Chapter 39: If you can’t win them cheat them!

The Grey Knight stared at Finn with cold, unyielding eyes before speaking once again.

"For beating down your fellow students, you are to face justice by the Lieutenant’s hand, or by mine. Come peacefully... or die."

Finn grimaced at the sight of the Grey Knight standing amidst the beaten students and the bullies.

For the Grey Knight to openly reveal his support for the bullies in front of an innocent recruit—two innocent recruits if Finn was counted—showed just how dangerous whoever stood behind them truly was.

’You have really poked the wrong beast, Finn.’

Finn took a cautious step back, studying the Grey Knight’s expression and movements.

If it were only the group of bullies, he still stood a chance of winning.

But against a Grey Knight...

Finn was at a loss for words.

He had no idea how powerful an actual Grey Knight truly was.

And he did not want to find out.

’If I attack him, I’ll definitely be dead. I have to—’

Before Finn could complete his thought, his entire world erupted into pain.

The Knight flicked a finger forward.

That was all.

An unbearable force slammed into Finn’s gut, causing agony to explode throughout his entire body.

He groaned and staggered backward.

Instinctively clutching the source of pain, he raised his hand.

Blood.

His own blood stained his palm.

’Oh, fuck... What the hell was that attack?’

Finn raised his gaze back toward the Grey Knight.

The imposing figure was slowly approaching him.

"Did you think there would really be much of a fight here?" the Knight asked.

Finn gritted his teeth and steadied himself, gripping Admonis with both hands.

"You side yourself with bullies and call it justice. I’m not a big fan of honour and all that, but I know disgust when I see it."

The Knight frowned.

Then he flicked his hand again.

Finn sidestepped.

His body swayed as fast as his instincts allowed, barely escaping in time as an invisible blur tore through the air beside him.

A violent pressure brushed against his shoulder.

Had he been even slightly slower, the attack would have shattered his arm.

Before he could regain his balance, another attack came.

Finn threw himself to the ground and rolled across his shoulder, evading three more invisible projectiles.

Each strike crashed into the earth with explosive force, carving deep craters into the training grounds and sending fragments of stone flying into the air.

He gritted his teeth and rose to his feet.

Another projectile came.

Admonis intercepted it.

BOOM!

The force behind the impact was nothing short of monstrous.

Finn’s grip nearly broke.

The blade trembled violently in his hands, threatening to be ripped away entirely.

’So fast... so strong...’

The Grey Knight continued his barrage.

Flick after flick.

Each casual movement of his fingers unleashed another devastating projectile.

Yet the Knight looked completely relaxed.

As though this was merely a game.

Finn, on the other hand, was at his limit.

Dodging.

Parrying.

Blocking.

Every movement pushed his body closer to collapse.

His form remained sharp.

His reactions remained flawless.

His eyes tracked every attack with desperate precision.

But there were simply too many.

Eventually, a few slipped through.

One struck his thigh.

CRACK!

The force rattled his bones so violently that they threatened to splinter apart.

The next landed squarely on his shoulder.

Finn screamed.

Blood exploded from the wound as his entire left arm immediately went numb.

At that moment, Finn knew the truth.

There was no way out.

Not like this.

If things continued at this pace...

He was going to die.

"No!"

Finn gritted his teeth so hard they nearly cracked.

Then he did the unexpected.

He charged forward.

The sudden move caught the Grey Knight completely off guard.

For the first time since the battle began, his expression changed.

Confusion.

Then horror.

"What the hell are you doing?!" the Knight roared. "Do you want to die?!"

For the first time, he abandoned his relaxed stance.

His feet planted firmly against the ground.

His entire body shifted into a combat posture.

Then he raised his palm and swiped it toward the charging demon-masked recruit.

Finn saw it this time.

A massive wave of transparent force surged toward him.

It was nearly as large as his entire body.

A killing blow.

A strike meant to erase him completely.

And he was running straight toward it.

At full speed.

Without hesitation.

Without fear.

Without backing down.

BOOM!

The transparent projectile struck.

An explosion of stone, dust, and shattered concrete erupted into the air.

The shockwave rippled through the battlefield.

But...

There was no sign of the demon-masked man.

The Grey Knight’s eyes widened.

"Where... where did he go?"

He glanced left.

Then right.

Nothing.

For a brief moment, he turned toward the recruits behind him.

Perhaps they had seen something.

But they looked just as bewildered.

Just as confused.

Slowly, he turned back toward the cloud of dust.

And instantly regretted it.

Finn appeared from thin air.

Like a nightmare stepping out from between the cracks of reality itself.

Admonis flashed through the air.

The blade screamed.

A streak of black steel descending with all the fury, desperation, and determination Finn possessed.

He gave everything to that strike.

The last remnants of his strength.

The last fragments of his will.

The sword fell.

And cleaved through the Grey Knight’s arm.

"AHHHHHHH!"

The Knight shrieked.

His severed hand spun through the air before crashing against the ground.

Blood erupted from the stump.

The Grey Knight staggered backward before collapsing onto his back, clutching the mangled remains of his arm.

The eyes of every recruit widened.

Disbelief.

Shock.

Awe.

None of them could understand what they had just witnessed.

The battle had ended almost as quickly as it had begun.

A Grey Knight.

One of the elite warriors of the Gravemont Family.

Defeated.

By a simple masked recruit.

Was this man really a recruit?

Or were the rumours true?

Was he truly one of the Corrupted?

Their gazes slowly drifted away from the screaming Knight and toward the place where the demon-masked man had stood.

To their surprise...

He was gone.

It did not take long for the Grey Knight to notice.

Ignoring the agony coursing through his body, he forced himself upright.

His face twisted with rage.

Pure, unfiltered rage.

"GET HIM!" he roared.

"Get that bastard and fucking kill him!"

His voice echoed across the grounds.

"Alert the entire academy!"

The veins on his neck bulged violently as he clutched his bleeding stump.

"AHHHHH!"

"KILL HIM!"
