Chapter 52: Dad, Belong to Me Alone!

The preceding ten days had manifested as a literal hell of conflicting and intertwined emotions within Cain’s absent mind. For on one hand, he was subjected to the most sublime forms of spiritual and psychological therapy by the solitary woman his heart adored—Lucy. Yet on the other hand, he was subjected to a bitter, lethal heartbreak constricting his very soul over the legendary "Jewel of Michael" that had been annihilated beneath her hands.

He lacked the knowledge of how to act, for his heart was as harsh upon him as a bitter adversary. Every single time he perceived her words or her sly touches, he cursed his transcendent power and cursed every single possession he owned. His internal voice bellowed at him to confess his love to her instantly, and to remain adjacent to this warm beauty even if he sustained some side damages.

Conversely, his mind exposed him to the worst varieties of continuous psychological torture, fluctuating between dread of the unknown, absolute wandering, and an overwhelming sensation of vulnerability. He invariably contemplated with a bleak perspective: "I am currently at the absolute peak of my weakness... and Lucy could entirely obliterate me at this precise moment if she so desired!"

At times, Cain experienced absolute despair regarding existence in its entirety. He recalled that everything he had sought and pursued within this world since his feet initially trod upon its soil was a solitary matter: absolute power. Yet now, owing to these accumulated negative emotions and the lethal conflict of ideas, his deeply rooted faith in power began to violently shudder... and he was highly vulnerable and in genuine peril of having his magical rank descend, plummeting to the Imperial Level!

All this distraction, combined with the minutes of daily therapy he obtained from Lucy, caused his mind to fracture; desiring to advance with might and monopolize her at any cost, while simultaneously desiring to retreat and flee so he would not sustain deeper losses. Who among the titans would not experience pure madness from such a circumstance?!

Cain was seated behind his luxurious desk now, having placed his fatigued head upon his arms over the polished wood, submerged in contemplation and intense physical and psychological exhaustion. At that precise moment, the door was knocked upon with a minor, gentle force... an intensely familiar knock.

It was glaringly evident that it was Amelia.

"Enter..." Cain uttered in a faint, spent voice.

And indeed, the door slowly parted, permitting Amelia to pace forward with her short stature and pure, childish form, advancing with her simple and innocent strides toward the interior. She spoken in a hesitant tone, "Lord Duke... is it... is it possible for me to inform you of something if you possess a margin of leisure?"

Amelia stood with ultimate politeness before the gargantuan desk. Cain slowly elevated his head, the contour of his fatigued and unkempt countenance manifesting, his hair thoroughly disheveled, lacking any customary ducal prestige. He gazed at her with eyes saturated with affection, gesturing to her with his finger to round the desk and approach him, "Come close to me..."

Amelia executed as her father gestured without hesitation, truly approaching him... and here... he placed his head with extreme gentleness and profound tenderness upon his small daughter’s shoulder, leaning with the entirety of his physique as though he were sleeping and resting upon her tiny shoulder.

Amelia was intensely startled by this rare, warm conduct from her father the Duke, yet via her innate instinct, she perceived and sensed that her father was passing through an exceedingly wretched psychological state and required this silent embrace.

Amelia murmured softly, "Lord Duke... I desire to inform you of something that materialized with me, and I desire your wise counsel regarding it... Can... can you answer me?"

Cain was listening to the respirations of his daughter as she spoke, experiencing a brand of serenity, "Of course I can assist you, Amelia... And if you desire the knowledge of anything, I can inform you of it instantly."

Amelia encouraged herself internally, taking a deep breath as she resolved to inform her father of what distressed her, "In truth, Lord Duke... one of the children confessed to me yesterday while I was playing within the public park. He stated to me with confidence that when he grows up and becomes obscenely wealthy, he will arrive with a massive, revered convoy to take me with him to his private palace..."

Cain was slightly startled by these words... and his thoughts shuddered: "Is there truly a small child within the park braver than I, confessing his emotions with simplicity, while I remain impotent, incapable of confessing?!" Yet distant from this comparison, the natural, fierce "fatherly jealousy" abruptly ignited within his chest, and he experienced a sweeping desire to obstruct any creature from distancing his cherished daughter from him.

Yet he suppressed his jealousy, resolving to counsel her with an advice that benefited her small awareness. He inquired calmly, "Amelia... what do you experience internally toward his discourse?"

