Chapter 573: Chapter 161: Encounter with the Girl Again_3
Dropping quietly behind a rockery in the courtyard, Ah Dai used the surrounding terrain to shield himself as he scanned the area. There was a small bamboo grove beside the rockery, with nothing out of the ordinary. The gentle breeze rustled through the bamboo, casting a patchwork of tree shadows on the ground under the bright moonlight. Ah Dai entered the bamboo grove, not knowing where to start. He made his way cautiously to the edge of the bamboo grove and looked towards the buildings of the Governor’s Mansion.
Most of the buildings were quiet, with only faint light coming from a few places. As a patrol of soldiers passed by, Ah Dai flitted up onto the roof of one of the buildings and lay flat, making no noise. Drawing a deep breath, he stimulated the Golden Body within him to float towards his head, continuously amplifying his hearing. Various noisy sounds were suddenly transmitted clearly into his ears. He carefully picked out these sounds, and after a while, his attention was caught by a conversation coming from the east side. He directed his hearing towards that room where a man and a woman were talking, or rather, they were flirting. The man said, "Rong Rong, your skin is so smooth!"
The woman huffed, saying, "Stop, how do I compare to your fake younger sister?"
The man laughed apologetically, saying, "Of course, you are much better. How could a humble-born girl like her compare to a young lady like you? Let’s avoid talking about her when we are together."
"Hmph, don’t try to fool me, I’m telling you, if you don’t drive her out of the Governor’s Mansion, I won’t marry you. You decide."
"No, no, Rong Rong, don’t be like this. After all, she is my grandmother’s adopted granddaughter, technically, she is my sister, and now she’s ill. I can’t be too hard on her, right?"
The young woman said disdainfully, "Don’t play the good guy in front of me. You have done worse before—what’s driving her out of the house to you? Remembering how vicious you were to her, I fear the same for myself. I don’t care, but you must drive her out of Mansion tomorrow morning. As for your grandparents, I will help you to speak with them. Given the relationship between my grandfather and them, they should save us some face."
"Alright, alright. My little Miss. Tomorrow morning, I’ll drive her away. Don’t worry, in the future, I will be good to you."
The familiar voices of the man and the woman reached Ah Dai’s ears, reminding him of having heard them somewhere before. Especially the man’s voice caught his attention. Frowning, Ah Dai moved silently to the eaves of the room where the sounds came from, ensuring that no one noticed his presence. Driven by curiosity, he carefully lifted a rooftop tile and peered inside. This was the first time he had seen such a situation, and his heart beat started to race. He quickly turned his head away and glanced in the room again. To his surprise, he actually knew these two people. The man was the young man in white he had met in Duru City before, and the woman was Rong Rong, the granddaughter of Governor Fagle. Ah Dai was taken aback, thinking, how were they together? That young man in white was called Tiro. Where was the young girl who used to be with him, weren’t they a couple?
An idea flashed in his mind, and considering the conversation just now, Ah Dai suddenly realized who they were referring to—the girl with Tiro who had given him some money. What was Tiro doing in the Governor’s Mansion in Mica Province? Did he have some connection with this place? A sense of foreboding arose from the bottom of Ah Dai’s heart. He thought he had figured something out, yet he dared not be certain.
Suddenly, Ah Dai heard another sound in the Governor’s Mansion, a mournful voice. "Miss, Miss, please wake up!"
Startled, this voice seemed to tug at Ah Dai’s heart. He instinctively shot into the air towards where the sound came from. The voice came from a small room in the corner of the Mansion, where a young girl’s cries echoed, but it was ignored because of its remote location. Ah Dai landed on the rooftop, dropped from the eaves, and looked inside the room. He saw a young girl dressed in a long pink gown with two braids hanging loosely down her head, crying face down on the bed. From her side, she looked rather delicate. Ah Dai’s eyes turned to the bed, and he was suddenly shaken. The girl on the bed was the one he had seen with Tiro in Duru Province previously. However, her face was now extremely pale, and she no longer had the lively spirit she once had. Seeing the girl in this state, Ah Dai felt like his heart was being crushed by a big stone. Pushing off the eaves with the tip of his toes, he flew through the window and landed softly behind the girl in pink.
Caught in sadness, the girl in pink didn’t notice someone had appeared behind her and continued crying. Ah Dai looked at Tifya, whose face was deathly pale on the bed, and felt a pang in his heart. From Tifya’s feeble breath, Ah Dai could clearly tell she was in critical condition, possibly dying at any moment. "What happened to her?"
Ah Dai’s low voice startled the girl in pink. She turned around to scream, only to be muffled by Ah Dai muffling her mouth. Ah Dai said quietly, "Don’t shout; I mean no harm. I’m her friend. Tell me, what happened to her?"
