Chapter 246: Killing Demon Spirits
Tang Yin did not move physically. Instead, he directed his divine sense to wrap around the Demon Spirit. His divine sense did not spread out, it was concentrated into a thread.
The thread of divine sense wrapped around the Mid-tier Soldier Rank Demon Spirit, it did not even get a chance to resist.
Tang Yin swiftly yanked back his divine sense. The Demon Spirit was flung back to him.
Tang Yin tried to place his hand on the Demon Spirit’s head, however, it passed right through. ’It seems I won’t be able to use Soul Plunder.’
Tang Yin wiped off the Demon Spirit’s conscious instincts.
One could use their divine sense to enter the mind of another individual and erase their consciousness or directly destroy their soul. It could be considered a divine sense attack. However, the strength disparity between the attacker and the target had to be huge.
The Demon Spirit was essentially just a soul. Attacking it with his divine sense would completely destroy it. Tang Yin made sure to only erase whatever tiny consciousness it had formed, its instincts.
The Demon Spirit was reduced to just a bundle of white soul force after having its consciousness wiped off by Tang Yin’s divine sense.
A seemingly simple abyssal wind blew past the bundle of soul force, sweeping it up and returning to Tang Yin’s body.
After the bundle of soul force was purified and converted into pure Soul Energy, Tang Yin utilized the Soul Refinement Technique to absorb it into his soul.
Although his soul’s strength only increased by a fraction, it confirmed Tang Yin’s hypothesis.
’It works! I can erase the instincts of a Demon Spirit with my divine sense and have the Heaven Devouring Abyss purify whatever is left of the Demon Spirit, then I can absorb it with the Soul Refinement Technique to strengthen my soul.’ Tang Yin excitedly thought to himself. Spending just a day inside the Demon Spirit Cavern could allow him to increase the power of his soul by leaps and bounds.
Tang Yin even had the urge to spend the rest of the week inside the Demon Spirit Cavern. However, he suppressed this urge. He could obtain much more benefits by killing and plundering other cultivators. He did not forget his original goal.
The increment in strength to his soul was negligible. This was largely due to the fact that the Demon Spirit he had devoured was just a Soldier Rank Demon Spirit. If he wanted to truly increase his soul’s strength, Tang Yin would need to Devour at least Marshal Rank Demon Spirits or higher.
Tang Yin surveyed the Demon Spirit Cavern. He could see many lights flickering everywhere, these were Demon Spirits. However, these were all the weak Demon Spirits in the Soldier and General Ranks.
This was the outskirts of the Demon Spirit Cavern after all. If Tang Yin wanted to find Marshal Rank and stronger Demon Spirits, he would need to venture deeper into the Demon Spirit Cavern.
Although the weak Soldier and General Rank Demon Spirits could not increase the strength of Tang Yin’s soul by a substantial amount, Tang Yin still decided to kill any he encountered. In fact, he even made the effort to travel to any nearby ones just to slaughter them.
The reason for this was simple, he wanted to become accustomed to devouring Demon Spirits. Only then would he be confident in devouring stronger Demon Spirits.
As Tang Yin progressed further into the Demon Spirit Cavern, he devoured hundreds of Soldier and General Rank Demon Spirits. Every individual Demon Spirit provided a tiny quantity of soul force, but when accumulated, even Tang Yin had to admit that it was not a low amount of soul force.
As for the method he utilized to kill the Demon Spirits, it was with his divine sense. He directly erased their conscious instincts and devoured them. He gave the Demon Spirits no room to resist.
Another factor that came into play was the Demon Spirit’s strength. Soldier Rank Demon Spirits were equivalent to Spirit Channelling Realm cultivators, whereas General Rank Demon Spirits were equivalent to Physique Transformation Realm cultivators.
With his Late-stage Spirit Ascension Realm battle prowess, Tang Yin barely needed to exert any effort into devouring the Demon Spirits.
As Tang Yin headed deeper into the Demon Spirit Cavern, he started to encounter Commander Rank Demon Spirits. They weren’t too strong, they possessed the same strength as Spirit Vein Condensation Realm cultivators.
