Chapter 241: Show me then, young one

The Zombie Angel’s chest tore wide open.

Inside there was no heart, no lungs, nothing belonging to a living body. Only a deep black pit, and from that pit, dozens, then hundreds of tentacles began pouring out.

Each tentacle stretched over ten meters long, pale white, its tip sprouting a small mouth full of teeth. They reached across the entire courtyard, writhing through the air, and whenever one of those heads touched a living creature, that mouth would clamp shut, drain it dry, then leave a desiccated husk behind.

The courtyard turned into hell in just a few seconds.

The remaining Survivors had nowhere left to run. Tentacles poured in from every direction, blanketing the ground, and screams began rising from all over.

On Morie’s control panel, numbers started jumping wildly.

"The suppression field is being eroded away." She said quickly. "This Angel is too strong. Each tentacle is its own energy source. The towers can’t pin all of them down."

Rover looked at the screen, eyes narrowing slightly.

One tentacle had just swept toward the main door.

[Main door durability: 96% → 91%.]

Just a light graze.

Five percent.

Selina darted forward and severed the tentacle, but immediately three others grew back in its place. She cut again, faster, sharper, amplified by the Garden of Eden to the point where every sword slash left a streak of light in the air. But there were far too many tentacles. Cut one, two grew back.

"Can’t clear them all." Selina said, her voice slightly urgent for the first time. "Master, this one is different. It won’t die."

Rover was silent for a few seconds.

Then he asked Nanoe: "If I let it continue, how many of the Survivors outside are going to survive?"

Nanoe glanced at the screen.

"Not many. Maybe a few more minutes and they’re finished."

"And after that?"

"It will only have one target left." Nanoe said. "Us."

Rover nodded.

That was the crux of it.

As long as there were still Survivors to kill, the Angel was distracted. But once the courtyard was cleared of people, all those hundreds of tentacles, plus the hand-wings, plus speed that surpassed even the Hunters, would all funnel into a single point.

The main door.

And the door’s durability wasn’t infinite.

Rover watched the monster for a little longer, then lowered his crossed arms.

"Morie."

"Yeah."

"How much charge does the Titan Soul-Sealing Tower still have?"

Morie understood his meaning immediately.

She looked at the numbers on the control panel, then raised her head.

"If I pull back the entire suppression field, stop slowing the low-level monsters, and funnel everything into a single strike..." She paused for half a second. "Enough for one Titan hand."

"Is one strike enough?"

"No." Morie answered directly. "This Angel is too strong. One Titan hand won’t kill it. Just enough to stun it for a few seconds."

Rover laughed coldly.

"A few seconds is enough."

He turned to Nanoe.

"Gather it up. Funnel all the tentacles and its whole body into the center of the courtyard. I need it standing still in one place."

Nanoe understood the plan immediately.

She started giving orders, her voice quick but without any hint of panic.

"Selina, stop slashing. Fall back to the door. Rilia, Thunder Dragon, same. Everyone pull back close to room 2705’s walls."

"Pull back?" Rilia paused slightly.

"Pull back." Nanoe said. "Let the remaining Survivors run into the center of the courtyard. The Angel will chase them. When it moves into the center, don’t let it back out."

It was a ruthless order.

Because it meant using the still-living Survivors as bait to lure the monster into position.

But no one in room 2705 objected.

Because those people had chosen to be there themselves, from the very moment they showed up at the room’s door and shouted to break it down.

The members fell back.

The surviving Survivors, stripped of the invisible barrier room 2705 had unintentionally been providing, panicked and ran into the only open space remaining, the center of the courtyard.

The Zombie Angel gave chase.

Hundreds of tentacles coiled together, pulling its body lunging into the center, the hand-wings spreading wide, the torn-open mouth letting out a roar that made the entire courtyard shake.

It moved right into position.

Morie pressed her hand down on the control panel.

"Pull back the entire suppression field."

The silver-gray light surrounding room 2705 went out in an instant.

In that moment, all the energy of the Titan Soul-Sealing Tower converged on a single point, accumulating, compressing, until even the air above the courtyard began to distort.

Then Morie said one sentence.

"Titan. Strike."

Above the courtyard’s gray sky, a massive hand appeared.

It had no color. It was only a pressure condensed into shape, a hand large enough to blot out an entire corner of the courtyard, carrying that ancient weight Rilia had once felt when it crushed Dokai.

The Zombie Angel raised its eyeless head.

For the first time, it sensed something larger than itself.

But it was already too late.

The Titan hand came down.

BOOM.

The entire courtyard shuddered. The gray stone floor cracked into hundreds of fissures. Hundreds of the Angel’s tentacles were crushed simultaneously, the hand-wings snapped and folded, and its three-meter body was pressed flat against the ground, the torn-open mouth releasing a roar that no longer had any shape to it.

It didn’t die.

But it was stunned.

Exactly as Morie had said.

A few seconds.

And that was all Rover needed.

He stepped toward the main door.

This time, he truly pushed the door open and walked out.

From the start of the trial until now, he hadn’t once stepped outside. He had let his women fight, let the defense towers operate, let Nanoe coordinate. But this last monster, he decided to deal with himself.

Not because the others couldn’t.

But because he wanted the surviving crowd on the grandstands to remember one thing clearly.

Who was at the center of room 2705.

Rover walked across the cracked courtyard, stepping over writhing tentacles, heading straight toward the Zombie Angel pinned under the Titan hand.

The monster sensed him approaching.

It tried to struggle, one surviving tentacle writhing and reaching toward him.

Rover didn’t dodge.

He only extended his hand, and in his palm, a certain light began to gather. Not Holy Light. Not lightning. Not any ability those people on the grandstands had ever seen.

It was something that made even the surrounding air go quiet.

Nanoe stood at the threshold, watching his back, and smiled faintly.

Deep in the fog curtain, the man in the tall top hat tilted his head.

The smile beneath his thin veil of fog slowly spread.

"Ah." He said softly, voice full of interest. "Now it begins."

The silver-tipped cane in his hand rotated lightly.

"Show me then, young one."

"Let me see just how much the son of that person has inherited."

And in the middle of the ruined courtyard, under the gazes of hundreds who had fallen silent, Rover clenched his fist.
