Chapter 363: They abduct pregnant females?
Rory stopped teasing Yuel and quickly got dressed and freshened up.
By the time she stepped out of the room, Vangar had already returned from his pursuit.
The moment she saw him safe and unharmed, she immediately asked, "Vangar, Yuel said there was unusual energy activity in the hotel earlier. You went after it. Did you find anything?"
"I caught a few little bugs."
Vangar smiled casually.
"I interrogated them on the way back. They’ve been hiding in this area for quite some time, specifically targeting pregnant females."
Rory frowned.
"They abduct pregnant females?"
A note of concern entered her voice.
"What do they want with them? No one was taken, was she?"
"Actually, they had already captured one."
Vangar reached over and naturally took Rory’s hand.
"But don’t worry. I rescued her and returned her safely to her mates."
Rory nodded, visibly relieved.
As long as the female had been rescued, that was what mattered most.
Still, confusion lingered in her eyes.
"But why would the insectoids target pregnant females?"
Vangar hesitated.
He carefully considered how to explain it without frightening her.
Before he could find the right words, Jasper approached from nearby and answered first.
"Insectoid females are extremely rare. To maintain their population, they often resort to abducting females from other races."
His expression darkened slightly.
"Pregnant females are especially valuable to them. The insectoids believe that females who have already conceived possess exceptionally strong reproductive capabilities."
"That’s why they specifically target pregnant females."
Vangar nodded.
"Exactly."
To the insectoids, those abducted females were nothing more than breeding tools.
"That’s disgusting."
The image of the insectoid she had encountered before flashed through Rory’s mind.
The creature’s face had been covered in countless eyes.
The memory alone made her stomach churn.
She quickly covered her mouth.
Both Jasper and Vangar immediately tensed.
"Rory, what’s wrong?"
Concern filled Vangar’s voice.
"Are you feeling sick again?"
Jasper was already turning toward the door.
"I’ll go get Lian."
"No, no, don’t."
Rory hurriedly grabbed his arm.
"I’m fine."
She took a deep breath and tried to steady herself.
"I just remembered that insectoid we saw before. The one with eyes all over its face."
A shudder ran through her.
"It grossed me out."
Fortunately, once she calmed herself, the nausea quickly faded.
Only then did Jasper and Vangar finally relax.
"Rory, breakfast is ready."
Jasper smiled softly.
"After breakfast, we can leave for the Central District."
Rory nodded.
"Then go bring the food over. I’ll check on Vincent first."
Vangar immediately stepped forward.
"I’ll go with you."
"Alright."
This time, she did not refuse.
Turning to Jasper, she suddenly rose onto her toes and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
"Then I’ll have to trouble you with bringing breakfast over."
Jasper’s eyes softened instantly.
"It isn’t any trouble at all."
A smile spread across his face.
"I’ll go right now."
Carrying food was hardly difficult.
Vangar stood there, completely dumbfounded.
Delivering food came with rewards like that?
Before he could recover, Rory turned toward him as well and quickly kissed his cheek.
Vangar froze.
His entire body seemed to lock in place.
"Thank you for chasing down the insectoids so early this morning."
Rory smiled.
Then she grabbed his hand and started leading him toward Vincent’s room.
Vangar felt as though he were floating.
"Not difficult at all."
His grin was impossible to suppress.
"Rory, it wasn’t difficult in the slightest."
If this was the reward, he would gladly hunt insectoids every day for the rest of his life.
The room Vincent occupied was unusually quiet.
When Rory arrived, Xarion was asleep on the sofa.
Vincent was still resting as well.
The moment the door opened, Xarion’s eyes snapped open.
His instincts remained sharp even while sleeping.
The moment he recognized Rory, he immediately sat upright.
Keeping his voice low so he wouldn’t wake Vincent, he said softly,
"Female Master..."
"Shh."
Rory shook her head at Xarion before quietly making her way to Vincent’s bedside.
The previous night, Vincent had suffered so much discomfort that he had not fallen asleep until very late.
Sensing no danger from Rory’s presence, he remained asleep.
Standing beside the bed, Rory leaned down and gently kissed his pale cheek, her heart aching at the sight of him.
