Chapter 48: Trophy
Ragna charged in fast with his hammer at his side, then he launched into the air, swung it to his back, and gathered all the momentum that he could into one powerful forward swing.
"Arghhhh!"
Guu looked up with excitement as he swung his cleaver.
CLANG!
The collision shook the air, and Ragna was thrown back. He landed on his feet and skidded back a few meters while his boots left a line in the ground.
He looked up, and Guu was already in front of him and swinging the cleaver again.
"Shit!" he cursed and moved to block the attack.
BAM!
The force threw him back. He hit the ground and rolled for a few meters before slamming the hammer into the ground and forcing himself to a stop.
He looked up fast, but this time Guu did not charge forward. He simply looked at Ragna on the ground.
Ragna got up to his feet. He rolled his shoulder a bit and then gripped his hammer again.
"You really are a powerful monster. Tch, I don’t see there being a way I win." He said that, but then a smile formed on his face and he spoke, "but I’d be damned if I don’t make you suffer for it. I’ll not allow a monster to take my town."
As soon as he was done saying that, he gripped the hammer tight, and some magical geometric runes appeared on it and glowed bright. It seemed this put a lot of weight on him as his veins bulged and his muscles grew more tense. It was clear that Ragna wanted to go all out.
He shifted his weight to his back leg and used it to launch forward with the speed of a shot cannon. No change in direction, he was simply coming right for Guu.
Guu did not back away as he saw this coming toward him. He pulled his sword in front of him and was ready to block the attack.
Ragna made it seem he was going to swing normally, but at the last moment he allowed the hammer to drop, caught it with his left hand, and swung from below.
Guu had not expected that at all. The hammer hit his cleaver, pushing it out of the way fast and creating a clean line of sight to Guu.
"I’ll make sure I give you hell!" Ragna yelled as he swung and slammed right into the chest of Guu.
BOOM!
Guu was thrown back so fast, he slammed into the ground and rolled. He stabbed his hand into the ground and used it to stop his movement. There was shock in his eyes when he looked up. Never had he thought Ragna would have pulled the move that he had just done.
Guu looked for Ragna, but he was nowhere to be seen, and then he sensed him coming from the side with the same speed as before. Guu could not react fast enough as the hammer slammed into his ribs and knocked him a few meters away.
Guu gritted his teeth as he stayed on his knees, his rage almost activated, but he managed to suppress it. Ragna thought he still had the upper hand in the situation, and so he charged in again, this time faster than before, and then he swung his hammer toward the head with an intent to kill.
BAM!
Guu raised his hand at the last moment and blocked the attack. The ground cracked, and a massive shockwave ripped through the battlefield.
Ragna was stunned when he saw how easily his attack was blocked. He knew that he had to retreat as fast as possible, and he tried to do that, but Guu grabbed the hammer and pulled Ragna in. He dropped his sword and used his free hand to punch Ragna right in the face so hard his body was sent hurling through the air like a sack of potatoes.
Ragna slammed into the ground extremely hard and rolled until he stopped. He coughed a huge amount of blood where he lay.
Guu rose to his feet and picked up his cleaver, and then he leaped into the air so high he cleared twenty feet with ease. He came down with both feet toward Ragna on the ground.
Ragna looked up and saw Guu coming down at him. If he failed to move now, he would die for sure. He gritted his teeth and rolled out of the way. Guu slammed into the ground, and a crater formed. The force pushed Ragna into the air. Guu locked onto him and then swung his blade with all his strength.
Ragna tucked under his hammer while in the air. The blade hit the hammer handle and slashed deep into it before hurling Ragna back several more feet.
Guu gave chase immediately. He caught up before Ragna could steady himself, immediately unleashing a barrage of attacks that Ragna was forced to block even in his state. Each one felt like a meteor was slamming into him. His entire body was screaming from the inside. He was coughing blood while blocking.
It kept on going until Ragna’s defense was shattered and the cleaver met with his chest. A massive gash formed as he was thrown back, blood pouring from his chest.
He hit the ground hard and rolled to a stop. A few seconds later, he struggled back to his feet, bleeding like a fountain. Guu looked at him and then spoke.
"You are a pretty good warrior, hence I shall not offer mercy. For those that choose to live by the blade, die by the blade."
After he said that, he dashed. His blade made a clean arc through the air as he slashed through Ragna in one go, killing him in an instant. The body collapsed to the ground, and blood pooled in seconds while Guu stood there. He bent down and picked up the hammer of Ragna.
"A trophy for defeating a warrior like you," he said and then turned around. It was time to kill the weaker ones.
