Chapter 254: Chapter 56: The City Lord of City of Light_2

Yan Li shook his head and said, "Let’s try to find out first. The rescued members of the Elf Clan might know the exact number. Even if they don’t know, as long as we rescue Elf Princess Xing’er first, the mission would be primarily accomplished. As for the other elves, we can deal with them later."

As Ah Dai was about to respond, two individuals approached from the direction of the front yard. One of them was Chairman Kary of the Mage Guild, and the other was a middle-aged man neither he nor Yan Li had previously met. The man was clad in a white robe, although plainly dressed, an imposing and austere aura emanated from him. From him, Ah Dai could sense an air of ruthlessness.

Seeing Ah Dai, Kary greeted cheerfully, "Ah Dai, how are your injuries? What a coincidence, I was just looking for you."

Ah Dai quickly responded, "Thank you for your concern, Chairman Kary. My injuries have mostly healed. Do you need me for something?"

Kary turned towards the man he accompanied, introducing, "Let me introduce you. This is Lord Aldos, the City Lord of the City of Light. He not only rules over the City of Light but also serves as the governor of the entire Province of Light. Aldos, this is the young hero, Ah Dai, from the Tian Gang Sword Sect I’ve been telling you about. He has done a great favor for our guild!"

Aldos scrutinized Ah Dai from head to toe. At first glance, the slightly shy young man before him didn’t appear out of the ordinary. However, upon closer inspection, Ah Dai had an indescribable charm about him. His honest and simple demeanor immediately endeared him to Aldos, who smiled and said, "Thanks for helping Brother Kary, Ah Dai. If not for you, my job as the City Lord of the City of Light would have been difficult."

Ah Dai scratched his head and replied, "Nice to meet you, Lord Aldos. I’m just doing my part as a member of the Mage Guild. Besides, the assassins of the Assassin’s Guild have killed my uncle. I wish I could wipe them out."

Kary suggested, "Let’s go to my place for a chat." Within these past few days, under Aldos’s command, the garrisons of the Province of Light have constantly been shifting towards the border between the Empire of Huasheng and the Empire of Sunset City. At the same time, he reported the attack on the Mage Guild to the higher-ups of the Empire of Huasheng. Emperor Lier of the Empire was enraged, but due to the lack of sufficient evidence that the Empire of Sunset City was behind the attack, he only ordered that the garrisons of several provinces bordering Sunset City be mobilized, ready to meet the Empire’s potential aggression. The conduct of the Empire’s troops greatly impacted due to the attack on the Mage Guild. Kary was not idle either. Over the last two days, he’s been using his status as the Chairman of the Guild to issue orders to all Mage Guilds on the continent, asking them to gather and await further orders. Despite their generally leisurely lifestyle, the mages lived off the guild’s salary, so when the guild encountered issues, they were obliged to support it. With the Mage Guild’s unusual actions, some unrest began to stir within the continent, allowing long-brewing undercurrents to flow more rapidly.

Upon arrival at Kary’s residence with Aldos and Ah Dai, the surroundings weren’t as extravagant as one would expect of the Headquarters’ chairman of the Mage Guild. Although the room was large, there wasn’t any distinctive decoration, just a large bookshelf, a table, a big bed, and a few chairs.

Upon stepping into the room, Ah Dai was immediately attracted to the magical books on the bookshelf, his eyes showing a hint of eagerness. As a Magus himself and the Chairman of the Mage Guild, Kary naturally held a collection of rare, precious books. Seeing Ah Dai’s interest in his collection, Kary proudly remarked, "I have a lot of unique magical books here, Ah Dai. If you’re interested, feel free to take a look."

At first, Ah Dai felt delighted, but then he remembered his imminent departure and could only shake his head, saying, "Thank you, Chairman Kary. But I’m afraid I won’t have the opportunity to borrow them. We’ll be leaving tomorrow morning, heading to the Empire of Sunset City. We came here today to bid you farewell."

Kary asked, surprised, "What’s the rush? Stay at the Guild for a few more days. I was hoping for an opportunity to share magic experiences with you."

Ah Dai replied helplessly, "I’d love to learn from you, but we must resolve an urgent matter as soon as possible. So, I can only apologize. By the way, Chairman Kary, was the assassin, who attacked the Guild that day, caught?" His question made Aldos a bit awkward, "Those assassins are indeed cunning. Although my troops managed to track them down, the Dark Magicians were not weak and managed to escape. The few assassins we did capture committed suicide." Mentioning this made Aldos feel irritated. Nearly a thousand of his men had intercepted the assassins, but at a loss of three hundred men, they allowed all five Dark Magicians to escape while the assassins they’d captured had all killed themselves. If not for his close relationship with Kary, he had no idea how he would explain it to him.

Kary patted Aldos’s shoulder, saying, "Those guys came prepared. Even if we had captured them, I fear we wouldn’t have obtained much information. Dark Magicians are rare now, and their magic is indeed powerful. Rest assured, once they’ve shown themselves this time, their future days won’t be easy. The Sacrifice Hall within the city reported to the church about these blasphemers, and the Church will handle it. I believe, after they escape back, they wouldn’t dare to appear anytime soon. What worries me is the number of Dark Magicians. If their numbers are large, it’s going to be tough to deal with them. Apart from Church’s Light Magic, ordinary magic is hard-pressed to counter them."
