Chapter 41: 41 | Killing Four Assassins
Spatial Cleave.
Dexter swung his blade at the thunder attack.
A compressed crescent-shaped slash, nearly two meters tall, shot forward silently with insane speed.
There was no explosion or even a rumble, Just a clean, perfect arc of cutting force that moved through the air like a blade through water.
The attack silently split the air itself. A faint trail of distorted space followed its path, like heat rising from hot pavement.
The two techniques collided.
BOOOOOOM!!
A deafening explosion echoed across the entire highway. It shattered every remaining window on every car within a hundred-meter radius.
Lightning exploded outward in every direction. Arcs of blue electricity shot across the road like angry snakes. They struck cars, guardrails, and light poles, leaving scorch marks wherever they touched.
Space distorted violently. The air around the collision point bent and warped.
The surrounding asphalt cracked apart for dozens of meters. Massive chunks of road surface flipped into the air. A crater formed beneath the impact point, deepening with every passing millisecond.
For a brief moment...
Neither attack gave way.
The lightning pushed forward. The spatial slash pushed back. The two forces ground against each other in a contest of pure destruction.
Then —
A sharp cracking sound echoed.
The lightning slash shattered. It broke apart like glass hit by a stone. Fragments of blue energy scattered and dissolved into the air.
Dexter’s Spatial Cleave continued forward, tearing through the remaining thunder. The crescent of distorted space surged ahead with undiminished power.
The assassin’s eyes widened.
Impossible!
He had poured everything into that attack and it was his most powerful technique.
But it had been actually been overpowered.
He hurriedly crossed both sabers before him as the spatial Cleave struck.
CRACK!
Both sabers shattered into countless fragments. The metal exploded outward. Shards of steel flew in every direction like shrapnel.
The assassin froze.
For a heartbeat...
Everything became silent. The world stopped.
Then a thin crimson line appeared across the center of his body.
His eyes slowly widened in disbelief.
"N-No..."
Before he could finish his words, his body split cleanly into two halves as they fell in opposite directions.
Blood sprayed across the ruined highway in a wide arc. The hot red liquid splattered across the asphalt, the guardrails, and the nearby abandoned cars.
Both halves collapsed onto the ground with a dull thud.
Dexter remained standing, breathing heavily. Sweat rolled down his forehead and into his eyes. His arms trembled from exhaustion.
Nearly half the mana inside his body had vanished from that single strike. Spatial Cleave was powerful, but its cost was enormous.
Just when he sighed in relief.
He remembered there was a fourth assassin.
At this moment, a blur appeared before the SUV. The fourth assassin had given up on using sniper and rushed in personally.
Inside the vehicle, Mira, Selene, and Lyra remained protected by the shimmering violet barrier created by the Type-3 Protective Amulet.
The assassin suddenly raised his sword high into the air.
Golden flames erupted around the blade as he swung downward with all his strength.
"BOOM!"
The flaming sword slammed against the violet barrier as a shockwave blasted outward, sending dust and debris flying in every direction.
The shield rippled violently. Countless waves spread across its surface like ripples in a pond as the color dimmed a little but it didn’t break.
The assassin frowned. His brow furrowed behind his mask.
He attacked again and again and again but the shield actually held.
Golden flames exploded repeatedly against the barrier. Each strike sent another shockwave across the highway.
Yet the violet shield merely trembled before returning to normal each time.
Inside the barrier, the girls watched with cold and expressions on their faces. Mira’s jaw was clenched. Selene’s hands were balled into fists. Lyra’s eyes were wide behind her glasses.
But the girls weren’t panicked at all. They were filled with rage and anger.
In their prime, a Level 5 Superhuman was nothing in their eyes. Before their injuries, they were insanely strong and could handle anyone below the peak Super Human realm..
They were monsters who had faced monsters and enemies that would make this assassin tremble with fear.
They had once fought monsters that could destroy cities.
And now...
Now a low-rank hero was actually showing off and threatening to kill them. A Level 5 Superhuman. Someone they would have swatted aside like a fly in their prime.
Moreover, they lacked the strength to defend themselves. They couldn’t fight. They couldn’t run. They could only sit and watch as someone attacked them like helpless prey.
This made the three girls really, really angry.
The Type-3 Protective Amulet truly possessed defensive power capable of blocking attacks from Peak Superhuman experts
As long as the barrier remained active...
The assassin was he was about to strike again.
But —
A streak of crimson flames shot across the battlefield.
The second assassin sensed the danger and immediately abandoned the barrier and he turned just in time to block.
CLANG!
The Macro Splicing Saber collided with the flaming sword.
Sparks exploded everywhere. Crimson sparks from Dexter’s flame-enhanced blade.
Golden sparks from the assassin’s burning sword. They mixed in the air like two colors of fire dancing together.
The force of the collision pushed both men backward several meters. Their feet carved grooves into the asphalt as they skidded apart.
The assassin smirked beneath his mask. His eyes glittered with amusement.
"Because you killed Thunder Blade, you assume you can do the same to me?"
He twirled his sword casually. Golden flames spiraled around the blade in elegant patterns.
Golden flames erupted around his body. His entire figure became enveloped in blazing fire. The heat was intense. Oppressive. It radiated outward in waves.
"C-Rank Talent..."
Golden Flame Body.
The temperature around him rose instantly and the air shimmered.
Even from several meters away, Dexter could feel the heat pressing against his skin. It was like standing next to an open furnace.
Dexter narrowed his eyes.
Another elemental talent.
And this time he was a Level 5 Superhuman. Two full levels above the first assassin.
This battle...
...was becoming far more dangerous than he had anticipated.