Tang Yin was able to easily kill them with minimum effort. He also noticed that the amount of soul force contained inside a Commander Rank Demon Spirit was tens of times more than a General Rank Demon Spirit.
Nevertheless, this was still not much for the current Tang Yin, he need much more than this.
Tang Yin had limited time, he did not stay for too long in the Commander Rank area, and he ventured further into the Demon Spirit Cavern. Before long, he finally encountered Marshal Rank Demon Spirits. They were equivalent to Qi Transformation Realm cultivators.
With the power of Tang Yin’s divine sense, the Marshal Rank Demon Spirits were unable to put up a fight, he easily devoured them. The increment of strength received from a Marshal Rank Demon Spirit was abundant.
The power of Tang Yin’s soul would reach the strength of a Peak-stage Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator once he devoured 10 more Marshal Rank Demon Spirits.
Naturally, Tang Yin was still in the Early-stage of the Spirit Ascension Realm. However, he could immediately reach the Late-stage of the Spirit Ascension Realm whenever he wished.
This was the power of the Soul Refinement Technique. Realms and Stages were just numerical measurements. It did not necessarily apply to Tang Yin.
He may appear as an Early-stage Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator, but the power of his soul was on par with Late-stage Spirit Ascension Realm cultivators.
Tang Yin did not stay for long in the Marshal Rank area either. He headed straight to the Lord Rank Demon Spirit area.
Lord Rank Demon Spirits were on par with Spirit Ascension Realm cultivators!
Tang Yin mainly targeted Low-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirits.
He utilized the Phantom Steps to sneak up behind one before violently throwing all of his divine sense at the Lord Rank Demon Spirit.
The Low-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirit was stunned. The white light flickering inside it flashed, it somehow managed to ward off Tang Yin’s divine sense. However, a few moments later, the protection from the white light vanished.
Tang Yin’s divine sense rushed towards the Low-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirit like raging sea waves. The Demon Spirit was completely overwhelmed, before it could resist, its consciousness was erased.
Tang Yin pounced on the Demon Spirit, devouring it instantly. All of the Soul Energy he had wasted in that earlier attack was replenished, not to mention his soul was strengthened by a large amount.
Tang Yin basked in that warm feeling which shrouded his soul. After devouring every last shred of that Low-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirit, Tang Yin’s eyes glimmered.
’My soul has finally become powerful enough to rival those of Peak-stage Spirit Ascension Realm cultivators.’ Tang Yin clenched his fist. The risk of coming to the Demon Spirt Cavern had paid off. He had barely been endangered, not to mention all of these benefits he was currently reaping.
Suddenly Tang Yin’s ears perked up. He looked towards the west.
’I hear the sound of battle. It’s not Demon Spirits, it sounds more like a cultivator.’ After a moment of contemplation, Tang Yin decided to check it out.
He sneakily used the Phantom Steps to approach the area where these strange sounds were coming from. He hid behind a large pillar which towered into the high ceiling.
A couple of hundred meters forward, a battle was ensuing between 2 entities.
One of the entities was a High-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirit. It was 20 feet tall, with a vicious face. It had long sharp claws which could rip through anything. Its teeth were razor sharp, and it was quite plump.
Its opponent was... a cultivator!
It was an old man with grey hair and slight wrinkles on his face, he wore the robes of the Celestial Demon Sect. From what Tang Yin could see, he was a Late-stage Spirit Ascension Realm cultivator.
’He was one of the 19 cultivators I entered the Exotic Enclosure Region with. He’s a disciple of the Celestial Demon Sect.’ Tang Yin vaguely remembered this old man being present among the Celestial Demon Sect’s disciples on Grand Elder Shi’s Demonic Ghost Serpent.
’He must’ve either been tasked by the Celestial Demon Sect to collect some Demon Spirits or he came here of his own violation due to greed, he must have a use for these Demon Spirits.’ Tang Yin pondered.
Nevertheless, it did not matter. Tang Yin did not care about the Celestial Demon Sect. Whether their disciples died or survived had nothing to do with him. However, if he could obtain benefits by killing one, he would definitely do so.
A murderous glint shone in Tang Yin’s eyes as he watched the Celestial Demon Sect disciple fight the Mid-tier Lord Rank Demon Spirit. He had decided to kill him!
