Chapter 410: Chapter 410: Found Sheng An!

The other two looked to be about the same age as Su Wan.

One of them had delicate eyebrows and eyes and seemed a bit timid, not daring to speak up.

The other, a woman with wavy long hair, was much livelier.

She flipped her long hair and said with a smile, "Steward Li, is being able to sing and dance considered a special skill?"

Her figure was quite impressive.

She quickly caught the attention of Steward Li.

It was Su Wan who spoke, "Steward Li, could you tell us what the three types of jobs are?"

Though the first curly-haired woman had attracted his attention,

After all, Su Wan was the most beautiful of the three.

He didn’t rush to take the curly-haired woman away but said patiently, "There are three types of jobs. The first is to cook for the City Lord’s kitchen; there’s a banquet coming up, and they need extra hands. This one is the easiest because there are already two chefs there. You’d just be doing some simple tasks, and the benefits and compensation are the highest."

"The second is to help out in the canteen, where they are short-staffed. It might be a bit tiring, but it’s still manageable."

"The last one is to prepare and deliver meals to the guests."

Hearing this, the first two jobs seemed understandable.

But why was the last one ranked after the canteen?

Seeing her confusion, Steward Li said with a smile and a squint, "Because our guests are quite terrifying. Some of them even eat people!"

As expected, after hearing this, both the curly-haired woman and the other delicate-looking woman were scared stiff.

But Su Wan’s eyes lit up!

She had a feeling that these ’guests’ might be related to her missing companions!

In the end, the curly-haired woman followed Steward Li to the City Lord’s kitchen, while the delicate-looking woman went to the canteen.

Steward Li didn’t give up, still hinting at Su Wan.

"I’ll give you one last chance. If you regret taking this job after one day, come find me immediately, and I will find a way to transfer you."

Su Wan didn’t say a word.

When she was assigned to the prison... yes, those so-called ’guests’ were actually locked up in cells.

The kitchen here had only one woman about the same age as Sister Li, named Sister Sun.

Sister Sun was very burly, and her voice was very hoarse, as if her throat had been injured.

Su Wan indeed saw a wound on her neck.

As soon as Sister Sun saw Su Wan, she was speechless.

"I told them to recruit a man this time, someone with a bit more courage, not some frail girl who wouldn’t even be enough to stick between the guests’ teeth!"

She grumbled for a while, but after Steward Li left Su Wan there and walked away with the curly-haired woman,

Sister Sun understood the situation completely.

She turned to look at Su Wan and finally sighed.

"Forget it, you seem like a rather honest girl. I’ll go deliver the meals later; can you cook?"

Su Wan: "I can cook, Sister Sun. I can also deliver the meals."

Sister Sun shook her head, "Have you seen the wound on my neck? It was bitten by those guests! They are beasts!"

Recalling the incident, Sister Sun was still quite frightened.

Su Wan looked at her neck and knew that if the other party had wanted Sister Sun’s life, she would have had no chance of survival.

Beasts hunt by biting through the neck in one go.

Beasts?

A bad premonition suddenly surged in Su Wan’s heart!

But she kept her composure and busied herself helping Sister Sun with the work.

The first time they were to deliver meals to the ’guests,’ Su Wan took the initiative, "Sister Sun, let me go with you. I’ll follow behind and watch. If it really doesn’t work out, then we’ll see. What if I can handle it?"

Sister Sun found the young woman to be good at her work, diligent, and down-to-earth.

She also seemed quite brave.

She had no choice but to reluctantly nod her head.

Even though she had mentally prepared herself, Su Wan still froze at the sight of the half-human half-beast creatures in the rooms, the windows of which were sealed with iron bars!

Moreover, as she approached these rooms, Su Wan could clearly feel her spiritual power starting to fluctuate and become unstable!

Her mermaid tail almost transformed uncontrollably!

Fortunately, Su Wan used tremendous self-control and her powerful spiritual power to keep her body in check and prevent further Beast Transformation.

Sister Sun, thinking that Su Wan was just scared, said softly, "Guest is just a polite term, they are all monsters, very dangerous ones!"

Monsters...

So Beastmen are called monsters!

Su Wan was furious inside.

But on her face appeared a look of fear.

"If they are so dangerous, why are they kept in Central City? Wouldn’t it be safer to send them away?"

Sister Sun shook her head.

She really liked Xiaosu, so after looking around cautiously, she finally said in a low voice, "It’s said that only with these ’guests’ can we maintain the protective shield over our city."

"What protective shield?"

"You don’t know about this? Without the protective shield, all of us would die! Enough, let’s not talk more, get on with work."

Su Wan nodded.

The ’guests’ behind the iron bars were all looking very agitated.

Fortunately, as long as some distance was kept and she didn’t get too close, it wasn’t a problem.

Su Wan even saw a pair of wings that looked very familiar behind one of the iron bars!

Those large black wings enfolded the person within them.

But Su Wan instinctively felt that it was Sheng An!

She took a deep breath and tried hard to keep her expression unchanged, following behind Sister Sun the entire time.

However, due to understaffing, Sister Sun had Su Wan deliver food to some of the more docile ’guests.’

Su Wan recognized several familiar faces.

But their states were all quite strange; they seemed as if they did not recognize Su Wan.

They didn’t speak.

Su Wan called their names, but there was no response.

Also, Su Wan did not see Pandora!

She kept thinking that later, when she returned to where Sheng An was confined, she would ask about it.

But when Su Wan got to the last room, she found out that a woman and a lion were confined inside!

This lion was different from the ones Su Wan had seen previously in circuses.

Those eyes, when they looked at the woman, were filled with emotion!

It was as if they held human emotions!

However, perhaps sensing Su Wan’s arrival, the lion suddenly bared its teeth at her from behind the door!

Su Wan realized that the other party was merely warning her.

It had no intention of harming her.

The woman inside also noticed Su Wan; upon seeing Su Wan place the food down, she said softly, "Thank you."

This was the first ’guest’ to speak!

Most importantly, Su Wan felt that this woman, who seemed to be in her forties or fifties, looked somewhat familiar!

She quickly asked, "Why are Beastmen being kept here?"

The woman’s hand, which had come over to pick up the food, paused slightly.

Raising her head, her originally gentle gaze turned scrutinizing.

"Who are you?"
