Chapter 90: Sennia’s Little Scheme
Lucas stepped into the hospital room carrying several bags in his hands.
The sterile scent of disinfectant filled the air as he made his way toward the bed by the window.
The moment he saw Sennia, his steps slowed.
She looked far worse than he had expected.
Her face was pale, lacking its usual lively glow. A thick blanket was wrapped tightly around her body, and she looked as though she were suffering from a severe cold. Even sitting up seemed difficult for her.
When Sennia noticed him entering, her eyes immediately brightened.
"Lucas."
Her weak voice carried an unmistakable trace of happiness.
Without hesitation, she stretched out her arms toward him.
"Come closer."
Lucas was slightly confused but still walked over to her bedside.
The instant he got close enough, Sennia wrapped her arms around him.
The hug caught him completely off guard.
She held him tightly, almost as if she had not seen him in years.
Lucas could feel the warmth of her body despite her weakened condition.
For a moment, he simply stood there, unsure of how to react.
Why was she acting like this?
The affection she was showing felt far beyond what he had expected.
Curious, Lucas secretly checked the system.
A translucent panel appeared before his eyes.
Favorability: 35
Lucas frowned slightly.
Thirty-five points.
That number was nowhere near high enough to explain the amount of affection she was currently displaying.
Yet Sennia showed no intention of letting go.
Only after several moments did she finally loosen her grip.
Lucas placed the bags he had brought onto the bedside table.
"I brought some things for you."
One by one, he showed her everything he had purchased.
Fruit.
Snacks.
Medicine.
And several small items he thought she might need during her recovery.
As Sennia watched him carefully unpack everything, a warm feeling spread through her heart.
She had not expected him to be this thoughtful.
The fact that he had taken the time to buy so many things for her made her genuinely happy.
A faint smile appeared on her pale face.
"Come here again."
Before Lucas could ask why, Sennia reached out and pulled him into another hug.
This time she sat up slightly on the bed.
Despite her weakened state, she held onto him firmly.
Lucas could only helplessly endure it as she clung to him once more.
The atmosphere in the room gradually became quiet.
Neither of them noticed the footsteps approaching from outside.
Suddenly, the door swung open.
The nurse entered the room.
Behind her was another woman.
Jessica.
Lucas’s ex-girlfriend.
Jessica had originally come to visit Sennia after hearing that she had been hospitalized.
The moment she stepped through the doorway, her gaze landed on the figure sitting beside the bed.
At first, she only saw someone’s back.
She frowned slightly.
For some reason, the silhouette looked strangely familiar.
Then the person turned his head.
Jessica’s eyes widened.
Her body froze.
A look of disbelief appeared on her face.
It was Lucas.
Of all the people she expected to see in the hospital, he was the last one she imagined would be here.
For a moment, Jessica simply stood there in stunned silence, unable to process what she was seeing.
What the hell was going on?
Jessica stood frozen near the doorway, her mind in complete chaos.
Did Sennia bring her here to see Lucas?
Was she trying to reconcile the two of them?
Or was there some other reason she couldn’t understand?
At first, Jessica would have been pleased if Sennia had truly wanted to help her get back together with Lucas.
But the scene in front of her told a completely different story.
The way Sennia was acting around him was far too familiar.
Far too close.
It was nothing like what Jessica had expected.
At that moment, Lucas turned around.
The instant he saw Jessica standing behind the nurse, his expression darkened.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of happiness on his face.
Instead, there was only coldness and disgust.
Jessica clenched her fists.
Since she believed Sennia might be trying to bring them together, she immediately put on an angry expression.
"Sennia, is this why you asked the nurse to call me?" she demanded.
"Don’t tell me this is what I’m thinking. I’m not getting back together with him. I already gave him a chance before, and he wasted it."
Sennia blinked in confusion.
In truth, she had contacted Jessica because she was hospitalized.
At the time, she thought it was the right thing to do.
However, after ending the call, she remembered Jessica’s personality.
She honestly doubted Jessica would come.
That was why she had called Lucas afterward.
To her surprise, both of them had shown up.
Slowly sitting up in bed, Sennia looked apologetic.
"Oh... sorry, Jessica."
Her voice was weak.
"I honestly didn’t think you’d come. After our call, I contacted Lucas, and he came to visit me. I’m sorry for troubling you."
Then Jessica exploded.
"What the hell is going on here?"
"You called me all the way here for this?"
Her eyes immediately narrowed.
"Wait."
"How do you even have Lucas’s number?"
"And since when are the two of you this close?"
The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.
Her voice rose higher and higher.
Soon, the nurse and a doctor hurried forward to calm her down.
When she refused to listen, they eventually guided her out of the room despite her protests.
Even as she was dragged into the hallway, Jessica continued shouting.
The noise gradually faded as the door closed behind her.
Silence returned to the room.
Lucas looked toward Sennia.
She lowered her head slightly.
"Sorry," she said softly.
"I really didn’t expect her to come."
Seeing her pale face and weakened condition, Lucas shook his head.
"Don’t worry about it."
"You should focus on recovering."
Sennia nodded.
However, as Lucas looked at her, a thought suddenly crossed his mind.
Something wasn’t adding up.
He had checked the system earlier.
Her Favorability hadn’t increased.
Yet she had been acting unusually caring and affectionate ever since he arrived.
The more he thought about it, the stranger it felt.
Could all of this have been planned?
Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly.
No wonder he had felt that something was off from the beginning.
After staying a while longer, he finally stood up.
"I still have a few errands to take care of," he said.
"I should get going."
A trace of disappointment flashed through Sennia’s eyes.
"Already?"
Lucas nodded.
Sennia hesitated before asking softly, "Then... can I have one more hug before you leave?"
Without waiting for an answer, she reached out and wrapped her arms around him.
Compared to before, she held on even tighter.
It was almost as if she didn’t want him to leave at all.
Lucas could only stand there helplessly as Sennia stubbornly refused to let go.
