Chapter 329: Chapter 72 Marchioness_1

"Brother, lower your voice. If our master hears you, you won’t escape unscathed."

"I’m not scared at all. His fortune is almost squandered, he can’t even afford bodyguards. If he doesn’t give me my wage soon, I’ll find another job. It’d be great to be a coachman at the Marchioness Mansion. Have you seen how arrogant their coachmen are? They act as if they were nobles too."

"Alright, brother, stop complaining. Their conditions are much better than ours. The Marchioness is super wealthy! That’s the power of backing."

Upon hearing this, Ah Dai turned to them and said: "Seems like the Marchioness is hosting some sort of banquet. Those coachmen are brought by the guests."

Yan Shi thought for a moment, "Since there’s a banquet, the security is likely to be tighter. Let’s wait a bit. Once the guests leave, the guards will be more relaxed and we can sneak in."

Zhuo Yun nodded in agreement, "That’s a good idea, let’s wait it out."

A glint of joy flashed across Yan Shi’s eyes. He gave Zhuo Yun a glance and shifted his gaze back to the mansion. The four of them quietly waited on the tree.

Two hours had passed, late into the night. Yan Li grew impatient and was about to suggest taking action when the mansion’s main gate swung open. The wide drawbridge lowered and several people stumbled out in laughter. They were dressed glamorously, both male and female, all seemingly drunk and wobbling. The four were pleased to see the lax attention. Immediately their spirits perked up. The nobles, escorted by bodyguards, left in their carriages. The mansion fell quiet again. The guards extinguished half their torches, and there seemed to be fewer patrolling. Yan Shi said in a low voice, "Let’s move."

The four quietly slid down from the tree, put on their prepared black coats and snuck towards the corner outside the wall. Ah Dai said, "I’ll go first." His skills were the highest and it would be safer for him to advance first. After signaling the others, Ah Dai gently floated up like a leaf and landed on the railing. Noticing there were no guards around, he signaled the others before alighting in the garden.

Yan Shi, his brother, and Zhuo Yun followed close behind him. Just then, a group of guards headed in their direction. The four quickly hid in the bushes. As the guards walked by on the stone path, they sighed with relief. Yan Li attempted to move but was stopped by Ah Dai. Confused, he looked at Ah Dai.

Ah Dai pointed towards his feet and Yan Li looked down. He noticed a thin thread attached to a few small bells. Ah Dai had spotted the trap by the guards’ torch light, shimmering off the tripwire.

Yan Shi whispered, "It seems the Marchioness has quite a few tricks up her sleeves, we need to be careful."

Ah Dai sent a message to Yan Shi, "Big Brother, these guards aren’t that strong. Maybe we could just break in. They can’t stop us."

Before Yan Shi could reply, Zhuo Yun interjected, "No, calm down brother. I want to rescue our clansman as soon as possible too, but remember the lesson learned in Dark City? If we are discovered, the Marchioness could call the city’s soldiers. We might end up in a dire situation again."

Ah Dai nodded his head, "Okay Sister, I will listen to you."

Yan Shi smiled and said, "Besides, given the Marchioness’s vast wealth, she must have hired strong people to protect this place. We don’t know what’s inside the castle. Better be careful. The best case scenario would be to rescue the Elves without anyone knowing."

A glint of coldness flashed through Ah Dai’s eyes. "Humph, no one in the Sunset Empire is good. I wonder how many people the Marchioness has harmed."

Feeling the rashness radiating off Ah Dai, Yan Shi furrowed his brows and worried, "Alright, let’s go. Ah Dai, you go first and be careful."

Ah Dai nodded, heightened his senses to the maximum and moved carefully towards the castle, in the midst of elegant flowers and plants. Various traps were set up everywhere. If not for Ah Dai’s exceptional vision, they would have been discovered. After about half an hour, they arrived at the river bank outside the castle.

Looking at the towering castle, Ah Dai said, "Big Brother, look, only the top room is lit. The Marchioness should be in there."

Following where Ah Dai pointed at, Yan Shi noticed the light coming out from the top room of the castle while the rest remained dark. He nodded, "It should be there."

Ah Dai said, "I’ll go check it out first, you guys stay back and be my lookouts." Saying this, he took off his coat to reveal the Giant Spirit Snake Scale Armor underneath.

Yan Shi had no better plan, he nodded and said, "Be careful. If you are discovered, don’t resist. We will retreat and figure out a new plan."
