Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Divorce Letter

Zhou Wenzhi still couldn’t recover from the previous day’s embarrassment.

He really wouldn’t be able to face the neighbors in Hejia Village anymore! His old face was gone!

"Grandfather," Xiao Jingran elegantly greeted Zhou Wenzhi in his study. There were a lot of pieces of paper and ink on the table.

"Jing’er," he greeted back. "Here, it’s finally done."

Xiao Jingran swept his gaze on the paper and nodded, taking it from Zhou Wenzhi’s hand. "I will bring this to the yamen, Grandfather."

After Xiao Jingran left, Zhou Wenzhi took a deep breath. The embarrassment he felt that day was still so clear in his bones.

Besides the act of pretending to pass out, which scares the people there into calling Xiao Jingran, another helper finally arrived.

The people from the yamen.

They captured Chen Huayun to interrogate her regarding the human trafficker case and of course, also giving her punishment.

Today, Zhou Wenzhi finally also finished the letter of divorce, which Xiao Jingran would bring to the yamen. Xiao Jingran was invited by the magistrate to give a testimony witness for a certain case.

Magistrate Xu also had finally closed the net, trapping the Deputy Magistrate in one go.

The Sun family’s house that the Deputy Magistrate had bought was ransacked. They made use of Sun Daniu’s words to conduct an investigation there, uprooting several ’pieces of evidence’.

Of course, the pieces of evidence were not actually real.

Deputy Magistrate was such a slippery eel that it was hard to find his traces. He erased all traces of his involvement with the human traffickers ring.

As such... in order to close the net, Magistrate Xu already planted some items in that house.

Xiao Jingran was involved in this since he was the one who brought Sun Daniu’s letter as a proof of Deputy Magistrate’s involvement.

Today, he was needed there to give testimony. Since Chen Huayun was there, he decided that might as well bring the divorce letter to the old woman.

"Be careful on the way," Zhou Wenzhi reminded him. After Xiao Jingran left, he clasped his hands together and fell into a deep thought.

Because of yesterday’s incident, Zhou Shuran also had been so guilty and heartbroken that she locked herself in her room. Every time she opened the door, anyone could see her tear stained face.

The matter clearly had affected her a lot. Even when Xiao Qingya had come to console her, she would apologize and run.

"Sun Daniu, that human trafficker actually died last night. Mr. Han hasn’t even finished interrogating him." A yamen official spoke, shaking his head.

"He actually died?" His companion was surprised. "Killed or...?"

"He died before his execution day was even decided. I saw it with my own eyes this morning, and hiss..." the person paused for a dramatic effect.

His colleagues immediately pressed him to tell more; they weren’t assigned to take care of the prisoners, so they didn’t know the details yet.

The yamen official cleared his throat, his voice low. "He had a distorted expression on his face. His mouth was smeared with foam and vomit."

"It’s a sign of poisoning..."

"But..." the yamen’s official’s voice was as low as a whisper. "There are actually weird finger marks on his neck. The small fingers should show they are from a woman, and yet, we don’t have women here."

"Women’s finger marks? No one has visited him at all right?"

Xiao Jingran didn’t listen anymore because he was invited to Magistrate Xu’s office room. The news about Sun Daniu’s death was actually also a surprise for him.

However, it was also a good thing since it meant that Qiu Mu’s wish had been finally fulfilled.

As soon as he got back from the yamen, he would bring the Sun family’s sons to bid farewell for the last time to their mother. It wasn’t good for Qiu Mu to stay in the human world for too long.

Xiao Jingran and Magistrate Xu had a thorough discussion about the letter from Sun Daniu before the latter brought Deputy Magistrate inside.

Magistrate Xu didn’t immediately order the Deputy Magistrate’s capture as soon as he got the letter from Xiao Jingran some weeks ago. It was because he still needed to bait more people in the county’s management that were involved in the trafficking ring.

If he closed the net too soon, some fishes would run away.

The Deputy Magistrate ended up being scheduled for execution a few days later. Xiao Jingran left the room after the case was finished.

Xiao Jingran didn’t waste time and immediately went to visit Chen Huayun. Magistrate Xu easily gave him permission.

"Jingran, Xiao Jingran..." Chen Huayun immediately got up from the dirty cell floor. "Are you here on behalf of your grandfather? What did he say?"

"I am here to deliver something." Xiao Jingran said in a neutral tone. He held out the paper, and Chen Huayun hurriedly snatched it from him.

Alas, she couldn’t read much. She narrowed her eyes, trying to remember what her husband had taught her before. Still, she couldn’t understand anything.

Frowning, she turned to Xiao Jingran, clearing her throat. "Jingran, can you tell your grandmother what the letter says?"

"It’s a divorce letter," he said flatly before turning around and leaving the place amidst Chen Huayun’s loud and hysterical calls.

It was still noon when Xiao Jingran returned to the Zhou family’s old house.

Xiao Qingya immediately came up to him, her eyes sparkling. Except for her little aunt’s mental state which she felt bad about, the recent ordeal actually gave her so many rewards.

She received more system points, fertilizer, and also medicine.

Today, during the time Xiao Jingran was taking care of the matter at the yamen, she actually received another reward notification. Undoubtedly, it came from her eldest brother.

Xiao Jingran ruffled the little one’s hair. "Shall we depart to the Hejia Village?"

He would only bring the Sun family’s sons and his youngest sister with him. Zhou Anran was originally worried, not used to being separated from Xiao Qingya because the latter was travelling.

However, Xiao Jingran’s presence assured her, so she let her go with Xiao Jingran.

It took a few hours before they arrived. The five immediately went to the river.

Sun Tiezhu’s body trembled slightly. He cleared his throat and asked his younger brothers.

"If you were to meet Mother again for a few minutes, what would you say to her?"
