To Ruyi, it felt somewhat unusual.

Wang Xingsheng asked, “Miss Ruyi, was it the cat who opened the door just now?”

Ruyi nodded. “Lihua is very smart.”

Wang Xingsheng couldn’t help but look at the cat again. It wasn’t the first time he knew the cat was smart, but he hadn’t expected it could even open doors.

This made him feel puzzled again.

Had it really been his imagination earlier?

He slowly came back to his senses and looked over. Mr. Chen was lying on the long chair, resting.

Wang Xingsheng paused, then said softly, “Miss Ruyi, maybe we shouldn’t disturb Mr. Chen.”

Ruyi paused, understanding. “Let Uncle Chen rest first.”

Wang Xingsheng nodded. “Then I’ll leave the noodles here. When Mr. Chen wakes up, Miss Ruyi, please remember to tell him.”

“Okay,” replied Ruyi.

Wang Xingsheng placed the noodles on the table. He glanced at Mr. Chen, said goodbye to Ruyi, and left the small courtyard.

Ruyi went up and closed the door.

She thought for a moment, then sat down on the steps under the eaves. She waved her hand, calling Lihua over.

Lihua came to Ruyi’s side and asked, “That person just now looked very familiar.”

“He came the day before yesterday.”

“Oh, Lihua remembers now.”

Ruyi asked, “Did Uncle Chen sleep very late yesterday?”

Lihua shook her head. “Don’t know. Lihua slept early.”

Ruyi made a soft sound of surprise and turned to look at Uncle Chen again.

She had never seen Uncle Chen sleep in.

Feeling curious, she asked again, “Uncle Chen shouldn’t need to sleep, right?”

Lihua said, “Good Human Chen sleeps often at night since he came here. But he didn’t sleep when we were traveling. He went for several days without sleep.”

“Really?”

“Yes, yes,” Lihua nodded.

Ruyi asked again, “If Immortals don’t need to sleep, and Lihua is a Monster, why do you also need to sleep?”

“Lihua likes sleeping.”

Ruyi smiled. “Lihua is really simple.”

Ruyi sighed softly. Her gaze fell on Mr. Chen. She didn’t know when Uncle Chen would wake up.

So, she would just wait slowly.

Time flew by quickly, and it was suddenly noon.

The bowl of noodles on the table had cooled completely. The sun was already shining on Chen Changsheng, yet he still hadn’t woken up.

This made Ruyi become vigilant. She even checked Uncle Chen’s breathing, but thankfully, he was fine.

So she asked again, “Was there anything wrong with Uncle Chen yesterday?”

Lihua thought back. “He seemed a bit unhappy. Lihua saw Good Human Chen frowning last night.”

“Really?”

Ruyi was stunned. It seemed like Uncle Chen was troubled by something.

“Did Uncle Chen tell Lihua what it was about?”

Lihua shook her head. “No.”

Ruyi sighed quietly and muttered, “Uncle Chen is really something. He keeps things to himself and never tells anyone.”

Lihua thought for a moment and agreed. “Ruyi is right.”

Ruyi rested her chin on her hand, deep in thought.

She stared at the sleeping Uncle Chen, trying to think of a solution.

If she asked him herself, Uncle Chen definitely wouldn’t say. Because in his eyes, she was probably still just a child. He wouldn’t tell her.

It was even more impossible if Lihua asked. Even if Uncle Chen told her, Lihua might not understand when repeating it later.

“What to do…”

Feeling helpless, Ruyi lifted her head. Her gaze passed over the courtyard wall, looking towards the opposite yard.

Whenever Chen Changsheng encountered such difficult matters, he would usually numb himself. Either by sleeping deeply or drinking a lot.

This time, he slept until late afternoon.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the sky was already a bit dark.

Chen Changsheng felt disoriented. Waking at such an hour brought an indescribable discomfort, as if he’d missed everything.

He sat up straight, shaking his head to clear it a little.

Unexpectedly, as he looked down, he saw a pair of pale green embroidered slippers within his sight, followed by a pale green embroidered dress.

Chen Changsheng paused. He looked up and saw Yun Xiang sitting at the stone table in front of him, watching him.

“Did Mr. Chen not rest last night?” Yun Xiang asked.

Chen Changsheng returned to the moment. He called out, “Miss Yun…”

He looked left and right. Neither Lihua nor Ruyi were there.

Chen Changsheng said, “I thought Ruyi would wake me.”

Yun Xiang looked at him. “I’ll make a pot of tea. Sir needs to wake up.”

“Don’t trouble…”

Before Chen Changsheng could finish, Yun Xiang didn’t give him the chance. She went inside to boil water.

In no time, a pot of tea was brought to the table.

Chen Changsheng breathed out softly, looking at the tea before him. “Thank you for the trouble, Miss Yun.”

Yun Xiang said, “I heard from Ruyi that Mr. Chen is facing something difficult.”

Chen Changsheng paused. “Is there?”

Yun Xiang said, “I know it’s your nature, Sir. But keeping things buried deep will cause problems. You can’t carry everything on your own forever, can you?”

Chen Changsheng opened his mouth. “It’s not that I won’t say. It’s just that some things are truly hard to bring up with people around.”

Yun Xiang looked at him. “But I want to hear.”

Chen Changsheng paused slightly. He looked at Yun Xiang, surprised.

This didn’t seem like her usual self.

Yun Xiang asked, “In Mr. Chen’s eyes, what am I? Just an old acquaintance?”

“Naturally…”

Chen Changsheng’s words stalled. He didn’t know how to continue. He felt dazed for a moment.

Yun Xiang was watching him, waiting.

Chen Changsheng breathed out. “A bosom friend.”

When Yun Xiang heard this, she also paused.

Her previously assertive demeanor vanished instantly, replaced with a deep blush.

Chen Changsheng quickly added, “If Miss Yun finds it offensive, I—”

“It’s not offensive.”

The courtyard fell silent.

The two gazed at each other.

Yun Xiang looked at the Green-Robed Gentleman before her and shook her head gently. “I don’t find it offensive.”

They met each other’s eyes for a long time.

Then, at some point, they both looked away. Suddenly, it felt awkward, slightly embarrassing. Even Chen Changsheng seemed a bit unsettled.

Yun Xiang even forgot why she had come today. Her face was terribly flushed, her heartbeat hard to calm.

Chen Changsheng coughed lightly. “So, Miss Yun, are you hungry?”

Yun Xiang didn’t dare to look at him. She just shook her head and whispered softly, “A little.”

Chen Changsheng stood up. “I’ll get some food. Miss Yun, you…”

“Ah, good.”
