Chapter 816: Chapter 20: Special Task_2

"Do I even need to say it? Miss has been under my watch since she was born. The moment she came into this world, the director handed me this task. I couldn’t believe it myself, considering we’re hardly anything special in the Court of Justice! You should hurry, for time is life."

One of the two dark shadows vanished in a few quick movements, while the other followed quietly behind Ah Dai and Xuan Yue.

As they walked, Xuan Yue said excitedly, "Ah Dai, what do you think, will our mercenary level increase a lot if we complete this task? Maybe we could even become special class mercenaries. That would be so fun. Hehe." She seemed to have forgotten her disagreement with Ah Dai that morning, her heart filled with anticipation for the adventure.

They had already picked up the Tian Gang Sword from the Mage Guild, and Ah Dai had no objections to Xuan Yue taking on this task. His mind was focused on the term "top-grade crystal". "Miss, I want to ask you a question."

Xuan Yue, in a good mood, responded, "Go ahead and ask."

Ah Dai said, "Miss, do you know what a top-grade crystal looks like? If we don’t even know what our target looks like, how are we supposed to find it?" 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Xuan Yue smiled mysteriously, leaned close to Ah Dai, and after cautiously looking around, whispered, "I didn’t expect you to start thinking about such questions. Of course, I know what it looks like. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have taken this task."

Ah Dai was startled and asked, "You know?"

Proudly, Xuan Yue said, "Of course. Don’t forget, my father is the Red Bishop of the church. There isn’t anything I haven’t seen. Look." She then extended her magic wand towards Ah Dai, pointing to the transparent gemstone on it, and whispered, "This is a top-grade magic crystal."

Ah Dai had never really noticed Xuan Yue’s magic wand before. Now that she mentioned it, he began to examine it closely. The wand, only about a foot long, seemed unremarkable at first glance. Its white handle was polished and glossy, exuding a faint sacred aura. The tip was sharply cone-shaped, and at the very top, white wings of the same material spread diagonally, subtly bent to form curves akin to an angel’s wings. At the center of the wings, at the very top of the wand, there was a chicken egg-sized transparent gem embedded, seemingly containing a flowing liquid, which intermittently flashed with faint light under the sun’s reflection. Pointing at the central gem, Ah Dai asked, "Are you saying that this piece is the top-grade magic crystal?"

Xuan Yue nodded and said, "Yes! That’s what my dad told me. He definitely wouldn’t lie. Don’t you believe it?"

Ah Dai examined the central transparent gem on the wand and couldn’t see anything extraordinary. Xuan Yue explained, "A top-grade magic crystal contains a special type of energy fluctuation. As soon as I see it, I’ll definitely recognize it. They said earlier we didn’t have a warrior, but they don’t know you are a warrior, hehe. Let’s move on, we’ll prepare some food first and then set off."

Ah Dai followed Xuan Yue to the chubby owner’s bun shop. Xuan Yue glanced at Ah Dai and said, "Don’t you love steamed buns? Let’s prepare plenty to have on the road." She then walked confidently towards the bun shop. Ah Dai hesitated for a moment, feeling a slight stir in his heart, but said nothing and simply followed her.

As soon as the chubby owner saw Ah Dai and Xuan Yue arriving, he exclaimed excitedly, "Ah Dai, you’ve come! I was just thinking about returning the leftover money to you. The money you gave yesterday was far too much for those buns, not even worth a Gold Coin!"

Ah Dai pulled back his hood, smiling naively, and said, "Uncle, please keep it. That was what I owed you."

Xuan Yue stepped forward and asked, "Boss, I want to buy buns. How much for one?"

The chubby owner answered, "Two for a copper coin. Miss, you’re with Ah Dai, right? Just take them, Ah Dai paid far too much yesterday."

Xuan Yue giggled and commented, "I need a lot, though. As you know, he can eat a lot."

The chubby owner laughed heartily and responded, "Take as many as you like, take enough to fill up."

Xuan Yue glanced at Ah Dai, who had resumed his naïve demeanor since they met the chubby owner. It seemed he was still holding a grudge against her. That cold and indifferent attitude was unbearable. If she wanted him to reliably stick by her side as her companion, it seemed she needed to bribe him a bit.

Thinking this, Xuan Yue held up a finger to the chubby owner and said, "I want a thousand steamed buns."

Ah Dai and the chubby owner both looked at Xuan Yue in surprise, with the owner nearly collapsing, stammering, "What? A thousand buns?"

Xuan Yue, seeing their shocked faces, laughed and said, "Yes, a thousand, for tonight. This way, even if he eats ten a day, it will last him more than three months."

The chubby owner, still stuttering in astonishment, managed to say, "But, but a thousand buns, how will you carry them?"

Xuan Yue mysteriously responded, "Don’t worry about that. Just make sure you prepare a thousand buns for us, and I will pay you. Ah Dai, let’s go buy some other things." After saying this, she threw a purple crystal coin to the owner and pulled Ah Dai by the sleeve and walked away.

Ah Dai was also curious; a thousand buns together would weigh somewhere around two to three hundred pounds. Though he didn’t mind the weight, surely they couldn’t carry a huge sack of buns on an expedition. But he didn’t ask; he knew that even if he did, Xuan Yue might not answer him. Anyway, once the buns were ready, they would find out.
