Chapter 120: Chapter 120: A Familiar Person
’Knowing there’s a secret but I can’t ask about it... isn’t this going to drive me crazy with curiosity?’
"How could she possibly dream of Huaxia?"
Song Jiulai stared at the two words, but she didn’t feel the warmth of seeing familiar script in this Otherworld.
Only an indescribable—
"What’s there to be afraid of? If the sky falls, won’t I be here to hold it up?" the system’s voice cut through Song Jiulai’s thoughts. "Besides, if you’re done for, so am I."
"I know, I know," Song Jiulai said, her eyes still on the two words. "I’m just curious. Liu Yao... could she be the master of this Secret Realm? What was her Realm? If this is a Secret Realm that only those in the Qi Refinement Realm can enter, does that mean she perished long ago?"
The system replied, "That’s possible. It’s a shame we don’t know anyone else. Why don’t you go grab Lü Rufeng and Yi Tianhe and ask them?"
Song Jiulai said, "...You’re even more arrogant than I am. Still, I do regret not killing those two. What if they cause trouble for me in the future?"
The system replied, "Then you’d better cultivate hard. That way, the next time you see them, you can be sure to silence them for good."
"Deal," Song Jiulai said.
After the person and system, united against a common enemy, finished their discussion, Song Jiulai prepared to leave.
But as she went to leave, she hesitated.
These two mortal books had remained here, untaken, precisely because they were considered worthless.
But considering the Huaxia Language had appeared inside...
This Liu Yao was very likely someone connected to Huaxia.
’In that case, I won’t be polite!’
’What others didn’t want, I’ll take!’
Song Jiulai happily tucked the two books into her Jiezidai.
’I’ll properly study the two short stories in these books when I get back.’
After taking the books, Song Jiulai asked the system, "Connect me to the internet. Let’s see if I can find anything on the name Liu Yao."
She searched the internet for a long time but couldn’t find anyone who fit the profile.
The name Liu Yao was surprisingly common.
And its commonality made the search difficult.
’So, was it just Liu Yao’s dream, or did she truly have a connection to Huaxia?’
Time in the Secret Realm didn’t pass particularly quickly. After the players in the game recovered from their shock at the Sect Master’s generosity, Chen Miaomiao redeemed several Second Rank and Third-tier spiritual grasses for research.
She hadn’t had access to them before, but now with the excellent specimens from the Sect Master, she could begin cultivating Third-tier spiritual grass seedlings.
However, Chen Miaomiao, who hadn’t logged off in some time, received a system notification that someone was looking for her in the real world.
After logging off, Chen Miaomiao realized someone was knocking on her door.
She had moved into a rented apartment to play the game more freely, as she was worried about disturbing her roommates in the dorm.
But not many people knew her new address.
When she opened the door, she was surprised to see her older cousin from Qiu City.
"I’m not disturbing you, am I?" her cousin asked as Chen Miaomiao opened the door.
Chen Miaomiao shook her head.
The sun was shining brightly outside; it was a perfect afternoon.
’Lately, I’ve been playing the game day and night.’
Aside from her daily experiments, studying, eating, and sleeping, she spent every possible moment immersed in the game.
Ordinarily, playing this much would have wrecked her body, but every time Chen Miaomiao logged off, she felt invigorated.
Coupled with her own suspicions, she didn’t pay much mind to how often she played.
Her cousin walked in, laden with bags. "I’m here on a business trip from Qiu City. I remembered you were here, so I brought you a bunch of local specialties."
She was a distant cousin, and she and Chen Miaomiao didn’t usually keep in close contact.
But they were the kind of relatives who would reach out for major life events.
Seeing her cousin carrying all those things, Chen Miaomiao was touched. "You really shouldn’t have."
"It’s no trouble at all. It must be tough for you, studying here."
She came over and set everything down, taking in the simple rented apartment—just a bedroom and a study that was visible from the entrance.
Inside the study was Chen Miaomiao’s VR gaming setup.
Her cousin laughed. "Your parents always say you do nothing but bury your head in your books. It’s good to see you know how to relax."
Her cousin was worldly enough that even if she didn’t recognize the specifics, she could identify the pile of equipment as being for video games.
Chen Miaomiao smiled faintly. "I just found a really fun game recently. I do know how to relax; I’m not a total bookworm. Cousin, do you want to have dinner together tonight?"
"Sure," her cousin nodded. Then, as if remembering something, she added, "Oh, right. Be careful when you’re gaming. Don’t stay up all night and ruin your health. And be careful in general—always look both ways before you cross the street. You kids who study so hard often lose track of day and night. I worry you’ll get lost in your thoughts and stop paying attention."
Chen Miaomiao smiled. "What’s wrong, Cousin? You sound so serious all of a sudden."
"Sigh," her cousin said with a heavy heart. "A young woman at the company next to my office died in a car accident a little while ago. When they reviewed the security footage, they said she was looking at a kitten and didn’t see the car coming."
"Such a poor girl. She was an orphan who had finally graduated from college and found a stable job. And just like that, she was gone. They said there was no one to even claim her body, so nobody knows where she was buried. Life is just so unpredictable... and she was about your age, too."
So that was it.
Chen Miaomiao felt sorry for the girl as she listened to the story.
’For an orphan to graduate from college and find a stable job... she must have endured so much.’
Chen Miaomiao nodded. "I’ll be careful."
Her cousin nodded too. Noticing the clutter around Chen Miaomiao’s apartment, she started tidying up while muttering, "That Jiulai girl was so nice. One time..."
Chen Miaomiao froze. "Cousin, who did you just say?"
"Huh?" Her cousin looked up, trying to remember what she’d just said. "Oh, Jiulai. The girl’s name was Song Jiulai. A little strange, isn’t it? I heard she didn’t even know who gave her the name..."
Then she saw the look on Chen Miaomiao’s face.
Sensing something was wrong, her cousin asked, "What is it?"
"Song Jiulai?"
’Isn’t our Sect Master’s name Song Jiulai?’
Chen Miaomiao blinked rapidly. "It’s nothing, Cousin. What did that girl look like?"
Her cousin grew curious. "Why would I have a picture of her? Why are you asking all of a sudden? Don’t tell me you know her?"
Chen Miaomiao nodded. "I also know someone named Song Jiulai. It couldn’t possibly be the same person, right? It’s a pretty rare name."
"Huh?"
Her cousin was stunned for a moment. "A friend of yours? That’s impossible, you’re not from Qiu City."
Chen Miaomiao nodded. "That’s why I’m asking, to see if they’re the same person."
Her cousin thought for a moment. "Let me see if I can find a picture for you."
