Chapter 222: The Treants...
"Hehe, the Treants, those tree-obsessed cunts. I can tell you all about them, alright!" Malgo hissed, seemingly recalling an unpleasant memory.
A shadow cast over Seth, causing him to look up and meet the gaze of the foreign race individual called Boris. In his huge hands, he carried a wooden tray with four black mugs.
Seth estimated each mug would hold about three liters of liquid at minimum.
The mugs were placed before all four of them. Elaine, the most adverse towards this, peeked into her mug, her face scowling as she caught sight of a bubbling green brew.
The massive alien Boris let out a heavy grunt and walked away, giving the cohort of four and Malgo some privacy.
Flashing a row of glistening teeth, Malgo chuckled, seeing as the three guys seemed mildly curious about the drink while Elaine visibly retched in disgust.
Green fumes puffed out of the mugs as bubbles brewed and popped, a strange enticing flowery scent drilling into their nostrils. The guys involuntarily gulped, drool slowly building as they glanced amongst each other.
Malgo watched, intrigued. It never got old seeing that shock and euphoric expression appear on first-time drinkers when they took their first sip of good-quality Star Dew Nectar.
Jack stared at the brew for some seconds. In silent determination, he suddenly reached for the handle, pressing the rims to his lips, and downed his first sip.
Seth, Uriel, and Elaine stared his way amidst the rowdy atmosphere of the tavern, their breaths slow and bathed.
Licking his lips, Seth felt the urge to take a swig himself, but he held back, waiting for Jack’s reaction.
Bam!
The mug slammed back onto the bar top as Jack stared at the bubbling brew in stoic silence...
"Well?" Curious, Elaine asked.
Jack remained silent for a few more seconds, smacking his lips. He chanted a single word: "Good!"
Taking another long, deep swig, he paused, his lips dripping green. "Very good!"
"Hehe! See, this friend sure has taste!" Malgo chuckled.
Seth glanced at the mug before him. Reaching out with both hands, he grabbed it, bringing it closer to his mouth.
A rich intoxicating aroma drifted in thicker waves down his nostrils. He took a full gulp...
Seth’s pupils constricted that very instant, a huge rush of dopamine flooding his brain cells. As he glanced down at the green brew—no, godly nectar!
He could feel the rich sizzling pops across his taste buds, the chill refreshing wave that pulsed through his system along with that gulp.
Saliva pooled underneath his tongue as his taste buds tried to make sense of a flavor so good his brain barely recognized it.
It was sweet, but not exactly. Sour, but not too much—just enough for the slight pinch and kick to still exist. The refreshing invigorating flavor distilled to his tongue?
Seth had no idea!
It was as though he was revisiting the first time he ever tasted sugar, as a kid, right this very moment.
Seth didn’t restrain the urge any longer. Swinging his head back, he took hungry gulps, his eyes misting... ’So good!’ he moaned inwardly.
Waves of revitalizing chills coursed through his very cells. He could feel his once dim bronze cells stirring awake under this cool flow.
The chill pulsed through his essence nodes, causing him to suddenly feel a refreshing change in flow speed and extreme smoothness in essence circulation.
This wasn’t just an ordinary drink. It had to be the nectar of the gods!
Seth didn’t relent, not until the very last drop cascaded down his throat. Licking his lips, he glanced at his friends. Aside from the still reluctant Elaine, the other two had emptied their mugs.
"Ahem!" The usually taciturn Jack cleared his throat, dragging his stool closer to Elaine’s.
"Are you going to have that?" he offered, his eyes glued to the mug the whole time.
Elaine felt the glance from the other two on her right. Suddenly feeling something amiss, she guarded the mug.
"No thank you, I’ll have a try first." Staring at the bubbling surface of the liquid, despite the enticing aroma, Elaine struggled with her first sip.
But that single sip was all it took. Her pupils dilated, her once unblemished pale face suddenly flushed ruddy red.
Elaine somehow felt an opposing effect to the guys—a soothing warm current flowing with the liquid down her throat into her abdomen. She shivered as a revitalizing current pulsed.
Her breath hitched. So used to the cold, she never imagined warmth could be so soothing.
Seth turned to Malgo, pushing the mug to order another batch of whatever divine nectar that was.
"First of all, boy, it’s called Star Dew Nectar. Second, I should have you know it actually has an intoxicating effect. It’s made up of compounds that surge throughout your cells—even brain cells aren’t exempt," Malgo warned.
Seth couldn’t care less. They’d be heading back to Earth tonight either way, right?
So while Boris came to fetch their mugs to refill, Seth got back into business mode.
"So, you said tree-obsessed cunts, huh? Sounds like history." Seth probed, his gaze narrowing slightly.
Malgo scoffed. "You bet your stars there’s history. If not, I’d be seeking your whereabouts to the other party instead of the other way around."
Seth’s eyes flashed, but not willing to explore another’s problem, he pushed for their objectives. "Good. It means you know them well..."
Malgo smiled. "The Treants, you see, are a C-tier race originating from a Silver-grade planet. Honestly speaking, they are not much on their own. After all, they aren’t even hegemons of their own home planet."
Giving Seth and the others a serious glare, he continued, "You see, the main issue is their affiliation!"
"Affiliation?" Uriel, who had never heard of this term in the Origin space before, curiously asked.
"He means factions... I told you guys about one, remember?" Seth replied.
Eyes flashing, the three others understood in that instant. New to this whole thing, they still had a hard time navigating between affiliation by race and by faction.
Malgo nodded. "Indeed, folks. The Treants are a core faction member of the Cosmic Tree Alliance!"
