Chapter 938: Chapter 45: Five Seconds of Resistance_2

When the Sword Saint of Tian Gang made his appearance, he had his back to Xuan Ye. He slowly turned around, his eyes flashing cold electricity as they opened and closed. Xuan Ye felt shocked upon seeing that the white-haired Sword Saint of Tian Gang appeared to be about the same age as himself. In his heart, he realized that extraordinary looks indeed came with extraordinary abilities, and the gleam in the Sword Saint’s eyes fully demonstrated his inscrutable power.

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang snorted coldly and said, "I didn’t expect that after thirty years, you, this little monkey, would become the Red Bishop of the Church. Coming here to strut around. Even your father would call me ’senior’ when he sees me. Don’t think your Church is all that impressive; it’s nothing in my eyes."

Xuan Ye was deeply shaken; the secret that he was the son of the Pope was known by very few within the Church, yet here the Sword Saint of Tian Gang had revealed it bluntly. "Are you the Sword Saint of Tian Gang? The junior, Xuan Ye, is at fault," he acknowledged, well aware that he was no match for the Sword Saint, which caused much of his arrogance to subside.

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang closed his eyes and indifferently said, "Have you come here just to give my disciple a lesson?"

Xuan Ye, accustomed to reverence throughout the continent, was faced with this old man who truly didn’t regard the Church as important, as he himself had said. Xuan Ye, suppressing his anger, responded, "The Sword of Hades is the most sinister object in the world. I merely wanted to test whether Ah Dai has the capability to guard it."

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang snorted coldly and replied, "Does my disciple need you to test him? You are greatly underestimating my Tian Gang Sword Sect. Since you’ve tested my disciple’s power, shouldn’t I also test how profound your magic is?"

Xuan Ye was taken aback; he had not expected the Sword Saint of Tian Gang would challenge him outright, disregarding his own status. He protested, "Sword Saint, I admit that I am no match for you, sir."

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang grunted, "Good that you know. I do not wish to see anyone from your Church near the Tian Gang Mountains again. You don’t have to be dissatisfied. If you want to fight, having your father come here would be more appropriate. Watch this." He suddenly stretched out his left hand and made a grasping motion in the air.

Xuan Ye was puzzled; there was no powerful aura emanating from the Sword Saint of Tian Gang. Just as he was confused, he was startled to see the mountain mists stirring, drifting towards the direction of the Sword Saint like water being sucked by a giant whale. With a flick of his wrist on his right hand, the mist dramatically dispersed, but he now held a longsword condensed from the mist. Without any visible preparation, he casually waved it, and the mist sword shot out, heading towards a distant towering peak. All eyes followed the mist sword. Contrary to expectations, there was no explosion; the mist sword vanished, but it had pierced through the mountain creating a huge hole without causing any collapse, as if the hole was naturally meant to be there. Everyone was stunned, motionless; if Xuan Ye’s magic was impressive, then the feat of the Sword Saint’s mist sword could only be described as miraculous.

Xuan Ye gasped, understanding that even his strongest magic, fully unleashed, would not penetrate a target so far away, let alone, the Sword Saint’s casual demeanor revealed no strain, suggesting he hadn’t used much effort at all. He was right; only his father could possibly contend with him.

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang resumed his hands-behind-back posture, lightly saying, "Did you see clearly? A millennium calamity is soon upon us. Put your abilities to good use."

Xuan Ye’s eyes flickered with complex emotions, and after a long moment, he said, "You are an elder, I naturally cannot refute your words."

The Sword Saint of Tian Gang gave a slight smile, his voice ringing near Xuan Ye’s ear, "What, still not convinced? You are also an elder to Ah Dai, the same message applies to you. If I were to strike with all my might, I’m afraid you wouldn’t last five seconds. The Sword of Hades indeed is the most sinister object in the world. With Ah Dai’s current abilities, guarding it is challenging indeed. However, I will prove to you that my disciple’s achievements will not be inferior to yours. Five years from now, right here, you can have a fair contest with Ah Dai. If you win, the Sword of Hades will be returned to your Church; if you lose, I hope you will marry your daughter to Ah Dai." He had long heard from Sect leader Xi Wen about Ah Dai’s and Xuan Yue’s relationship, which is why he made such a proposal.

Xuan Ye was shaken; he had not expected the Sword Saint of Tian Gang to play matchmaker for Ah Dai. Five years? He was vastly underestimating himself. Forget five years; even in thirty years, Ah Dai might not reach the power of Sect leader Xi Wen, and his own magical powers would also continue to improve. Hearing this, the wager seemed greatly in his favor. Resolutely, he answered, "Very well, since you put it that way, let it be as you wish. Xuan Ye will surely return in five years." Having said this, he grasped Xuan Yue, activated the magic power within him, and was about to leave surrounded by a white holy light.

"Wait a moment, Daddy." Xuan Yue sobbed, trying to stop her father.

Xuan Ye frowned; the intangible pressure from the Sword Saint of Tian Gang kept him at a disadvantage, subjecting him to humiliation, all because of his daughter. Unable to stop it, he snapped irritably, "What else do you want?"
