Chapter 184: Chapter 41 Between Embarrassment_5
Yan Shi slightly smiled and said, "Don’t worry, it’s fine. We just need to clear out a small area, then make a fire in the center of it. Moreover, it’s September now, so the air in the mountains is moist and it won’t catch fire easily."
Ah Dai said, "Let’s make a fire then. I’ll take care of it."
After a short while, they gathered a load of wood and piled it up on a cleared area of a small hillside. Ah Dai used a basic Flame Spell to dry the wood first, then lit it up. The bonfire brought them warmth and light; they all sat around it, their faces glowing red in the firelight, feeling warmed in body and heart. They toasted the steamed buns Xuan Yue had brought over the fire to fill their bellies – hot buns tasted a lot better cold. Except for Xuan Yue, the rest enjoyed the food.
"Who dares to make a fire in the mountains?" a loud voice suddenly came through the woods.
The four of them were startled. They each grabbed their own weapons, now always on guard after dealing with the Elf Clan. In Xuan Yue’s hand, the Angel Wand glowed with white light, ready to cast support magic onto the three of them at any moment.
A dark figure swooped out and landed not far in front of them. This man was about twenty, stood around 1.8 meters tall, had thick eyebrows, tiger-eye-like eyes, a straight nose, and square mouth. There was a strong spirit between his brows. A broad longsword was strapped to his back. He glared at them, "Where are you from, daring to make a fire in the woods? Don’t you know it’s dangerous?"
From the man’s outfit, Yan Shi knew he was from the Tian Gang Sword Sect and was thrilled. He said, "Presumably, you’re from Tian Gang Sword Sect, brother. We were planning to visit Teacher Xi Wen up in Tian Gang Mountain but we got lost in the forest. It was too cold at night, so we had no choice but to make this fire. Look around, we’ve cleared the vegetation and there’s no risk of causing a forest fire."
Hearing Yan Shi call Xi Wen "teacher", the young man’s face changed. His anger disappeared and he asked somewhat puzzled, "You want to meet our Sect Leader? May I ask why?" It turned out that this was a disciple of Xi Wen.
"I’m Yan Shi from the Pu Yan Clan, mentored by Teacher Xi Wen when I was a child. Now we are heading to the Empire of Sunset City, passing the Tian Gang mountains, and decided to pay him a visit on our way. It’s been many years since I last saw him. I wonder if Teacher Xi Wen is still well? According to you, Teacher Xi Wen has become the Sect Leader of the Tian Gang Sword Sect, could it be, could it be that Sword Saint of the Tian Gang ..."
The young man smiled slightly, "Don’t you guess randomly, our Great Ancestor Master is very healthy. He has been cultivating in the Sect due to his old age, so the sect leader’s position was passed on to my tutor. Since you know my tutor, follow me then. I am Liao Yi, a fourth-generation disciple. I will take you to meet my grandfather. And about the fire, it’s a big no-no in the mountains! Mountain winds can get very strong at night, if a spark gets blown into the forest, causing a forest fire, it would be a disaster."
They quickly put out the fire. Ah Dai said, "We’re really sorry, we just did it because it was too cold. Is Tian Gang Mountain far from here?"
Liao Yi smiled and said, "Not far now. I came out to patrol the mountain. People like you, who dare to light fires in the mountain, worry me. We just need to go over two more mountains from here to reach the Tian Gang Main Peak, but the peak has a high altitude, so we’ll probably only reach the top by dawn."
Seeing the look of worry on Ah Dai’s face, considering that Xuan Yue might not be able to withstand the cold. Xuan Yue didn’t have to climb the mountain herself, but how would Ah Dai rest assured with the cold night weather? He quickly said, "Big brother, we’ve been traveling all day and we’re all quite tired. Why don’t we rest for the night and continue in the morning? The night dew is very cold, if we push too hard we might end up hurting ourselves."
Upon hearing Ah Dai’s words, Liao Yi couldn’t help but look down on him a little and said, "We’re all warriors, this bit of cold isn’t anything. If we hurry, maybe we’ll reach the top before dawn and can rest then."
Being as smart as Xuan Yue, she naturally caught Liao Yi’s thoughts and snorted, "Let’s go now. Rest? Since when did we think climbing a mountain was such a big deal?" Since the bonfire went out, it affected their vision. Liao Yi did not see Xuan Yue’s face clearly. He realised right away that was aimed at himself. His heart was shocked, and he blamed himself for his irritation. If his tutor found out, he would surely be scolded. He did not refute, just waiting for Ah Dai’s answer with a smile on his face.
Ah Dai walked to Xuan Yue and whispered quietly, "Yue Yue, traveling in the night will be cold."
