Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Shattered Illusions

SONIA’S POV

I walked ahead of Blane, but we walked in silence. My bare feet padded softly on the path, the morning dew still clinging to the grass and cooling my skin with each step.

It was an awkward walk, as expected. Even the trees around us remained still as we walked past them, their leaves barely rustling in the light breeze. They could also sense the tension, and awkwardness.

Finally, we made it to the house, and just as we made the round to the compound, Ivy came from the other side.

We stumbled into each other, and her eyes widened when she saw me, her mouth falling open in shock.

"Sonia, I’ve been looking everywhere for you. What the hell happened, and where have you been?" She asked in a caring, but also reprimanding voice, her hands immediately reaching out to touch my arms as if to confirm I was real.

I had moved my lips to answer when I saw her eyes dart towards Blane.

An expression flickered through it in seconds, but I caught it before it disappeared—a mix of surprise and something deeper, almost longing.

There had been questionable doubts in that regard. One that gave me a headache because my brain was trying to communicate something again, a fuzzy pull at the edges of my memory.

"Why do you look like this? What happened to you?" The disbelief in her voice returned, as she looked at me from my head to my toes, her nose wrinkling slightly at the sight of the sand and dirt on my clothes.

I didn’t know how to even begin all that had happened to her.

Would that even be appropriate? Maybe if I told her my mid part was sore, not a bad, but a good kind of sore, perhaps, she’d understand what happened between Ramon and me.

At the thought of Ramon, I almost smiled. It still felt too good to be true, the memory of his hands on my skin, his voice in my ear, the way he had claimed me so completely.

"I don’t understand why you won’t answer my question. Hello?" She waved a hand across my face, her fingers brushing my cheek.

"I think you two should go inside, and talk. I’ll head to the training ground now."

I saw her watch him leave. Her eyes followed his back intensely, until he disappeared out of sight, a soft sigh escaping her lips.

If I didn’t know better, I’d swear there was something personal behind that look.

"Okay young lady, I’ve had enough of your silence. Explain to me like I’m a pup, why you’re bathed in sand."

I gasped in surprise. "That bad?" I asked, looking down at my clothes.

"Oh, so you do have a voice? Excellent!"

"It’s not what you think, Ivy. I just don’t know how to tell you."

"Well you better find a way, because I want to know every single detail. But first, let’s get you clean."

She wrinkled her nose, and shook her head, as she led me into the house, her hand on my back guiding me gently.

"Where’s Moon?" I asked immediately as we entered the living room, my eyes scanning the space.

"He’s behind the house. Says he wants to be alone. I told him to be careful. If the alpha comes around and senses his presence, he’ll slit his throat before we arrive to save him."

"I don’t know why Ramon has refused to believe his innocence. It’s almost like he wants him to be guilty, so he can pour out his anger on him," I replied, as I walked through the door to my room, she held open for me.

"Well, simple. That’s because he’s jealous. Although he’ll never admit it. And Ramon, huh? Since when did you call him with such brightness in your eyes?" She said, coming in after me, her tone teasing but curious.

"What do you mean?" I asked, but couldn’t stop the crimson that covered my cheeks, heat spreading across my face.

She smiled. It started with just a twitch of her lips, but graduated into a smile that even reached her eyes.

"You were with him, weren’t you?"

Before I could reply, she began to sniff into the air, her nose wrinkling as she circled me.

"Oh you were definitely with him." She bobbed her head, throwing me a knowing look, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Stop it, Ivy," I said shyly, burying my face in my laps, my cheeks burning hotter.

The bed sank a little, as she plopped beside me, the mattress dipping under her weight.

"Tell me everything. How was it? Did you enjoy yourself? Oh my, did it happen on the ground? How could the alpha be so crass?!" She scoffed, her voice a mix of shock and excitement.

"No, it’s not what you think," I lifted my head, ready to defend Ramon. "It wasn’t like we planned anything. It just sorta happened."

"Allow me to paint a scene, my beloved," she sat up, her back straightened, and her chin jutted like she was in some sort of play. "It was a cold night," she began.

"Uhmm, not that cold," I interrupted.

"It was a warm night, filled with stars lined up in the sky," she corrected.

"I think it was midnight. Way past midnight," I cut in again.

She paused, and threw me a warning glare. It was my cue not to interrupt her again.

"It was way past midnight, but the forest was warm, and bright stars lined up the sky. The alpha, holding the hands of his future Luna, strolled through the forest, laughing heartily."

"I mean we were kinda—"

"Hey, I said don’t interrupt me anymore!" She snapped, causing me to flinch. "You know what, let’s forget about it. Go take a shower, and clean up. I’ll be outside, setting the table for breakfast."

She kissed her teeth, and stormed out of the room, her footsteps heavy on the floor.

"Wow," I blurted, both confused and amazed by her outburst.

Anyway, it did stop the awkwardness of an imaginary recreation of what was thought to happen.

It was never going to compare to what actually happened, hence, shouldn’t even be reimagined.

With a smile on my face, I hopped, skipped, and jumped to the bathroom, the cool tiles under my feet a welcome contrast to the warmth still lingering on my skin from Ramon’s touch.

I sang heartily, as the water descended on my skin, the stream cascading over my shoulders and washing away the dirt and memories of the night.

My wolf had disappeared again, but I now knew she had not totally left me. The brief flickers of her presence during the night with Ramon gave me hope.

Lorena was not going to be a problem between Ramon and I anymore, because she would have to take out time to recover.

Before she returned, we would have formed an unbreakable bond.

I almost let out a scream as the thoughts continued to line up prettily.

I turned off the shower after properly rinsing off, and stretched to pick my towel, the soft fabric cool against my damp skin.

My hands paused in the air, when I heard voices.

It was obvious it was coming from behind the house.

Moon’s voice caught my attention, and I decided to listen in, pressing my ear closer to the wall.

"You have to come into the house. The alpha is going to be in an erratic mood. Especially considering the fact that Lorena is pregnant for him."

My hand dropped down on hearing Ivy’s voice.

"Lorena? Preg-nant?" I stuttered.

It was all I could do to keep myself from collapsing to the ground.
