Chapter 395: Chapter 84: Mage Guild_4
The Elf Queen was silent. She was not a narrow-minded mother. She clearly understood that if she were in Xing Er’s shoes, she would probably fall in love with kindhearted Ah Dai unconditionally. However, Xing Er was the princess of the Elf Clan. Her life no longer entirely belonged to herself. To maintain the purity of the Elf King’s bloodline and uphold the continuation of this paradise, the Elf King lineage must not intermarry with other races.
Sighing gently, the Elf Queen drew Xing Er into her embrace, whispering, "Child, I understand the feeling of loving someone. Ah Dai is indeed worth your love. However, I must solemnly tell you that this love of yours must remain hidden deep in your heart. You know that you are my sole heir, the next Elf Queen. You and Ah Dai cannot be together. Even if you disregard all the factors, including the issues of age and racial differences, you also can’t be with Ah Dai for the sake of the tens of thousands in our Elf Clan! We of the Elf King lineage must devote everything for our clan. We can’t allow our personal feelings to impact the clan’s inheritance. Do you understand?"
Xing Er’s body shook violently. Her mother’s words struck her spirit like a sharp blade. She knew that all her mother said was real, but none of it could change her longing for Ah Dai. She could only vent her emotions by crying uncontrollably.
After a long while, Xing Er’s weeping ceased. She slowly lifted her head, her eyes red and swollen from tears. She softly asked, "Mother, is it worth it to give up my beloved for the sake of our clan?"
The Elf Queen never expected her daughter to have such thoughts. Her face immediately turned stern as she said sharply, "Xing Er, this is not a question of worth. It’s not something you compare. For our clan, you must let go of your feelings for Ah Dai, do you understand? You know the history of our Elf Clan. One of our former kings nearly annihilated our entire race because of his love for a human. In the end, he was restored to normal by the Soul Forgotten Magic administered by the Elf Clan elders. Do you want me to use this magic on you? It will reduce your life span by a hundred years, and the pain of forgetting everything may be more than you can bear."
Xing Er’s delicate body trembled slightly. She shook her head vehemently and said, "Mother, I understand. I will give up everything for our clan. You don’t have to use the Soul Forgotten Magic on me. I have one request - I want Ah Dai’s image to remain in the depth of my heart. Xing Er can’t be with Ah Dai, but I can love him silently and bless him. This is Xing Er’s only wish."
The Elf Queen finally understood why Ah Dai chose to leave. Her daughter’s feelings for Ah Dai were deeper than she thought. It was something she couldn’t change. She knew that the feelings of the Elf Clan were the most devoted. Once they loved someone, it would be hard to change. Now, she could only hope that time would dilute everything. Xing Er was still young, it was not yet time for her to marry. Perhaps, in a hundred years, she would forget about Ah Dai.
After five days of travel, Ah Dai finally crossed the grassland and entered the Duru Province of the Empire of Tian Jing. He didn’t want to think about anything, he was getting closer and closer to the Illusive Forest, to meeting Master Goris. Ah Dai’s heart was boiling, he hardly stopped traveling. In just one day, he had arrived at the capital of Duru Province - Duru City.
After seeing the grand city of Sunset, Duru City seemed small to Ah Dai, covering only a few thousand square kilometers. After a day of travel, Ah Dai felt tired. Though it was nearing evening, Duru city was still bustling. Ah Dai touched his empty stomach, wishing he could find a place to enjoy a meal. His plans were disrupted by the magician he had met 5 days ago. After finding out that the Mage Guild of the Empire of Tian Jing was not organisationally tied up with the continental Mage Guild, he let go of the idea of collecting his monthly stipend. But the food supplies he had brought from the Ya Yan Clan were all gone and he had no money. Who would feed him then? Ah Dai felt helpless, and it was as though he was returning to his days in Nino Small Town, where he would go cold and hungry. Did he have to resort to fish thieving again for survival? No, no matter what, he could not resort back to being a thief. Ah, first, he should rest. Then he would look for places where laborers were needed, earn some coin, and go back to the Illusive Forest to find Master Goris. As he thought, he sat down by a remote path. He had not bathed for some time, and the strange smell on his body was bothersome even to him. He looked at his slightly torn clothes, shook his head helplessly, leaned against the wall behind, watched the bustling crowd, and his mind turned blank.
He didn’t know how long he had zoned out when the jingling sound of coins brought him back to his senses. He discovered that a few copper coins had appeared before him. As he lifted his head, he saw a man and a woman had appeared before him. The woman was around one meter seventy, approximately eighteen or nineteen years old, with the same black hair and eyes as him. She was pretty, wearing an elegant pink dress, looking at him with a soft gaze. Her small hand was hooked on the man’s arm beside her. Seeing him looking at her, she said gently, "Take this money to buy some steamed buns. You must be very hungry."
