“I won’t accept this! I want back what is rightfully mine! The Blood Blade Sect I built with my own hands… how can I hand it over to three heartless beasts!”

Ouyang Feng clenched his fists tightly.

The rage and unwillingness in his eyes showed on his face. His arms trembled, his emotions barely held in check.

Chen Changsheng asked, “What then, after your revenge? And after that? When faced with even bigger troubles, what then?”

Ouyang Feng paused, lowering his head.

Chen Changsheng said, “I can also understand why you, a Jianghu person, feel so unwilling and so resolved.”

“But such matters…”

“I’m afraid I really can’t help.”

Chen Changsheng sighed, saying, “At least, that’s not how things work here with me.”

Ouyang Feng remained silent, despairing. He reached up and grabbed his hair, forcing himself to calm down.

“I have no way back.”

Chen Changsheng said, “Why should I help you? So you can create more bloodshed after you rise again? Wouldn’t that make me an accomplice?”

Ouyang Feng said, “What must I do for you to help, Sir? I’m willing to do anything, serve you faithfully. I beg you, help me this once. No matter what, I must have my revenge!”

“So persistent?”

Chen Changsheng sighed.

In his view, helping wouldn’t necessarily change anything.

The Jianghu was just interlocking chains of Karma. Who knew how much blood stained those hands? Could saying “a fresh start” truly mean a new beginning?

Obviously not. Some things were impossible to erase.

“I have to go,” Ouyang Feng said. “It’s a fight to the death now. They won’t let me go. They’ll find me eventually.”

Chen Changsheng sighed, “I, Chen Changsheng, might be able to help you this once.”

Ouyang Feng lifted his head, hope lighting his eyes.

Chen Changsheng continued, “But there are conditions.”

“I have but one copper coin. Whether you survive is your business. If you don’t survive, it’s none of my concern.”

“But if you do survive… you must promise me: never again indulge in your past deeds. For every life you took before, you save one from now on. For every evil deed done, you must do one good deed. Not one less.”

Ouyang Feng was stunned. “But… what if enemies seek me out?”

“That is exactly the grudge you must resolve yourself.”

After a brief silence.

Chen Changsheng spoke: “If that won’t fly, then I must ask you to leave.”

Ouyang Feng sat in the courtyard, torn and uncertain.

Much time later, he sighed heavily. A decision had been made.

Ouyang Feng stood up, pulling a Martial Arts manual from his robes.

He placed the book upon the stone table, along with a thumb ring.

“So many troubles began with this “Nine Yin Manual.” I hope you, Sir, will accept this book. Keep it from the villains’ hands. If you find it troublesome, just destroy it.”

“…I’ve disturbed you today. Farewell, Sir.”

He strode out of the courtyard gate and didn’t look back.

Lihua, who was drowsing on the table, stirred. After the man left, she asked, puzzled.

“He doesn’t want to live?” Lihua asked.

Chen Changsheng nodded. “You could say that.”

Lihua asked, “Why? Is living not good?”

Chen Changsheng explained, “For those deep in the Jianghu, turning back is hard. He’d rather stand and die here than just let it go.”

Lihua looked toward the gate, shaking her head.

“I don’t get it.”

She couldn’t understand why someone would choose death over such a path to life.

Could being dead truly be better than being alive?

Lihua asked again, “What is the Jianghu?”

“The Jianghu…”

Chen Changsheng thought for a moment, then said, “It’s messy and muddled, yet somehow follows its own logic.”

“Huh?”

Lihua was completely confused.

What did messy and logical even mean? She couldn’t grasp it.

Chen Changsheng stroked her fur. “No need to worry about it.”

“Oh.”

Lihua replied and asked no more.

Chen Changsheng’s gaze fell on the thumb ring on the table. He couldn’t help shaking his head.

After all, if that “Nine Yin Manual” fell into someone else’s hands, wouldn’t it just cause more bloodshed?

No matter what, it was connected to him, Chen Changsheng.

This was the Karma of the Mortal World.

The moment he saw Ouyang Feng, Chen Changsheng vaguely sensed threads of Karmic Retribution swirling toward him. It was his burden to bear, and he accepted it willingly.

“In the Cultivation path within the Mortal World, mistakes are inevitable.”

Chen Changsheng sighed. His Dao cultivation simply wasn’t refined enough. No point making excuses.

Later that night.

The irreverent Opera House staged the play “Secret Meeting with Qin Sanlang” once again.

Among the audience below appeared several pairs of cold, emotionless eyes.

Ouyang Feng, playing the Martial Artist Qin Sanlang on stage, sensed the unusual presence in the audience the moment he stood there.

He realized he could not avoid this any longer.

Ouyang Feng had refused the conditions Chen Changsheng offered.

Better a clean end now than the life that was proposed.

He refused to live like a monk afterward, accumulating merits through good deeds. Not that he thought doing good was bad, but he felt certain he couldn’t live that way. He’d rather live by vengeance and personal justice than be bound by such chains.

He should be free.

Die now, or die later.

Since he walked the Jianghu and did evil deeds, what chance was there for a peaceful end?

The moment the Martial Artist stepped onto the stage, several figures in the audience reached inside their robes. Hidden blades were among what they grasped.

According to the script, Qin Sanlang was supposed to be whispering sweet nothings to the actress on stage. Unexpectedly, today changed.

“WAAAYA!”

Qin Sanlang bellowed, eyes burning with anger.

“I prefer death! This Jianghu path!”

“Fetch my weapon! To chop down vermin like you!”

As his words fell, Qin Sanlang on stage suddenly pulled a gleaming long saber from beneath a table.

The audience below stared, bewildered.

Suddenly, a voice rang out.

“Now!”

Over a dozen men in the audience leaped into action, drawing swords and knives from sleeves, robes, and under tables!

“Kill!”

Instantly, the Opera House descended into chaos.

Sharp screams erupted. Panicked spectators scrambled to escape the hall. The actress on stage was paralyzed with terror, unable to move.

The Opera House became a chaotic mess. The occasional clash of blades rang out.

“Whoosh…”

Several lanterns were slashed and fell onto the stage curtains, igniting a fire immediately.

People pushed and shoved to flee the scene.

On the stage, Qin Sanlang was surrounded by over a dozen attackers. His stage makeup glowed vividly in the firelight, accentuating the fierce Martial Artist.

Amidst the flashing blades and flying swords, countless wounds opened on Qin Sanlang’s body. Blood flowed freely.

His vision began to swim. His steps grew unsteady.

On the stage of this irreverent Opera House.

Qin Sanlang finally played a true Martial Artist; using it to end his own life and his journey through the Jianghu he had witnessed.

“Heh…”

In his final moments, he spoke no words.

Just a soft chuckle, offering a final commentary on this life he had lived.
