Chapter 1671: I Think So Too
"His eyelid moved? Does that mean he's returning to life?!"
Everyone instinctively stepped forward to check.
"Stand back," Xie Aman suddenly barked coldly. "At a time like this, whoever steps forward is asking for trouble. If anything happens to Ninth Brother again, I'll hold you all accountable."
Whoosh!
The group instantly scattered in all directions. Some even raised both hands to show their innocence.
Elder Chen sighed. "Don't blame the Senior Sister for being cautious. These are extraordinary times. Everyone needs to be careful."
The crowd nodded. They all understood what Xie Aman was worried about. Although they had known one another for many years, the third-ranked core disciple had just died. For the Enlightenment God Palace, that was the most serious incident in nearly a thousand years.
A few moments passed, and Fang Chen finally opened his eyes. Xie Aman said nothing. She simply watched him quietly.
Fang Chen looked toward Chen Enxue. She looked the same as when she was alive, vivid and lifelike, except that all vitality had completely vanished from her body.
"Ninth Brother, how did Third Sister die?" Xie Aman asked.
"Third Senior Sister didn't die," Fang Chen answered.
Upon hearing that, the crowd was stunned.
She didn't die?
A trace of surprise flashed through Xie Aman's eyes. She pressed, "She didn't die, you say? Then why did her life lamp extinguish?"
"She chose the Ghost Immortal Path. What died was only her physical body," Fang Chen replied.
The group exchanged confused looks.
Xie Aman frowned. "She died during a descent into the Underworld. That means her soul died first. That is complete annihilation. A cultivator cannot even enter reincarnation that way."
"Ninth Brother is probably shaken and frightened," Nanming Ruyue said. "It's alright. Take your time and then tell us who killed Third Senior Sister. In the Enlightenment God Palace, you're absolutely safe."
Fang Chen paused for a moment and then said, "If we must say who killed Third Senior Sister... it was probably herself."
The crowd grew even more bewildered.
Herself? Had he been scared senseless? How could Chen Enxue possibly have killed herself?
Xie Aman's gaze grew increasingly solemn. "You mean... she committed suicide?"
"Yes. As for the specific reason, I believe you should ask her yourself. She should have already returned to the Enlightenment Underworld Realm."
At that moment, a core disciple hurried in. "Eldest Senior Sister! We found Third Senior Sister! She's at the Nether Guards Division, but Ninth Senior Brother still hasn't been located... Huh?"
He rushed into the hall only to see Fang Chen alive and well, staring at him. He immediately fell silent.
Hearing that Chen Enxue had truly appeared in the Enlightenment Underworld Realm, the crowd was shocked once more.
That proved that everything Fang Chen had just said was true.
Chen Enxue had really committed suicide?
"Elder Chen, Elder Jiang, Ninth Brother and I will enter the Underworld here. Please guard us," Xie Aman said.
The two elders nodded.
"Eldest Senior Sister, should we come along?" Nanming Ruyue asked.
"You stay here and keep watch," Xie Aman refused.
***
Soon after, she and Fang Chen appeared in the Nether Guards Division of the Enlightenment Underworld Realm.
Xie Aman looked at Chen Enxue with a stern expression. "Speak. What happened?"
Chen Enxue smiled faintly. Unlike her usual smile, this one was less provocative and more gentle.
When Xie Aman saw that smile, her eyes widened with disbelief.
Chen Enxue's smile widened. "I avenged Ninth Sister."
"You... avenged Ninth Sister? But her enemy was—"
Xie Aman's expression turned grave. "Did we target the wrong person back then?"
"Not entirely wrong. It's just that someone was hiding deeper behind the scenes. I've been searching for him all these years. After the Xie Zhi Division was established, I finally found him," Chen Enxue said. "After finding him, I took Ninth Brother along for a trip and dealt with him."
After a pause, she added, "Speaking of which, I have Ninth Brother to thank for this opportunity."
"You're making this confusing. Don't be vague. You're a core disciple of the Enlightenment God Palace. Even if your physical body is gone, you can't die in such a muddled way." Xie Aman sat down. "You speak first. After that, Ninth Brother will speak."
Chen Enxue glanced at Fang Chen and winked mischievously before clearing her throat. "This matter begins with Ninth Brother entering the Xie Zhi Division..."
Entering the Xiezhi Division?
Puzzled, Xie Aman shot Fang Chen a sideways glance. He had only joined recently. How did that connect to all this?
"Ninth Brother accepted a mission. The mission target mysteriously died. And then—"
Chen Enxue began by speaking about Fang Chen's mission. She then mentioned the Motian Division, Immortal Dizang, and his identity within the Xie Zhi Division.
"In the end, with my cultivation as an eighth-transformation Ghost Immortal, I forcibly suppressed him and left in style with Ninth Brother. Dizang City has already been wiped out. They won't find a shred of evidence."
After finishing, she took a sip of tea and waited for Xie Aman's reaction.
"The Motian Division... there are missions within the Xie Zhi Division concerning the Motian Division. If that's the case, I may have guessed the origins of the Motian Division." Xie Aman murmured softly.
Chen Enxue's lips curved slightly upward. "If you still can't guess, then you should give me your position as Senior Sister. I'm an eighth-transformation Ghost Immortal now. My cultivation isn't any weaker than yours."
"Senior Sisters, what is the origin of the Motian Division?" Fang Chen asked with a look of curiosity.
The two women glanced at him.
Xie Aman said softly, "The existence of the Motian Division is connected to the various Underworlds within the current Floating Pagoda Realm."
As expected. Otherwise, those Underworlds would have never obtained the Ghost Immortal Path.
Fang Chen's thoughts stirred. What worried him now was whether the ninth-transformation powerhouses of the various factions had reached some kind of alliance agreement with Motian Dizang.
"Don't tell Ninth Brother about this yet. His cultivation is still insufficient. There's no need for him to get entangled in this... However..." Chen Enxue glanced at Xie Aman. "As for matters concerning the demon race, you can tell him. He's very interested in that. Even when I hinted to him to stay out of it, he remained stubborn."
Xie Aman studied Chen Enxue carefully. "You think we can tell him about the demon race?"
She had directly brought up the demon race and was clearly taking a stance.
Xie Aman frowned. "Didn't you just say his cultivation was insufficient and that you didn't want him involved?"
"But he's already helped me kill an eighth-transformation Ghost Immortal. His horizons have already been broadened. Besides, he's a Soldier-Rank Xie Zhi member and knows two Formation Immortal Arts. I think he now qualifies to intervene," Chen Enxue said calmly.
Fang Chen nodded. "I think so too."
So that strange feeling earlier hadn't been an illusion. At the beginning, Chen Enxue had indeed deliberately tried to steer him away from the matter of the demon race.
Xie Aman frowned. "You still haven't explained the details clearly. We can discuss the demon race later. I want to know. How did you suppress and kill an eighth-transformation Ancient Immortal? If he couldn't defeat you, couldn't he at least escape?"
Chen Enxue answered righteously, "Because I am Chen Enxue. I am the Third Sister of the Enlightenment God Palace. Why would he be able to escape from my hands?"
Fang Chen had expected Xie Aman to scoff. But she unexpectedly gave a nod.
"That does make some sense," she replied. After a pause, she looked at Fang Chen and asked softly, "Ninth Brother, you're not exactly unfamiliar with the demon race either, are you?"
Fang Chen secretly sighed. So Senior Sister knows about some of the things Old Wang has been doing...
They are all more cunning than one another.
