Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Such Coincidences
Su Wan was stunned silly when she heard the name. She almost thought she had heard it wrong.
"Xiao Wei?" She repeated.
Zhou Shuran blinked and nodded. "That’s his name."
A lot of thoughts ran across Su Wan’s mind. How can it be such a coincidence? She subconsciously clenched her hand.
With a careful tone, she said, "Oh, their names indeed sound similar. Sister Anran is truly pitiful, taking care of her children all by herself."
Zhou Shuran sighed. "That’s right. My older sister is the strongest woman I know."
"When did her husband disappear?" Su Wan asked again.
Zhou Shuran frowned, calculating the time in her mind before she answered. "Around three or four years ago."
Su Wan’s pupils contracted, but she inwardly shook her head. Although there was such a huge coincidence between the time they found her imperial brother and Zhou Anran husband’s disappearance, the surname Xiao wasn’t exactly rare.
Perhaps... she should dig deeper into this.
The moment of Zhou Anran and her imperial brother’s meeting at the mansion in the back mountain flashed by her eyes. Her doubt deepened.
If her imperial brother was really Zhou Anran’s missing husband, she would recognize him, right? However, she acted as though she didn’t know him.
Just like other commoners when they met the imperial family, their first instinct was to feel fear. Zhou Anran always kept a respectful distance, and she also kind of avoided her imperial brother or even other men.
Su Wan sighed deeply. She thought that even when she had to take care of so many children, Zhou Anran stayed loyal to her husband and didn’t get married again.
If it were any woman, they might be unable to bear the economic burden and choose to remarry. After all, once someone was missing for so long, they were as good as declared dead.
"My lady." A voice called out to her and she snapped back to her senses.
She accepted the peach flavored soy milk and drank it.
At this moment, Zhou Wenzhi, Zhou Anran, and the children were heading to Luochuan County, which had lower elevation compared to Qingshan County.
It was a neighboring county where one of the river branches was heading to. They believed that there was a possibility Xiao Yuyan’s body might be washed there.
The family was riding on their ox cart with Xiao Fenghao serving as the coachman. After three days passed and Xiao Jingran hadn’t returned, they grew to be more restless.
"Jing’er must have met Mr. Han’s group," Zhou Wenzhi consoled. "With so many people gathering together, it should be safe."
They were waiting for either Xiao Jingran or Han Tingxun’s group to return first, but after three days passed, there was no trace of them.
Luochuan County was directly bordering their Qingshan county, closer to Hejia Village compared to the center of their county where they now lived.
They had left Zhou Shuran home in case Han Tingxun and his men returned or even Xiao Jingran. They still had to prepare for the worst scenario.
It took them three hours before they arrived in Luochuan County, definitely quicker compared to when they had to walk along the meandering riverside on foot.
Zhou Anran couldn’t help but pray that Xiao Yuyan would be alright. It didn’t matter how long time had passed, she didn’t want to stop until she saw her body with her own eyes.
The System said that one of her daughters was the female lead, and she desperately hoped it would be Xiao Yuyan. After all, according to the System, female leads had some sort of magical halo, a bigger chance for luck and survival.
However, as soon as they arrived on the river in Luochuan County, they saw people forbidding them from approaching, waving their hands and shaking their heads.
Zhou Anran gave Xiao Qingya to Xiao Yuxi and got off the ox cart. She approached a woman in her fifties.
"Older Sister, what happened? We want to pass by the river," She asked carefully.
The woman seemed to be flattered when Zhou Anran called her older sister, and her expression softened. She grabbed Zhou Anran’s hand and shook her head.
"Little Sister, you can’t! Don’t get closer to the river. Turn back!" The woman gave her honest advice, her voice tinged with a sense of urgency.
Zhou Anran’s had a faint sense of a bad premonition. "Is the river not safe...?"
She immediately nodded. "The river is flooded right now with water. It’s from Luoshui County. They had a few days of non-stop rain..."
Luoshui County had an even higher elevation compared to Qingshan county. They had a high mountain, and there was a river connecting to Luochuan County.
They directly bordered Luochuan County, which was located almost in the middle of Qingshan County and Luoshui County. Hence, the flooding water from the river didn’t cross Qingshan county.
The river branch in Luochuan County which flowed from Qingshan County was connected to the river branch from Luoshui county at some point.
Zhou Anran’s face paled when she heard that, and her body became weak. The woman was startled and she immediately supported her.
"Little sister, little sister! What’s wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?" She asked in panic while looking in the direction of the ox cart.
Xiao Fenghao hurriedly jumped and supported his mother. Zhou Anran clutched her head. The news made her feel lightheaded as though she was going to faint at any moment, but she desperately tried to stay awake.
"Mother!" He called anxiously, thanking the auntie and then led Zhou Anran toward the ox cart.
Zhou Wenzhi’s face was full of concern. "What happened?"
After the dizziness faded away slightly, Zhou Anran began to tell them. "The river is flooded from above..."
She bit her lip. "How about Yan’er... Jing’er.. has he arrived in the flooded area too?"
The figure of Xiao Yuanwei also flashed in her mind.
"How about we take a look there?" She asked them with a hint of hesitation.
