Chapter 136: The oddity if a Variant

The earth rattled from the shuddering impact, the snake’s head carrying so much momentum and force it was buried neck-deep into the earth.

A grating crunch rang out, and the monstrous behemoth tore through rock and debris in an attempt to swallow its prey with it.

The Blood Priestess’s hips swayed, her lips curving in victory. "That’s my baby~" she praised.

But she wasn’t able to wear that smile for long. A prickling sensation washed across her skin, her hair stood on end as a deadly premonition assaulted her senses.

She didn’t tarry, she didn’t dare waste time wondering where the danger originated. Immediately she reacted as the space beneath her feet warped and her figure sank right into the earth.

Barely avoiding the frosty spear that ripped out of the colossal snake’s skull, obliterating it, tearing through the wind to deliver a devastating biting cold impact.

On impact, an eruption of absolute zero ignited, swallowing everything into a sea of blue.

In the place of the shattered beast, Elaine stood, her garment unruffled, her expression cold as her eyes pulsed with focused light.

The crimson flare from the icy blades carved over her hands burned brighter.

Her pupils swerved across the room in rapid motion, the crystal winter glow orbiting from her eyes honing in on her prey.

The priestess had just popped out of nowhere, heavily panting, sweat soaking her back as she stared at Elaine, her eyes now carrying a wary sheen.

"You... who are you! Who sent you!" she hissed, staring at Elaine in terror.

She was someone with the title of a demigod, the gods had bestowed their blessing upon her, boosting her prowess beyond imagination. But to think... she was still outmatched?

But as quickly as the light of fear steeled in her eyes, confidence reared its head. ’I still haven’t shown my true power. I still have a chance.’

But that didn’t cull the wariness and terror she held for her foe. She stared at Elaine in careful scrutiny.

But... she was human, and she blinked...

And that was all it took. A fraction of a fraction of a second of darkness, and by the time light bled back into her irises...

Her pupils constricted, quivering in horror. Her foe was already upon her. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Elaine’s figure had sliced through the wind with brutal purpose. Mobilizing the crimson blades, she swung fiercely.

Her blade was already inches from claiming her foe’s head, her eyes flickering with cold intensity and focus.

And just then she caught the feeling of something off.

The once panicked expression of the priestess warped into a chilling grin, her lips mouthing, "Just kidding!"

A shadow cast over Elaine — another colossal snake tearing out of the fabric of space.

Its massive maws parted, and in one straight flash, like a dolphin hopping out of the ocean for a snack, it swallowed Elaine’s frame whole.

But the priestess wasn’t so stupid as to hope she had won. Reality behind her pixelated into a mosaic-like warp.

She leaned backward, falling and disappearing right through the displaced space, her figure vanishing.

Right in time, as an overwhelming glow of crimson pulsed.

A crimson-colored slash glowing with brutal intensity burst straight through the colossal beast’s maws and streaked clean through its body.

Slicing it straight through and crushing the warped space from which the monster’s full body had yet to slither out.

The monster barely writhed as ice crusted over its frame, encasing it. The cracks followed, and the creature erupted into a glimmer of glowing blue sparks.

Elaine stood in the air surrounded by a sea of blue, her frame unfettered like an immortal fairy, her eyes honed through the fractured earthen room.

By this point she had already seen firsthand the true sinister capacity of variants.

Not only did their skill activation follow no sense of rhyme or reason, it took practically zero time for them to activate it.

And this was what put Elaine in such an annoying dynamic. She was so strong she could crush her foe like the scum she truly was, but things were too tricky.

Not only did she have to be wary of her output in power, her foe was also adept at utilizing her skill to its fullest advantage.

Her gaze once more settled on the Blood Order priestess.

A cold glint washed through her gaze. This time she had to act with prompt efficiency, vanquishing this wretch in one go.

After all, she was on a timer. Her mission was never to engage, but to swiftly rescue and lead the refugees out of here as far to safety as possible.

The priestess smiled, her hips swaying side to side as she took slow steps forward. "Dear sister, let me share the Gospel of blood with you."

A fervent light burned in the crazed gaze of the Blood Priestess as she took slow strides toward Elaine.

A deep wave of revulsion stirred in Elaine’s heart. Her arms swung, and a crimson slash streaked through space, but once more the target was gone.

Elaine’s vision swerved, focusing on her foe once more, who had appeared behind her, arms parted.

A layer of pixelated warps spread across space behind her, like a growing wall of displaced space.

The priestess flashed a sinister smile. "Since you deny the grace of blood, you leave me no choice! Behold the true power of a demigod born of blood!"

Instantly, an unsettling wave filtered into the air, settling its heavy might on the atmosphere.

The priestess’s eyes pulsed with a crimson bloody light, her dull pink locks billowing from the sheer emanation of power.

Elaine just stared, as though the pressure meant nothing.

And just then massive colossal scaley heads in numerous waves peaked out of the mosaic-layered space.

"Hahahaha, behold and shit your pants, bitch!"

Tens split to hundreds, which split to thousands — the sea of massive heads as numerous as the earthen room could hold.

And with a snap, a loud crackle boomed, as the heads whipped forth, maws wide, their frames racing through the wind like a deadly whip.
