Chapter 227: A Manor Inside a Spaceship
After the Unnamed Explorer had completely vanished, the metal hall fell into an oddly strange silence.
The remaining pale blue waves in the air slowly dissolved, like the last ripples on a lake’s surface after a stone sinks to the bottom. The drones that had been hovering throughout the hall went dark, each one dropping to the metal floor with a dry clattering sound. The massive summoned satellite that had nearly pushed everyone past their limits had also completely vanished, leaving no trace behind.
The silence came so quickly that everyone had trouble adjusting.
Just seconds ago, they had been crushed by the pressure of an Overlord existence to the point of barely being able to breathe. Drones, stars, the massive satellite, spirits, everything had seemed to want to tear them apart. But in the blink of an eye, all the danger vanished, leaving only a vast, empty hall, shattered cubes, and cold air.
Rover stood still.
He looked at the space where the astronaut had just vanished, his gaze still deep. Just now, from the moment the Unnamed Explorer had pulled Nanoe into that strange space until it vanished, the entire process had happened too quickly. He didn’t know what had occurred between Nanoe and the other party, but he could be certain of one thing.
His woman had just learned something very important.
Nanoe also didn’t speak up immediately.
She stood beside Rover, the flames around her body completely retracted. The Flamebound Succubus form had vanished, the fire wings also gone, but a faint trace of red-gold light still lingered in her eyes. Her face was as gentle as usual, only beneath that gentleness was an additional pensiveness that was very hard to conceal.
Sunako looked at her for a while, finally unable to hold back and softly asked: "Sister Nanoe, what exactly happened just now? I only saw you and that astronaut disappear, then when you both came back, he stopped attacking."
Nanoe turned her head slightly to look at her, then looked at Rover.
She didn’t answer immediately.
Rover didn’t press her either. He knew if Nanoe felt she needed to speak now, she would. If she hadn’t yet, then it certainly meant it wasn’t appropriate to discuss right in this hall. Moreover, they still weren’t completely safe. This place was too strange. An Overlord astronaut vanishing didn’t mean all the danger had truly ended.
Rilia retracted her cold aura, her gaze still scanning around with alertness. Selina wiped blood from the corner of her mouth, the wound on her shoulder not serious, but the feeling of having been completely overwhelmed by the opponent still left her somewhat uncomfortable. Elith silently recalled most of the spider silk, leaving only a few small spiders continuing to check the surrounding area. The spiders crawled past the fallen drones, past the shattered cubes, then quietly returned to her feet.
Right at that moment, a very small sound rang out outside the hall.
Beep.
The sound wasn’t loud, but in the hall that had just become quiet, it was clear enough to make everyone immediately turn their heads.
Behind them, the circular metal gate they had used the password to pass through earlier was glowing again.
Not red warning light.
Not the cold light used to lock onto targets.
The password screen beside the gate displayed a soft blue light. The energy veining on the gate’s body lit up one by one, running along each metal ring before converging at the center. Then, the gate that had already partially opened slowly separated further.
Screech...
A heavy sound echoed in the hall.
Sunako unconsciously gripped the lantern in her hand tightly, her whole body stepping back half a step. "Opening again? I feel like every time a door in this place opens, nothing good happens."
Selina held her sword, the corner of her lips curving slightly but her gaze not relaxing at all. "Hopefully this time it’s not another astronaut. One was already trouble enough."
Rilia coldly watched the gate. The cold aura around her had retracted, but if anything changed, she could still immediately open [Frost Battle Domain]. Elith also directed a few spiders toward the gate first, but strangely no danger signal was transmitted back.
Rover looked at the widening gate.
No dangerous aura flooding out.
No spirits.
No warning sounds.
Only a gentle stream of fresh air blowing from beyond the gate, carrying the scent of green grass, clean water, and a very strange sweet fragrance like fruit just ripened. That stream of air swept through the cold metal hall, making the deathly atmosphere from before seem somewhat diluted.
Everyone was stunned.
Because this fragrance was completely incompatible with this place.
They were inside a strange metal compartment, like a spaceship’s hold buried underground. Around them were shattered cubes, spirits, drones, the satellite, the Unnamed Explorer, and countless dangerous things. But what was flowing from beyond the gate right now resembled the air of a peaceful meadow.
The gate fully opened.
The space beyond came into view before everyone.
Sunako’s mouth fell open.
Rilia also narrowed her eyes slightly.
Even Nanoe showed a clear look of astonishment.
What lay beyond the gate wasn’t a metal corridor.
Nor a laboratory.
It was an extremely vast space.
A manor.
A manor located inside a spaceship.
Ahead stretched a green meadow, soft blades of grass swaying gently in a breeze that came from no discernible source. A little further away was a clear lake, its still surface reflecting the soft light from the ceiling. A small river wound through the meadow, water flowing from a place no one could see, then disappearing toward another corner of the space.
