To show up for a case with so much gear.’
However, after the initial shock, an indescribable sense of security washed over the villagers.
After all, the chief had told them before.
This Chief Sheriff of the Far North Tundra Region was supposedly a very capable man.
He was brilliant at solving cases, a man of integrity who specifically championed justice for the Indigenous People.
So, seeing Feng Mountain now, with his powerful presence and sophisticated equipment,
the villagers felt as if a great weight had been lifted from their shoulders.
They felt certain that the matter would now be properly resolved.
Their panicked and angry emotions began to subside.
As Feng Mountain disembarked, the others followed, filing out one by one.
Paine and the others, also in full tactical gear, were such an impressive sight that the villagers almost couldn’t stop themselves from cheering.
Each of them carried several weapons.
Their automatic rifles glinted with a cold, metallic sheen under the aircraft’s lights.
They were armed to the teeth, carrying so many weapons it was staggering.
It felt like all they were missing were a few grenades on their belts to complete the ensemble.
Even the state troopers would probably feel outgunned by such fine equipment.
"Mr. Sheriff, you came so quickly."
A grateful smile spread across the Ijiku Village Chief’s face. He hurried forward, extending a hand to Feng Mountain in welcome and thanks.
After all, when Noiksoth Village had first appointed Feng Mountain as their Sheriff, they hadn’t paid him even one cent; it was simply a mutual agreement.
Feng Mountain could have easily chosen not to come and help with this matter.
So, the Ijiku Village Chief knew he had to be humble, polite, and respectful.
It would be the best way to ensure Feng Mountain would help them solve the village’s thorny problem.
Seeing this, Feng Mountain quickly reached out and firmly shook the chief’s hand.
"Chief, it’s been a while."
After they shook hands,
the Ijiku Village Chief asked politely,
"Feng, would you like to rest for a bit and have something to eat first?"
"No need. Let’s get straight to business. What’s the situation?"
Feng Mountain shook his head, his expression serious.
’This isn’t a social call. I brought all these armed men here to solve a problem.’
’The priority is to catch the perpetrator. There’s no time to rest and eat.’
Just then, Frank, who had just disembarked, was shivering violently in the cold. He rubbed his hands together, trying to warm up, and couldn’t help but interject with a question.
