Chapter 863: Chapter 30: Internal Strife_2
Yan Li seemed a bit embarrassed as he spoke, "These past two days have been exhausting; finally, there’s a chance to rest, and I still can’t sleep. Brother Yan Shi, what were you discussing?"
Yan Shi replied indifferently, "Ah Li, as a warrior, you must always remain alert. The road ahead is perilous, and you need to be more cautious. We were discussing how to pass through the Tian Yuan Clan territory. Our Pu Yan Clan has never dealt with the Beast Men; we might encounter some trouble when we pass through their lands."
Yan Li said, "Not scared! If they dare block our path, I’ll just hack them down with my battle axe, one by one. I don’t believe anyone can stop me."
Yue Ji, with disdain, said, "You think you’re capable? Fighting a whole clan by yourself, I would really like to see how you charge through."
Yan Li, furious, said, "Are you looking down on me, woman? I’m one of the strongest warriors of the Pu Yan Clan."
Yue Ji, already aggravated by XuanYue, became even angrier when Yan Li called her ’woman,’ saying, "Who are you calling ’woman,’ you muscly but unintelligent lump?"
Yan Li swiftly pulled out his battle axe, and chillingly said, "You call me unintelligent again, and I challenge you to a duel."
Ah Dai stood up and said, "We’ve rested enough, let’s hit the road. Brother Yan Li, your battle axe is really beautiful, may I look at it?" After speaking, he walked towards Yan Li, positioning himself in front of Yue Ji.
As Ah Dai was considered by Yan Shi and predicted by Prophet Pu Lin to be a benefactor, Yan Li was much more polite to him, handing over the battle axe with a huff, "That woman from the Red Charming Clan really has a nasty mouth, I hate it when people call me unintelligent."
While strapping on her own longbow, Yue Ji grumbled as she walked towards the carriage, "Just because he’s short, he won’t let people mention it."
With excellent hearing, Yan Li overheard this and roared, "You insult me, I will kill you." As he spoke, he snatched the battle axe from Ah Dai’s hands.
Ah Dai turned around, shielding his back against Yan Li, and shouted to Yue Ji, "Sister Yue Ji, that was wrong of you. How can you mock someone’s flaws?"
With a cold huff, Yue Ji responded, "Mind your own business. Let him come at me if he dares; you think I’m afraid?’
Yan Shi, seeing the commotion, swiftly slapped Yue Ji across the face, sending her sprawling to the side amid the shocked cries of onlookers. Miao Fei and Wan Li, who were members of the Moon Scar Mercenary Corps like Yue Ji, quickly drew their weapons, furious at seeing their comrade being hit.
Yue Ji was slapped several meters away and fell to the ground, a clear handprint appearing on her fair face, with fresh blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. She was stunned by the hit. No one, not even her parents, had ever hit her before, and the tall ,huge man in front of her had slapped her without mercy.
With his hand on the hilt of his sword, Moon Scar furiously said, "Brother Yan Shi, why did you hit my sister?"
Yan Shi, expressionless, replied, "Because she needed to be disciplined. With her arrogant and domineering nature, she deserved a lesson long ago. Since you, as her brother, did not intervene, I did it for you. With her tendency to offend people with every word she speaks, we might all end up dead before even reaching the Death Mountain Range because of her mouth. Don’t you think I was justified? Our Pu Yan Clan warriors have a great sense of dignity, which cannot be violated. If you disagree, feel free to seek revenge."
Struggling to get up, Yue Ji’s armor was disheveled, and her meticulously tied hair had come undone. With the imprint of the slap and the blood on her lips, she looked particularly disheveled. Her pale lips quivering as she fiercely pulled her longbow from behind, and with a flash of silver light, she shot an arrow at Yan Shi.
Surprise flashed in Yan Shi’s eyes as he clenched his hands and caught the silver arrow between his palms.
Seeing Yan Shi hit Yue Ji even stunned Yan Li for a moment; after all, Yue Ji was a girl. Being struck so heavily, it was just too much.
As Xuan Yue ran to Ah Dai’s side, she grasped his arm and whispered, "Brother Yan Shi has quite the temper! From now on, if I say anything wrong, you have to protect me. I don’t want to be hit."
Ah Dai nodded, stepped forward to confront the approaching Miao Fei and Wan Li, and said, "Stop fighting. We’re all friends here. If we don’t stick together, how can we retrieve the Top-Grade Magic Crystal from the Death Mountain Range? Brother Moon Scar, Brother Wan Li, Brother Miao Fei, let’s all calm down a bit."
Shouting, Miao Fei said, "Ah Dai, step aside! Why did he hit Yue Ji? Let him fight us too."
Yan Li also rushed over and, joining Yan Shi, said, "Brother, let it go."
Yue Ji, her voice altered by anger, pointed her longbow at Yan Shi and said, "You dare to hit me, today it’s either you or me." While speaking, her right hand drew three more long arrows from her quiver.
Standing there, Yan Shi coldly watched Yue Ji, tossed the silver arrow aside, and said, "Your archery is not bad, but it’s not easy to kill me. You think you’re all that? A bunch of young mercenaries with little skill, do you really think you can make a name for yourselves on the mainland? Don’t dream. Ah Dai Brother, step aside. Let me discipline them a bit to make them realize there are always greater people in the world. Otherwise, by the time we reach the Death Mountain Range, we might all get trapped there."
