Chapter 139: Chapter 118: Worse Than a Single Gnoll

The Grassland Riders and Grassland Warriors, fighters accustomed to galloping across the vast plains, finally felt the solid backs of their warhorses beneath them once more.

They gripped the reins tightly, eager to display their might!

During the previous defensive battle, their role had been severely limited. They could only watch helplessly as the infantry and archers fought on the walls, unable to contribute as they should.

This had been a source of immense frustration for them. Their warhorses, as if sensing their masters’ anxiety, stomped their hooves restlessly, yearning for a charge.

Now, they finally had a chance to show their true strength.

The Cavalry gathered at the city gate. As soon as the passage was mostly clear, they would be the first to charge out and teach the enemy the meaning of war with their Riding Spears and lances, their sabers and bows!

The riders, clad in light armor, held lances that glinted coldly in the sun. They were ready to charge.

Thanks to the villagers’ efforts, the obstacles at the gate were quickly removed, and a path leading outside the city gradually became clear.

The Cavalry began to adjust their positions, the sound of their warhorses’ hooves echoing within the city walls.

The Senior Infantry and Skilled Infantry stood behind the Cavalry, their eyes filled with envy as they watched the horsemen prepare to charge.

Bain and the other Attendants were already mounted, their postures erect and their gazes sharp, ready to charge alongside the Cavalry.

Vasco and his men could only make way for the Cavalry to charge first.

Once the obstacles at the gate were completely cleared, the Cavalry began to form up into a charge formation.

Outside the walls, a few enemy soldiers who hadn’t started climbing heard the commotion at the gate. They approached in twos and threes, wanting to see what was happening.

They cautiously peeked around the corner, only to be stunned by the sight before them.

Masses of tall Cavalry and an endless line of Heavy Armor Soldiers, a sea of shadowy figures, were preparing to charge.

These soldiers had only wanted to scout out the situation, never expecting to see such a scene.

Their eyes filled with terror, and the weapons in their hands began to tremble involuntarily.

’What’s going on? The enemy is charging out of the city to fight?’

"Look!" a soldier shouted, pointing toward the walls, his voice laced with panic.

"Gods, that’s Cavalry! And Heavy Armor Soldiers! They’re coming out!"

"We have to get back and report this!"

But they were out of time.

The Cavalry was already set to charge. Their warhorses broke into a trot, ready to burst out at top speed.

"Run!"

one soldier screamed. They turned and fled, trying to escape the danger zone as quickly as possible.

But their speed was no match for the warhorses.

The moment the villagers cleared the gateway, the Cavalry burst through the broken gates like a hurricane.

The enemy soldiers immediately dove to either side of the gate, dropped their weapons, and lay flat on the ground, not daring to move a muscle.

’What’s that? You think they should’ve shouted for their comrades to charge right through the newly cleared gate?’

One of the fleeing soldiers glanced back and saw the Cavalry pouring out of the gate like a flood... ’Yeah, never mind.’

Faced with such a charge, they stood no chance. Their only option was to surrender in hopes of surviving the battle.

The Cavalry struck like bolts of lightning, charging straight for the enemy’s position.

Their Riding Spears and lances were raised, their warhorses like ferocious beasts, utterly fearless. They had only one objective.

To crush the enemy and seize victory!

The infantry followed close behind. The horn of battle had sounded!

At the foot of the walls, the enemy soldiers who had been preparing to climb were dumbfounded. They stared blankly as countless Cavalry surged toward their camp like a tidal wave.

Another group of horsemen, men and steeds clad in light armor, was charging right at them, the infantry! Having spent half their lives on the plains, the enemy soldiers recognized them in a single glance—Grassland Riders!

The Cavalry’s momentum was unstoppable. Their warhorses thundered forward, the sound of their hooves like a storm, as if the horses were trampling directly on their skulls!

A large number of armored soldiers followed close behind, rushing toward the enemy troops who had gathered into a Shield Array to defend against arrows from above.

"Gods, they’ve charged out!"

"Quick, prepare to defend!"

But their orders came too late.

The Cavalry was too fast; their charge shattered the enemy’s line instantly.

It all happened too fast! So fast they couldn’t even react!

The enemy was thrown into chaos. The soldiers panicked, trying to form a defense, but their efforts were futile against such a ferocious charge.

The Cavalry’s Riding Spears and lances pierced through them. The warhorses weaved through the battlefield, completely disrupting the enemy’s formation.

The surprise attack, coupled with the instant death of many of their comrades, left them with no will to continue fighting.

The infantry followed the Cavalry, tearing the enemy’s defensive line apart piece by piece with their spears and shields.

