Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Could They Really Be From the Blood Prison Sect?
The four sects outside were puzzled.
If a disciple who went in was memorable, everyone would remember them.
But perhaps they had overlooked someone.
Even if this disciple had changed their face, there should have been some trace of familiarity. After all, every disciple who entered was an outstanding individual nurtured by their sect, someone everyone would have an impression of.
But based on this Cultivator’s behavior and temperament, there was no trace of familiarity at all.
The Blood Prison Sect disciples started whispering among themselves, "So shifty-looking. Must be from the Extreme Saint Sect, right?"
"...I can’t say that with a clear conscience. The Extreme Saint Sect is the most pretentious; it’s probably not them. I’m guessing Heavenly Crane."
The Extreme Saint Sect guessed as well, "One look and you can tell they’re from the Blood Prison Sect. No one else turns out that shifty."
The Heavenly Crane Sect was even more bewildered. "Doesn’t look like someone from the Supreme Mysterious Sect, either. Could they be from the Blood Prison Sect?"
After all, Lü Rufeng and Yi Tianhe on the screen were from the Supreme Mysterious Sect. It made no sense for them not to recognize one of their own disciples.
With all the sects guessing, the odds were currently highest on the Blood Prison Sect.
They had two votes, after all.
In the Secret Realm, Song Jiulai had drawn some of the heat for the other two. Lü Rufeng breathed a sigh of relief and immediately directed his Snake Shadow Flying Wheel toward the Nine Netherworld Spider’s main body.
It hit its mark. The effect of the Snake Shadow Flying Wheel Magic Treasure finally kicked in, and a momentary silence caused the Nine Netherworld Spider’s body to freeze.
Song Jiulai’s reaction was just as fast. Seeing her chance, she immediately blasted it with two Palm Thunders.
They struck the Nine Netherworld Spider’s weakest point—its eyes!
This was no joke. Song Jiulai, who would kill any First and Second Rank Demon Beast on sight and had never stopped fighting because she was too poor, had nearly maxed out her combat skills by now.
The Nine Netherworld Spider finally let out a piercing shriek.
Its body trembled violently as it retracted its silk, leaving the ground in a complete mess.
It suddenly squatted down, and one of its massive limbs snapped off, spraying a large amount of venom from the break.
Neither Song Jiulai nor Lü Rufeng and his companion had ever seen this move. Caught completely off guard, they retreated hastily but still couldn’t escape unscathed.
Yi Tianhe let out a scream, and Lü Rufeng also cried out in pain, clutching his face.
Song Jiulai instinctively jerked her head back, and venom splashed onto her arm.
A curse instantly escaped her lips: "Fuck!"
The sensation of the venom hitting her was far beyond what one might call a ’thrilling sting’.
For a moment, it felt like she was in an ice cellar, yet a searing pain burned from the wound. The Nine Netherworld Spider’s venom could steadily deplete a person’s Spiritual Energy, but more importantly, it had a hallucinogenic effect.
Of course, the hallucinogenic effect wasn’t very strong, but it could easily make one fall into a trance and recall past events.
"Wake up—Song Jiulai, what is wrong with you? Your work is done, so you’re just going to sleep at your desk? Do you have any respect for this company?! Did the company spend money to hire you just so you could sleep? If you don’t want to work, then don’t! There are plenty of people who do! Go home and farm for all I care!"
The familiar tone of her bald-headed manager rang out, and a wave of intense irritation washed over Song Jiulai.
But before she could curse back, ’I’ve already transmigrated, why the hell do I still have to work? Are you insane?!’
A jolt shot through her. Suddenly, she remembered—’Aren’t I still fighting a spider?’
Then she heard the system’s familiar voice: "How dare you! Pissing on my territory!"
"..."
Song Jiulai was completely awake now.
She saw that the Nine Netherworld Spider was about to retreat.
This act of severing its own limb had greatly damaged its Primordial Energy. It opened its saw-toothed mouth, intending to bite Lü Rufeng.
