Chapter 75: 75 | Second Wave

Gregor was even more brutal.

One wolf jumped toward him. Instead of dodging, he caught the beast by the throat with one massive hand.

"Rawoooo!"

The wolf struggled violently. Its claws raked against his arm causing blood to appeared but Gregor did not flinch.

Instead, he locked the beast neck into a vice grip and slowlydrove his sword through the creature’s neck.

"Crunch."

The wolf whimpered in pain and its body shook violently before itwent limp.

Thw next second, his dropped the dead beast, twisted his waist as he slammed into another wolf’s skull with force.

"Squelch!"

The skull cracked as the beast died instantly.

Lena was the least experienced fighter among them.

The first wolf nearly caught her off guard. She blocked awkwardly, the impact almost knocking her off balance.

Fear flashed in her eyes. But she gritted her teeth and stubbornly glared at the wolf.

Suddenly, she flashed forward and her sword flashed with speed.

The blade sliced across the wolf’s neck before it could realize what was happening, letting blood pour out as the creature stumbled several steps before collapsing.

Meanwhile, more wolves continued rushing towards them.

Marcus, Fiona and Gregor killed them with speed.

Lena slowly found her rhythm and she was able to kill another beast.

Five minutes later, silence returned to the clearing and 12 wolf corpses littered the grass.

Not a single monster remained alive. Blood soaked the ground and the metallic scent hung heavy in the air.

Dexter stood exactly where Marcus had ordered him to stay. He had not even drawn his sword and the wolves had never reached him.

Every monster that came close had been intercepted and killed by the others before he even had the opportunity to move.

"AWOOO!"

The alpha grey wolf was enraged as it charged at them. It’s claws immediately struck out with force.

Gregor’s eyes hardened and he immediately stepped forward with his sheld as he roared

"Parry!"

"Ding!"

The beast paused for a second, Fiona used the opportunity to charge at it and slashed at its ankles causing it too stumble.

Marcus grin widened and he leapt five meters upwards and descended like a meteor.

"Slash!"

The head of the beast was immediately severed into two.

Marcus looked around at the battlefield, breathing hard, and grinned proudly.

"Too easy."

He wiped blood from his sword.

"The first wave is complete."

He rolled his shoulders confidently. "F-Rank licenses secured already."

Fiona wiped blood from one of her daggers before sliding it back into its sheath. "Looks like the first wave really was just a formality."

She glanced toward the dark forest surrounding them. "The second wave should be much stronger."

Gregor silently picked up his shield and tightened the strap around his forearm. Lena carefully cleaned the blood from her sword with a piece of cloth. Her hands trembled slightly from leftover adrenaline.

The first wave had barely lasted five minutes. 13 wolves. 13 corpses. Not a single injury among them.

Marcus glanced back at Dexter and smirked. "Congratulations, F-Rank. You officially contributed absolutely nothing and still earned your Hero License."

Fiona frowned. "Marcus."

He shrugged. "What? The wolves didn’t even get close to him. He spent the entire fight standing there looking pretty."

He paused before adding with a grin, "Actually, scratch that. Standing there looking ugly."

Fiona rolled her eyes. Marcus ignored her. "The least you can do is harvest the Nexus Cores. Otherwise you’ll be completely useless in here."

Dexter looked at the corpses around him and smiled inwardly.

Perfect.

That gave him the perfect excuse. He crouched beside the first corpse and placed his hand against it and curated the Extraction System.

[Extraction Successful.]

+3 Strength

+5 Agility

+2 Mana

+1 Physique

Dexter’s eyes widened slightly with excitement. He quickly moved to the second corpse, then the third, then fourth, fifth. One after another.

[Extraction Successful.]

+4 Agility

The notifications continued appearing inside his mind. By the time he reached the final wolf, a warm, tingling current surged through his entire body.

His muscles became denser. His bones felt heavier, sturdier. His mana circulation smoothed our and his body had become noticeably stronger.

According to the system, he was still a Tier 3 Superhuman.

However, his physical attributes had risen tremendously. If his previous strength represented an average Tier 3 Superhuman, then his current physical power was already approaching Tier 6 to 7.

Dexter suppressed the excitement in his eyes. This was the main reason why he wanted to enter the dungeon. Because if the extraction system.

The value of dungeons to him was simply absurd.

In his hand rested twelve glowing Nexus Cores.

Looking at the perfectly nearly aplit head of the wolves without bashing the skull in, Marcus sneered. "Looks like you’ve found your calling. You’d make a pretty decent porter."

He crossed his arms. "Honestly, your next dungeon run should probably be as support staff." He laughed. "Carrying luggage suits you perfectly."

"Marcus!"

Fiona glared at him and the turned to Dexter. "Don’t take it personally. He’s always a jerk."

Dexter merely smiled. "I wasn’t planning on taking it personally."

Marcus snorted.

"Ding!"

They watch suddenly rang out as an holographic screen appeared above each device.

[Wave One Cleared.]

[Preparing Wave Two.]

[Preparation Time Remaining: 60 Seconds.]

Instantly, the atmosphere changed and the casual confidence disappeared from everyone’s expressions.

Gregor frowned deeply. "The mana density increased."

Dexter had already noticed.

In fact, he had been the first to notice with his SS-Rank Mana Affinity, which allowed him to sense changes in mana far earlier than ordinary heroes.

The mana floating through the forest was becoming increasingly violent. Even the fog itself began twisting into slow swirls.

Then, a growl echoed through the darkness.

"Grrrrrr."

Another followed.

"Grrrrrr."

Suddenly, pairs of glowing eyes appeared throughout the forest.

Ten pairs, twenty pairs, thirty pairs and the darkness itself seemed alive.

Lena tightened her grip on her sword. "There are more than before."

Fiona’s expression darkened. "A lot more." Marcus slowly nodded. "Formation."

Immediately, everyone moved.

Marcus took the front. Gregor guarded the rear. Fiona moved to the left flank. Lena took the right.

As for Dexter, he remained in the center.

Marcus glanced back toward him and smirked. "Same as before. Stay in the middle and don’t become a burden." Dexter did not reply. He had no interest in arguing.