In the middle of the manor stood a large house.
The house was built of wood, warm in color, completely different from the cold metal walls they had just passed through. Around the house were many large trees with dark green canopies. Hanging from the branches were strange fruits no one recognized: some pale purple, some transparent like glass, others emitting a very faint blue glow. A few of the fruits also gave off a light sweet fragrance, the same scent that had just drifted into the metal hall on the wind.
Rover looked up.
The sky wasn’t a sky.
It was the ceiling.
A massive metal dome covered the entire space, but on it were countless strange symbols glowing with light. Those symbols floated and flowed slowly, like magic, producing gentle light in place of the sun. That light wasn’t blinding, nor cold like the lights in the metal hall, but instead carried a sense of warmth and stability.
This place was roughly twenty hectares.
For a small group like them, an area like this was no different from a small prairie enclosed within a spaceship. If not for the metal dome overhead still reminding them this was an artificial space, they might have truly thought they had just stepped through a teleportation door into a completely different land.
Sunako looked at the scene before them, taking a long moment before being able to speak. "This... is this really inside the ship? Who would build such a huge manor inside a spaceship?"
Elith looked at the tree canopies, then at the dome above. "Doesn’t look like an illusion."
Rilia stepped forward first. The tip of her foot pressed into the soft green grass. Real grass. The earth too was real. Not disguised metal. She bent down slightly, fingertip lightly touching the grass surface, then said coldly: "It’s real soil."
Rover followed behind.
The moment he stepped in, the cold sensation and pressure from the metal hall immediately diminished considerably. The air here was clean to an almost unbelievable degree. If not for the ceiling above still reminding them this was an artificial space, Rover might have even thought he had just walked through a teleportation door to some suburban area.
Nanoe slowly observed her surroundings, her gaze thoughtful. She wasn’t only looking at the beauty of this place, but also at how the meadow was arranged, the river flowing through, the lake positioned at the center, and the large house standing in the middle of the entire space.
"A living space."
Rover looked at her.
Nanoe said softly: "Doesn’t resemble a place for combat. Doesn’t resemble a storage facility either. Everything here was prepared so people could survive long-term. Grass, trees, water, housing, light, air, none of it was arranged randomly."
Sunako, hearing this, looked toward the fruit trees, the lake, and the large house, then nodded very firmly. "If it were me, I’d also want to live here long-term. At least it looks far more comfortable than room 2705 was at the very beginning."
Rover glanced at her.
Sunako immediately cleared her throat, her expression becoming extremely serious. "Of course, room 2705 right now is also very good. I mean compared to the very start. At the very beginning room 2705 only had a bed and a door, which was admittedly a bit simple."
Rover said nothing more.
He also felt this place didn’t resemble a temporary base. Everything was arranged very thoroughly, from water, plants, soil to housing. If this truly was a compartment inside a spaceship, then whoever created it clearly didn’t only want to sustain life for a few days or months. This place seemed prepared so a group of people could live here for a very long time, even an entire lifetime without ever needing to leave.
They continued toward the large wooden house.
The closer they got, the more everyone realized the house was larger than expected. It had three floors, each floor with a very wide area, totaling over two hundred square meters. Outside was also a large porch with several wooden benches placed right beneath the overhang, like a place for residents here to sit and rest, gazing at the meadow and the distant lake.
The main door was unlocked.
Rover pushed the door open and walked in.
Inside was very clean.
No dust.
No smell of decay.
No signs of having been abandoned for a long time.
The living room was spacious, fully furnished with tables and chairs, and beside it were several large wooden shelves. A staircase led to the upper floor. Behind the living room was a kitchen, a storage area, and a dining room long enough to seat many people at once. Rover walked through, discovering this place truly had been built as a house for a group of people to live in long-term.
Not just a few people.
At least forty.
The long dining table, the seating, the number of bedrooms, the storage areas, the daily life tools, all of it proved this. Things here weren’t extravagant to the point of waste, but were extremely complete. It resembled a shelter carefully designed to ensure both survival and the preservation of a sense of ordinary living.
Selina walked into a side room, then stepped out and said: "There are many bedrooms. The layout isn’t like a hotel, more like a small dormitory or a communal living space."
Elith checked another area. "There’s a bathroom, storage, a workroom."
Sunako opened another door, looked inside, then immediately sighed. "This place is so thorough it makes me feel like it’s not real. If I hadn’t just seen that astronaut, I might think this was a reward from the game."
Rover felt the same way.
A manor located inside a spaceship.
A large house meant for many people to live in.
A lake, a river, fruit trees, a meadow, artificial light, clean air, clean water, bedrooms, a kitchen, storage. All of it seemed prepared so that whoever lived here could stay forever without ever needing to go outside.
