Chapter 7: Forced Sleep

Blood dripped down the wall slowly, the crimson liquid hitting the floor below in a steady and repeating rhythm. A head was lodged deep into the wall, with one hand of the body slashed off and both legs ripped out. This was the body of the tank, the end result of a goblin champion that so eagerly wanted him dead.

On the opposite side of the corridor lay the body of the assassin, leaned against the wall with a splatter of blood behind her, like some sort of disturbing art. There was no life in either body. They had given their all to fight, that much could be seen from the slashes and deep wounds that covered the body of the goblin. But all of that failed to stop it from doing what it had to do, kill.

Kael watched with calm eyes as everything unfolded, not a trace of emotion for the two of them. He could not tell if it was because he genuinely hated them, or since becoming the dungeon, he had lost his emotions.

"I wished they could have suffered more before they died, but oh well, what can I say, the goblin did what I asked of it," Kael said. He was about to force the doors open again and have the goblin return to the fifth floor. He put his mind to it and the wall opened, but as soon as it did, Kael began feeling drowsy. It was an overwhelming sense of tiredness that overtook his entire mind.

"What the hell is going on with me?" He tried his best and gathered his mind just enough to ensure that the goblin left the second floor, and then he closed the door.

[You have exhausted all your operational power as the dungeon]

[You are going into forced sleep stage to recover energy]

[Dungeon will go into auto operational mode now]

Three messages came. Kael read each one as fast as he could. He was able to make sense of what it said and what it meant. He had been doing whatever he wanted since he became the dungeon, he didn’t think that there would be a cost for that.

"Tch, I can’t even stop myself, I’m falling asleep even if I don’t want to," he said those last words and everything went dark. He fell asleep right there.

The moment he fell asleep, everything went back to normal operation.

[........]

"I can’t find the artifacts, and I can’t find the two of them as well," William said, a frown plastered on his face.

When they had woken up, they realized that the two artifacts, the most valuable parts of the treasure they got, were gone, and so were the tank and the assassin. They had vanished, and that only led him to believe one thing, they had turned against them and betrayed them.

"To think they would betray us after everything that we have been through together," he said, raging like a volcano about to erupt. He turned and saw Violet seated on the floor with her back against the wall. She looked at him the same way you look at a puppy that was doing something rather interesting.

"Why the hell are you looking at me like that, Violet? Do you not understand what has happened?" He asked in anger.

"Of course I do," she replied and then smiled, the kind of smile the lady in the corner gives you to get you into her bed. "But there is really nothing that we can do here now, can we? I think it’s better we gather what we have here and head back. This is it for dungeon diving for a while," she said and then got up to her feet. "I always thought I would be the one to betray you guys first.

Give you up to some mighty old king so that he could kill and slay you all, and that would be the price for him to ravage my body and have rough but consensual sex with me," she said with a face that showed she was dead serious. She even looked like she was imagining it right there.

"Sick, you are definitely sick, Violet," William responded, and all she did was chuckle in response. She turned and looked at the newbies. One rushed up to her, a young man with a small frame. He could not even muster the courage to speak to her face to face, so he looked at the ground.

"Lady Violet, one of us is missing," he said, stuttering a bit. Violet raised her brows. She looked at the newbies and then counted, only to realize that there were five and not six.

"William, one of the newbies is missing."

"Huh? Missing? Could they have followed them?" He asked.

"I doubt it. Those two would have nothing to do with a newbie. If anything, he would slow them down," she explained.

"Sigh, we have to move out of here, this entire thing has fallen to shambles. We can’t go looking for one newbie, that’s what it means to be in a dungeon, you go missing and you are lost forever.

Everyone get your stuff, we are leaving," he gave the order and went to arrange himself and wait for them to be ready. When they were ready, they all left the alcove and headed into a corridor, heading for the first floor where they would leave from.

Not long after, the smell of blood met their noses and it got thicker with every step. Not long after, the horrific scene came into view and everyone was forced to stop. They saw the tank shoved into the wall and the assassin on the ground dead. They also saw the body of the newbie that had chased them.

The newbies were filled with disgust and fear when they saw the scene. A few could barely hold their guts and rushed to the walls to vomit right there.

Violet and William looked at the scene and they could only come to one conclusion.