Indications of anxiety and over-analysis materialized upon Amelia’s small facial expressions, "I deduce it is a snare... yes, it will undoubtedly be a malicious snare! He desires to render me emotionally attached to him merely to exploit and control me in the future!"

Cain smiled with sheer tenderness, touching her cheek, "Do you assume this ruin is truly what will materialize... or are you amplifying the matters, weaving scenarios more than the circumstance tolerates?"

Amelia wondered, contemplating his discourse with her tiny mind, "Can there exist another alternative save for exploitation and a snare?"

Cain returned to slowly retreat, resting his spent back upon his throne, stating in a tone that carried the philosophy of his wounds, "Yes... or that is what I deduce you will not credit easily now. There always exists a probability for the materialization of the dreads within your head. For existence will never permit you to be a hundred percent certain of what circulates internally... And the conclusive truth within this world is that there exists no easy data or truth ever."

Cain registered, as he uttered these precise words, that they were the very words he was in dire necessity of hearing and directing toward himself initially! This truth that resided within the depths of his chest, yet he invariably unearthed excuses or events that caused it to shrink internally and suppress him. It was possible for those signals he perceived from Lucy to be a mere red flag and peril, and it was possible for them not to be so... anything could materialize within human relationships. Yet the most critical deduction he desired to immerse within his daughter’s mind and himself was: "The most critical matter, Amelia... is what you experience within your depths, regardless of what this feeling resides and regardless of its consequences."

Amelia gazed with widened, large eyes toward Cain, who was smiling at her despite his brokenness, and she delivered the question that startled the ducal entity, "Lord Duke... do you love my mother?"

Cain’s smile froze for a second, then he approached her ear and whispered in an authentic tone devoid of falsehood, "Of course..."

Amelia gazed at her father, whose countenance carried a blend of complex and deep emotions, then she inquired with a heart pounding with swiftness as she attempted to master her small emotions, "Do you love Amelia... Dad?"

She had finally uttered it... her mouth articulated the word "Dad" overtly.

Cain’s heart shuddered from the depths. He patted her head with the gentleness and tenderness of a father, stating in a voice saturated with emotion, "Your father loves you immensely, Amelia... At times I experience from the excess of your love that you are my entire contemporary and ancient world. I am intensely sorry because I was not a good, stable father for you initially... yet harbor no anxiety, your father will deploy all he possesses of might, influence, and existence merely to render Amelia the happiest child within this universe."

At that precise moment, thoughts circulated within Amelia’s small mind with the swiftness of a hurricane, and the dominating notion grew more powerful and rigid within her intellect...

"If he loves me more than anything else within his existence... then why should my father not belong to me alone?! Why does he not monopolize his love, his heart, and his world for me only, as his small princess and his cherished daughter, the first and final within his heart?!"

He had stated with his own tongue that he loved her more than anything, and that he perceived within her his entire world! Did this not signify scientifically and emotionally that her father and his sweeping love could reside as a pure possession for her alone without a partner?1

She was a greedy child by nature, and possessiveness circulated within her veins.

(If he loved me more than anything... then why should he not belong to me alone?)

she questioned and resolved within her mind.

There were several harsh and terrifying words circulating within Amelia’s small mind, words that if her childish tongue articulated now, would be completely misunderstood and interpreted in an erroneous, horrifying manner by everyone. Yet she alone recognized the truth; she alone realized that this dominating love she demanded transcended the concepts of conventional, cliché romantic love.

It was the love of a daughter for her father, a love unblemished by vile desire, unblemished by material interest, and unblemished by a single shred of political exploitation. He loved her as his daughter, and she in return desired for this love to reside as the solitary, dominating entity within his mind and heart. She desired no other woman—even if it were her mother—to divide this throne with her! And despite her certain knowledge that her mother Lucy loved her father Cain, her father had now confessed that his love for her had transcended the status of any other person.

Amelia suppressed those terrifying words within her small mind, for she recognized she could not voice them overtly yet at this age. Yet her eyes flashed with the luster of absolute possessiveness as she gazed at her father’s spent physique, whispering in her secrecy a dark vow:

(I shall dominate you entirely, Dad... I shall render every shred and portion of your entity submissive and fully surrendered to me... so you belong to me, and me alone!)