But upon seeing that Song Jiulai had regained her senses, it decisively began to fall back.
Song Jiulai’s body was cold, the venom still corroding her flesh. She immediately popped a Third-stage Blood Replenishing Pill, followed by a Third-stage Qi Replenishing Pill.
As soon as she felt the wound ease, she was about to press her advantage when Lü Rufeng’s eyes suddenly turned vicious. He seemed to have entered some kind of berserk state as his Snake Shadow Flying Wheel shot toward Song Jiulai.
Song Jiulai: ?
’Seriously, man? A little bit of hallucinogenic venom was enough to drive you this crazy?’
"Fellow Daoist, is your brain poisoned?!" Song Jiulai shouted. And damn it, the Snake Shadow Flying Wheel hadn’t been this fast when he was attacking the Nine Netherworld Spider; its speed now seemed even greater than before.
Song Jiulai barely managed to dodge. The Flying Wheel grazed her neck, carrying a chilling aura.
Lü Rufeng was still shouting, "You injured my sect-mate! Forfeit your life!"
Song Jiulai: "Are you out of your mind?!"
’I haven’t even done anything yet!’
At that moment, she noticed something was really off about Lü Rufeng. Looking closer, she saw his eyes had a faint green glint.
It was as if he were being controlled.
’Is the Nine Netherworld Spider’s hallucinogenic venom really that strong?’
Then again, half of Lü Rufeng’s face had been splashed with venom. He looked rather horrifying; perhaps he had taken more damage than she had.
"Rufeng?" Yi Tianhe cried out in panic. She hadn’t been affected by the hallucination, likely because Lü Rufeng had shielded her, and she had only been splashed on the shoulder.
"Fellow Daoist, run! He’s been bewitched!" Yi Tianhe shouted, playing her Magic Treasure Flute. The sound waves rippled out, flying toward Lü Rufeng.
But Lü Rufeng was rushing toward Song Jiulai at the same time, broadening the sound wave’s attack range. It chased after both of them, emitting a crackling arc of electricity.
While running, Song Jiulai also had to avoid being hit. She ducked and weaved, clutching her head. "Fellow Daoist, are your eyes not working properly?!"
Yi Tianhe: "..."
She narrowed her eyes slightly.
’This person just swallowed two Third-stage Elixir Pills in one go. They really don’t treat pills like precious medicine.’
Outside, before the Water Mirror, the crowd exclaimed in amazement.
The Heavenly Crane Sect was a Medicine Sect, so they knew the toxicity of various demon beasts like the back of their hands. Although Song Jiulai had only been hit by a small amount of venom, the hallucinogenic effect clearly hadn’t worked on her.
’Is this Cultivator’s willpower really that strong?’
"Is Lü Rufeng really under control?" someone sneered disdainfully. "It’s obviously an act. The Nine Netherworld Spider’s venom is potent, sure, but that only works on ordinary Cultivators. Lü Rufeng’s cultivation is beyond just Late-stage Qi Refining. How could he be controlled so easily?"
The Blood Prison Sect also saw what was happening. "Those two are ganging up to take this person down."
A member of the Extreme Saint Sect shook his head. "A pity, a pity. This person’s skills and awareness are both excellent. But they’ve already used three Elixir Pills. You can’t waste Elixir Pills in the Secret Realm. Their luck is just a bit poor. If they hadn’t run into Lü Rufeng and his partner, they might have lasted until the final day."
"These Supreme Mysterious Sect disciples are so shameless. Which unlucky sect does this poor disciple belong to?"
"Don’t tell me they’re actually from the Blood Prison Sect?"
Hearing the hushed discussions around them, the people from the Blood Prison Sect were also a bit confused.
’Are they from our Sect? But they don’t seem like it.’
A Golden Core Stage Steward from the Blood Prison Sect whispered to the person next to him, "Let me see the list of Qi Refining Disciples we sent in this time."
It made no sense that he wouldn’t know about such a promising prospect.