She was careful not to wake him.
After checking on Vincent, Yuel pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Lowering his voice, he said to Xarion, "I’ll stay with Vincent today. Take Rory to breakfast first."
Before leaving her room earlier that morning, Yuel had already told Rory that he would take over caring for Vincent for the day.
"Alright."
Xarion nodded and accompanied Rory out for breakfast.
As they walked out, Vangar lingered behind and seized the opportunity to ask Yuel in a low voice, "Who are you planning to arrange for Female Master tonight?"
"Jasper."
Yuel answered without hesitation.
Vangar frowned.
"Why Jasper?"
Suspicion flickered across his face.
"You didn’t accept some kind of benefit from him, did you?"
"Marshal, you’ve misunderstood."
Yuel’s expression remained perfectly calm.
"Last night, I asked all of you through the group chat. Since none of you wanted to continue using the lottery system, you asked me to make the arrangements."
He paused.
"So I thought it over and decided to follow the method Vincent originally proposed, arranging turns according to the order in which everyone bonded with Rory."
Vangar pressed his lips together.
That meant he would end up near the end of the line.
After Vangar left, Yuel checked on Vincent once more. Seeing that everything was stable, he quickly opened his communicator.
He posted the arrangement he had just discussed with Vangar into their private group chat.
Nix, who was setting out bowls and utensils, saw the message and immediately broke into a grin.
"As expected of Yuel."
His smile was impossible to suppress.
"At least he didn’t put me last."
Jasper looked at the message and blinked in surprise.
He had not expected Yuel to place him first.
Carrying a bowl of porridge into the room, Xarion glanced at the group chat and frowned.
"What about Vincent?"
He looked genuinely puzzled.
"He’s scheduled fourth, but in his current condition, can he really accompany Female Master?"
"Exactly."
Nix nodded vigorously.
"There’s no way Vincent can keep Rory company like this."
Xarion sent a message into the group.
Yuel replied almost immediately.
[That depends on Rory and Vincent. If Rory wants Vincent to accompany her and Vincent feels capable, then we’ll keep the arrangement as it is.]
A second message followed.
[If Vincent feels he can’t manage it, then Rory can make her own choice, or everyone behind him can move forward in order.]
Rory wasn’t part of their private group, so she remained completely unaware of the discussion.
After breakfast, Lian arrived to examine her condition.
Once he confirmed everything was stable, he prepared to travel back to the Central District with them.
This time, Polly had come with him.
After using the medicine, the scar on her face had faded dramatically overnight.
It was now so faint that it was barely visible.
Perhaps after one more treatment, it would disappear completely.
"Polly, the scar on your face is almost gone."
Rory’s eyes lit up with delight.
Polly had always possessed the kind of appearance that made people instinctively want to protect her. She was adorable, gentle, and sweet by nature. Now that the scar had nearly vanished, her features looked even softer and more charming.
Rory suddenly had the overwhelming urge to hug her and shower her with affection.
Earlier that morning, Polly had already spent a long time staring into the mirror.
Now she looked at Rory with sincere gratitude.
"Rory, it’s all thanks to the medicine your mate provided. The fact that my face can heal is because of you and your mates. You’re my benefactors."
Rory laughed softly.
"You should be thanking your brother instead."
She smiled warmly.
"He treated my mates and me, and we gave him the medicine as payment. Once we handed it over, it became his. He’s the one who chose to use it for you."
The credit belonged to Lian.
After saying that, Rory smoothly changed the subject.
"Polly, we’re leaving for the Central District soon. Are you really not coming back with us?"
Polly shook her head.
"I haven’t had enough fun yet."
A mischievous smile appeared on her face.
"I’ll go back after I’ve enjoyed myself a little longer."
Then she took Rory’s hand and gently led her away from the others.
Lowering her voice, she leaned close to Rory’s ear.
"Rory, I know that as your friend, I shouldn’t interfere in your relationships."
She hesitated briefly before continuing.
"But as Lian’s younger sister, I want to say a few words on his behalf."
Her expression turned unusually earnest.
"Just a few."
