Chapter 1129: Chapter 84 Mage Guild_5
Gazing at her gentle eyes, Ah Dai couldn’t help feeling like crying, realizing that he had fallen so low to be regarded as a beggar—sigh—no wonder Xuan Ye looked down on him. Perhaps, he was destined to live such a humble life. Seeing that Ah Dai had no reaction, the girl thought he wanted more money and took out a handful of copper coins, squatting down and placing them next to Ah Dai’s feet. Ah Dai saw those familiar, clear eyes filled with kindness. The girl softly said, "These should be enough for you to spend for a few days. You’re young, it would be better to find some decent work instead, begging is no way to live!"
The man accompanying the girl was in his mid-twenties, tall, and clad in white noble’s attire that signified his high status. His golden hair was meticulously combed, and his brows carried a hint of arrogance; a decorative longsword hung by his waist, indicating his formidable martial arts skills. He pulled the girl up with a touch of disgust, "Freya, let’s go. Why bother talking so much to this beggar? If he were willing to put in the effort, he wouldn’t have ended up like this."
The girl looked at Ah Dai with an apologetic gaze, and then hooked her arm again around that man’s, as the two walked off into the distance. Ah Dai faintly heard the girl saying, "Why are you always like this? Not everyone is born wanting to be a beggar. Have you forgotten my past? Let’s help a little where we can."
The man said, "There are so many thieves and beggars in the world, can you help them all? You are just too kind. Come on, the City Lord is waiting for us to have dinner." As he spoke, the two gradually walked away. Ah Dai felt his senses blur; the girl’s soft voice and clear eyes seemed so familiar. Why did he feel this way? He could never know such noble young ladies. Like Yue Yue, they all had unapproachable statuses. Picking up a cold copper coin from the ground, it seemed to still carry the lingering fragrance of the girl’s hand. Ah Dai held the copper coins in his palm, the tens of them seemingly mocking him too. "Beggar, I’ve upgraded again, from a thief to a beggar." Ah Dai casually flung his hand, and the handful of copper coins trailed faint glints of cold light, embedding into the wall across with a series of thuds. He glanced in the direction the girl had left, turned his back, and went in the opposite direction.
With a despondent heart, Ah Dai strolled slowly through the streets of Duru City. It was dinner time, and delicious aromas wafted continuously from the numerous taverns lining the road, the scent of food constantly igniting his hunger. Unintentionally, he arrived in front of a large building. Looking up, he saw the insignia of the Mercenary Guild carved on the structure. A thought struck Ah Dai—he might not be able to collect a monthly salary from the Mage Guild, but he was still a mercenary! With his skills, taking on some simple tasks should be easy. With that thought, he walked straight into the Mercenary Guild.
Since it was already late, there were not many people inside the Mercenary Guild. Ah Dai walked directly to the counter, ready to take on a task.
Behind the counter stood a young woman who, upon seeing Ah Dai’s disheveled appearance, disdainfully said, "You want to be a mercenary too? Being a mercenary requires real skills."
