Chapter 408: Chapter 408: Triggering a Zombie Tide

When Little Fatty heard this, he was a bit stunned. "Boss, where are we going to get help from?"

"There are plenty of ’helpers’ around! Just think about what’s most plentiful here in Dong’an City, and you’ll figure it out," Lin Xinghai said with a smile.

At first, Little Fatty was confused, but he quickly realized what Lin Xinghai meant. "Boss," he said, a mix of horror and excitement in his voice, "are you talking about the zombies?"

"You’re not as dumb as you look. Alright, that’s enough talk for now. Just be careful. In half an hour at most, I’ll make them regret ever coming after me. Just make sure you don’t get into any trouble before then," Lin Xinghai instructed.

"Don’t worry, Boss! I may not be good at much else, but I’ve got some skills when it comes to hiding," Little Fatty said, puffing out his chest.

After giving his instructions, Lin Xinghai didn’t give it another thought. He trusted that his team wouldn’t mess up something so simple.

He glanced again at the team in the distance, which was drawing ever closer, and let out a soft sigh.

In fact, over the past half hour, he had intercepted five teams in a row that were carrying Energy Balls. The number of Energy Balls he now possessed had reached 48, meaning he had essentially met his goal.

He hadn’t planned on taking any more action; he was just going to wait quietly for the assessment to end.

’But since these people want to team up against me, they’d better be ready for my counterattack.’

Soon, Lin Xinghai vanished from the rooftop.

At this moment, Yan Feijie’s operation was drawing a massive amount of attention. Not only had it become the focus of all the examinees, but even the Military Department was now zeroing in on the matter.

...

"Instructor Zuo, what do you think Lin Xinghai will do to handle this situation?" Lü Wei asked with a chuckle, watching the scene unfold in the command post.

"What else could he do? He’s definitely going to retaliate. I’m just not sure how he plans to do it," Zuo Wenyao said, stroking his chin.

"Sigh. Young people are so impulsive. With his skill at avoiding zombies, all he had to do was help his three teammates relocate, and Yan Feijie’s team would have returned empty-handed. By choosing to retaliate now, he might end up getting caught himself," Lü Wei lamented.

"I don’t think so," Zuo Wenyao countered. "He’s not the reckless type; he definitely has a plan. Even if he can’t gain an advantage, escaping unscathed shouldn’t be a major issue for him." He had always held Lin Xinghai in high regard.

Lü Wei pursed his lips, looking unconvinced.

The large screen in the center of the command post was split into numerous surveillance windows, the vast majority of which were small.

However, the feed showing Yan Feijie’s massive team and the one tracking Lin Xinghai each took up a full third of the large screen.

Clearly, the attention given to all the other participants combined couldn’t compare to that lavished on these two.

The window tracking Lin Xinghai showed his running figure, but suddenly, he stopped moving.

He stopped in front of a group of zombies.

"What is he doing? Does he still plan on killing zombies at a time like this?" one of the observers asked in confusion.

"That’s impossible! He already has 48 Energy Balls. With that many Points, who would be bored enough to waste their time fighting zombies!" another observer immediately chimed in.

Just as the observers began their discussion, the horde of zombies charged at Lin Xinghai.

At that moment, Lin Xinghai stowed his Tearing Rifle and drew the standard-issue long spear from his back. An instantaneous flurry of spear glints flashed out, and the zombie at the very front was immediately riddled with more than a dozen bloody holes.

’So he really is going to kill zombies?’

This thought subconsciously crossed the minds of the vast majority of onlookers.

But there were exceptions, such as Zuo Wenyao and Lü Wei.

They both instantly noticed something was off. If he were really trying to kill the zombie, why would he need to poke so many holes in it? A single spear thrust would have been enough to kill it.

After skewering the zombie to death, Lin Xinghai didn’t attack any others. Instead, he grabbed the corpse, turned, and fled.

The zombie horde, as if enraged, began roaring as it frantically pursued Lin Xinghai.

Many of the observers were still confused by Lin Xinghai’s behavior, but the more clever ones had already figured out what he was up to.

"He’s trying to trigger a zombie tide! This kid’s got some nerve... Now we’re in for it. It won’t just be Yan Feijie’s people who are in trouble; we’re going to have a mess on our hands too. How many rescue teams will we have to send to prevent any deaths?" Zuo Wenyao said, covering his forehead with his hand.

As for Lü Wei beside him, he was momentarily at a loss for words.

He had just been saying that Lin Xinghai might get himself into trouble by seeking revenge.

Only a moment later, he was already eating his words.

If Lin Xinghai really started a zombie tide, it was a no-brainer that the ones who would suffer would be the massive team Yan Feijie had assembled.

The only uncertainty now was just how large this zombie tide would ultimately become.

A few thousand would be manageable. But if the number broke ten thousand, he didn’t even dare to imagine the consequences.

"Instructor Zuo, the Military Department might be short-handed. Your team of instructors..." he said, trailing off as he glanced at the other examiners present. These were all experts of the Body Shaping Realm, and quite a few were at the Peak of the Body Shaping Realm. They represented an absolutely immense fighting force.

Upon hearing this, the corners of the other examiners’ mouths twitched. They never imagined that a simple assessment would escalate to the point where they would have to personally step in to protect the students.

However, they all knew this wasn’t the time to shirk their responsibilities. Without even waiting for Zuo Wenyao to speak, they all stood up.

"Old Lü, quit your whining. We’ll go, alright? But let’s be clear, we can only be responsible for a portion of the examinees. Don’t you go expecting us to handle everything," an examiner named Li Han was the first to say.

"That’s right. His strength is limited. You can count on me more," Wu Dongwen immediately shot back.

Seeing that the two seemed about to start bickering again, the other examiners quickly stepped in to mediate.

"Instead of wasting time arguing, you should be thinking about how we’re going to conduct the rescue when the time comes," Zuo Wenyao cut in.

At the same time, he pointed to the surveillance screen.

Everyone turned to look. The camera view had just zoomed out, allowing them to see the dense, seething horde of zombies chasing after Lin Xinghai.

"How long has it been? How are there so many zombies already?" someone exclaimed, their eyes wide.

Just then, they saw Lin Xinghai suddenly toss the bleeding zombie corpse he was carrying forward.

In the same instant, his figure blurred, passing through a building and appearing on the next street over. Without a word, he charged into a group of zombies, instantly injured several High Level Zombies, and then brazenly grabbed one of their corpses and ran back to his original street.

When this enraged group of zombies gave chase, they merged perfectly with the massive horde already pursuing Lin Xinghai, and the number of zombies in the horde rapidly swelled to over 1,200.

"You all had better prepare for this horde’s numbers to break ten thousand," Zuo Wenyao’s grim voice echoed.