Under the dual assault of the Cavalry and infantry, the enemy soldiers at the base of the wall began to break. Some started to flee, their courage and fighting spirit completely shattered.

The Cavalry and infantry did not let this opportunity pass. They continued to advance, steadily encroaching upon the enemy camp.

Their assault was like a relentless tide, wave after wave, giving the enemy no chance to breathe.

Amidst the chaotic battlefield, the enemy’s main force barely managed to hold back the Cavalry charging their camp.

They relied on their numerical superiority to form a solid defensive line, creating a bulwark of shields and spears, though they couldn’t hide the terrified expressions on their faces.

Three Barons and a Knight stood behind the line, their hands gripping their weapons, legs trembling with fear.

They had never imagined that Henry would actually dare to sally out and fight them. It was completely beyond their expectations.

They had assumed Henry would hole up in his fortress like any other lord.

"That madman! How does he dare!" one Baron’s voice trembled, his eyes filled with disbelief.

"We have to hold the line! We can’t let his charge succeed!"

"We have more soldiers than they do! As long as we can hold on, victory will be ours!"

’Henry opened the gate himself. Since he chose to fight outside the walls, he can’t blame us for drawing up our battle lines!’

’Besides, it would be far too humiliating if we lost!’

’Henry’s army must have casualties too. No matter how you look at it, with our three thousand plus against their one thousand plus, our advantage is still huge!’

After a period of chaos, panic, and futile resistance, most of the enemy soldiers at the foot of the wall chose to surrender.

They threw down their weapons and raised their hands, signaling their surrender.

Soldiers from the walls quickly took over from the infantry, guarding the surrendered troops to ensure they posed no further threat.

Henry’s soldiers, a dense, dark mass, formed orderly ranks and pressed toward the enemy.

Their Morale was High, and they were unstoppable. Although the enemy outnumbered Henry’s army by more than a thousand men, the situation on the battlefield made it seem as if *they* were the ones about to be surrounded.

The enemy Cavalry had failed to organize. Henry’s army had charged so quickly that the opposing horsemen didn’t even have time to assemble.

The enemy commanders tried to regroup their forces, but on this chaotic battlefield, their orders could hardly be heard.

"Shield Array! Scouts, prepare!" a Baron bellowed, but to little effect.

"The Cavalry? Where is our Cavalry?" another Baron asked anxiously, looking around only to see a scene of utter chaos.

The Knight’s face was pale. "Those damned bastards, their warhorses are out grazing! There’s no time! We can only rely on the infantry to hold the line now."

Henry’s army gave the enemy no time to prepare. His Cavalry crisscrossed the battlefield, relentlessly harassing the enemy lines. Each time they approached the front, they would unleash a volley of arrows, making life miserable for the enemy infantry.

The Shield Array of Skilled Infantry steadily advanced, drawing closer and closer to the enemy formation.

Within the final sprinting distance, both sides hurled Javelins. Streaks of sharp metal light cut through the sky with a whistling sound. The Javelins rained down, striking shields or the bodies of the unfortunate.

Immediately after, the two battle lines crashed into each other with a deafening roar.

The Skilled Infantry brandished their Long Swords and axes, engaging in close-quarters combat with the enemy Swordsmen and spearmen.

Mixed in among them, the Senior Infantry fought in small groups. Relying on their rich combat experience and seamless coordination, they plowed through the enemy ranks.

They were like sharp daggers, constantly tearing through the enemy’s formation, sowing chaos and panic.

Every charge they made left the enemy’s defenses on the verge of collapse; every swing of their weapons stole an enemy’s life.

Vasco spat, clearing his mouth of splattered blood. ’These enemies aren’t even a match for a single Half-Beastman Gnoll!’ he judged.

The Grassland Riders and Grassland Warriors weaved in and out of the gaps torn in the enemy’s line.

They used their warhorses’ high speed and their own agility to continuously strike at the enemy.

From atop their swift horses, their sabers easily slit enemy throats or sent weapons and shields flying.

Their appearance was always accompanied by a gust of wind, a flash of light, a scream of agony, and then a spray of blood...

In this chaotic battle, Henry’s army demonstrated its ferocity.

Not only were they at a numerical disadvantage, but their equipment was also on par with the enemy’s.

But by leveraging their High Morale and vast combat experience, they had forcibly seized the initiative.

Faced with the fierce assault from Henry’s army, the enemy soldiers in the camp began to waver.

Some of them started to fall back, and a few even began to desert the battlefield.

The officers led the Supervision Team to cut down a number of deserters, trying to stabilize the line, but their efforts seemed increasingly futile against the relentless assault of Henry’s army.

The battle raged on, but the scales of victory were already starting to tip.
