Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Confrontation and Despair

In that moment, the members of the Canglang Brigade were terrified.

Cold sweat was already beading on Qian Haoran’s forehead.

He had previously guessed that his opponent, being a Speed-type Superpower User, would have limited offensive methods and would likely use Firearms to attack them.

But he never would have imagined that the man’s Gun Technique would be this good.

It couldn’t even be described as "good." It was simply horrifying.

Before encountering Lin Xinghai, the Canglang Brigade had exchanged fire with other teams before, and there had been situations where Firearms were used.

But the truth was, on a battlefield like this, Firearms weren’t as effective as one might imagine.

First off, to avoid being disqualified from the exam and drafted into military service, no one would aim for an enemy’s head when using Firearms.

Under these circumstances, and since they were all wearing Carbon Nanomaterial Combat Suits, getting hit by one or two shots wasn’t a big deal.

They weren’t just standing targets; they would obviously fire back when aimed at. So, with all these factors combined, the damage from bullets was sometimes less effective than a powerful Superpower.

But Lin Xinghai’s Gun Technique completely shattered their worldview. Even while firing on full-auto, he could still accurately hit the unprotected hands of their members.

Such wounds weren’t fatal, but they were excruciatingly painful. More importantly, it made it impossible to hold a weapon, causing their combat effectiveness to plummet.

However, although the members of the Canglang Brigade were stunned by Lin Xinghai’s Gun Technique, their reactions were genuinely fast. The remaining few Defensive Superpower Users quickly activated their Superpowers, protecting all the members within.

The other members also quickly raised their Tearing Rifles and began searching for Lin Xinghai’s position, intending to counterattack.

But when they looked in the direction the gunshots came from, there was no one there at all.

RAT-TAT-TAT!

The gunfire erupted again. One Superpower User had deployed an Energy Barrier, but under the impact of a dozen bullets, it instantly shattered, and his face immediately turned pale.

Before anyone could react, the eight members within his protective range had their weapon-holding hands pierced through. As their weapons clattered to the ground, they clutched their hands and let out agonizing cries.

"Quick, quick, quick! Plug the gap with your Superpowers! Pull everyone inside and hold the line! Bullets can’t break through every type of Defensive Superpower."

"Also, did no one spot him attacking just now? Why didn’t you fire back?" Qian Haoran roared while directing his team.

"Captain, I saw him just now, but he was attacking while moving at high speed! His Speed must be at least 400 points, and his movements are erratic. Not even a Divine Sharpshooter could hope to hit him!" a member exclaimed.

Hearing this, Qian Haoran’s expression turned ugly. If that was the case, they had no way to deal with him at all.

’Are we just going to be sitting ducks?’

As he was mulling this over, Lin Xinghai’s voice drifted over from a distance. "I’ll give you one last chance. Hand over the Energy Ball and 200 rounds of ammunition, and I’ll let you go. Otherwise, the moment you can no longer sustain the Energy consumption of your Defensive Superpowers will be the moment you’re eliminated."

The Tearing Rifle couldn’t break through all Defensive Superpowers. Only types like the Energy Barrier would shatter completely after being pierced in a single spot.

But for Defensive Superpowers like a Water Shield or an Earth Wall, being pierced in one spot wouldn’t compromise the overall Defense. The Superpower would only be broken if a large area was destroyed.

Simply put, these types of Superpowers needed to be broken with area-of-effect weapons like a Hand Cannon or grenades, but Lin Xinghai didn’t have any.

But that didn’t matter. After all, maintaining any Superpower consumed a person’s internal Energy. He could easily wear them down.

Hearing Lin Xinghai’s threat again, Qian Haoran couldn’t afford to ignore it this time.

But he was still unwilling to give in. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he quickly shouted, "So what if you wear us down? If I’m not mistaken, there are three more teams heading this way. When they arrive, do you think you can take on all of us?"

"And why not?" Lin Xinghai’s voice drifted over again. "As long as no one on your team can match my Speed, I’m invincible."

"Besides, against my Gun Technique, you’ll always have to keep your Defensive Superpowers active. I’ll say it again: the moment your Defensive Superpower Users run out of Energy is the moment you’re all eliminated."

"Instead of letting it come to that, you might as well just hand over the Energy Ball and go kill Zombies for Points."

However, Qian Haoran retorted, refusing to show weakness, "You think you can eliminate us just by saying so? Even if you seriously injure us, would you really dare to approach? We can still use our Superpowers even if our hands are wounded."

"Sigh..." Lin Xing let out a soft sigh.

Hearing him sigh, Qian Haoran felt a surge of joy, thinking he had truly found his opponent’s weakness.

What greeted him, however, was the sound of gunfire once more.

RAT-TAT-TAT!

This time, the gunfire was brief, as Lin Xinghai only fired a three-shot burst.

His target this time was a Water Shield.

This type of water-based Defensive Superpower only offered average protection. However, its resilience was excellent, and most variations had an auto-repair function.

This Water Shield was just like that. It was pierced after blocking two bullets, and the third bullet instantly shot through the same hole.

But the Water Shield was repairing itself at an incredible speed. In less than a second, the bullet hole had vanished as if it were never there.

It was as if nothing had happened at all.

At this moment, however, the Defensive Superpower User who had created the Water Shield was deathly pale. He wasn’t injured, nor was he suffering from backlash because his shield had been pierced.

It was because Lin Xinghai’s third bullet had hit him in the lower back—exactly where he had hidden his Communication Wristwatch.

Just then, Qian Haoran scanned his team members. Seeing that no one appeared to be injured, he breathed a quiet sigh of relief. But he soon noticed the pale face of the Water Ability User.

"Luo Shui, what’s wrong?" Qian Haoran asked immediately, his heart sinking.

If he was hurt, losing another Defensive Superpower User would be disastrous.

However, the young man called Luo Shui didn’t answer. With a look of utter despair, he reached behind him to his lower back and pulled out a shattered Communication Wristwatch.

The others were first stunned by the sight, but then, as realization dawned, their eyes widened in terror.
