Chapter 271: Chapter 166: Li Zhi’s Hairpin

She barely hesitated before holding out the ice cream container she’d only tasted and shoving it right into Shen Yuan’s hands.

Her movement was swift, as if she were getting rid of a hot potato.

"The flavor... is a bit too ’rich’,"

Shen Yuan could hear an unmistakable hint of disdain in Li Zhi’s voice, more so than usual.

Li Zhi took the SoGood ice cream from Shen Yuan’s hand. "This one’s more my style."

Shen Yuan glanced down at the most expensive ice cream in his hand. It was almost untouched, with only a single small scoop missing. Then he looked up at Li Zhi’s retreating back as she walked away without a second thought.

Curiosity piqued, Shen Yuan took a bite of the ice cream himself.

’Okay, no wonder Li Zhi was so put off.’

However, Shen Yuan was far less picky about food than Li Zhi. After all, this was a guy who could eat pork ribs stewed with oranges.

’So what if it’s a little sweet?’

’Could it be any sweeter than my Li Bao?’

As the two of them strolled to the classroom door, Shen Yuan saw Ah Jie cornered in the hallway, in the middle of an interrogation.

Shen Yuan and Li Zhi exchanged a glance. After getting a silent nod of approval from her, he darted into the classroom, tossed the ice cream container, and immediately came back out to the hallway.

"Get anything out of him?" Shen Yuan asked Yang Ze, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Yang Ze shook his head helplessly and sighed. "He’s not talking. This kid’s lips are sealed tight."

Shen Yuan’s brows knitted together as his gaze shifted to Ah Jie, who was sitting off to the side.

The moment Ah Jie met Shen Yuan’s gaze, he looked at him like he was his savior and pleaded, "Yuan! Save me! I really didn’t do anything!"

Seeing Ah Jie’s miserable expression, Shen Yuan frowned slightly and remained silent for a long moment.

After a moment, he turned to Yang Ze and said, "Maybe he really doesn’t have any ulterior motives. You know how Ah Jie is. In a way, he’s like central air conditioning—nice and warm to everyone."

Chen Mingyu was clearly unsatisfied with this outcome. "We’re just letting him go like that?" he interjected, unwilling to drop it.

"Let me go, please let me go!" Ah Jie saw his chance and quickly yelled. "I’m central air! I’m a nice guy!"

He was even willing to put himself down to prove his innocence.

"I’m a nice guy who’s worse than a dog!"

However, the words were barely out of his mouth when he saw Shen Yuan looking at him with a straight face and suddenly say, "I won’t let you insult dogs like that!"

Ah Jie: ?

The next second, Ah Jie saw Shen Yuan make a grand gesture and announce to Yang Ze.

"Since we can’t get anything out of him, let’s just drop it."

A glimmer of gratitude had just begun to stir in Ah Jie’s heart when Shen Yuan’s next words rang in his ears.

"Just give him an Aruba, then."

Any trace of gratitude he’d just felt instantly vanished.

"I truly have nothing to confess! I’ve been wronged! I’m one of the good guys!"

As Ah Jie shouted his last-ditch pleas, he was dragged closer and closer to the back door of the classroom.

Soon enough, the two had an intimate encounter.

"AGH!"

Hearing Ah Jie’s scream, Shen Yuan looked away, unable to watch... then put more force into his grip.

"Jie, just hang in there! It’ll be over soon!"

"ARGH!"

Zhuo Peipei had been sitting quietly at her desk. But when she saw Ah Jie being dragged closer, flanked by Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu with his feet barely touching the ground, she shot up from her seat as if she’d been burned.

The student council president’s movements revealed a rare panic, and she even seemed at a complete loss for what to do.

Almost instinctively, she scrambled to step aside.

It was clear that whatever Ah Jie had said at the cafeteria entrance had dealt a massive blow to Peipei’s fragile heart.

Shen Yuan, standing by his desk, glanced at Ah Jie whimpering nearby and then at Zhuo Peipei, who was pointedly keeping her distance from him.

A grin suddenly spread across Shen Yuan’s face.

’Now this is getting unexpectedly interesting.’

Of course, that wasn’t what Shen Yuan cared about most. What he really cared about was having better ammunition to use against Zhuo Peipei in the future.

’You’ve got "Defend and Steal" going on now, so sooner or later, I’ll have to add "Joyful Rivals" to the mix for you.’

’Brilliant!’

During his lunch break, Shen Yuan ground out a few math problems before taking a nap.

He had planned to enjoy a nice nap until the bell rang, but halfway through, a sudden DING in his head jolted him awake.

Shen Yuan blearily opened his eyes to see a new quest pop up on the system panel before him.

[You did a nice job with the medal’s packaging, and Li Zhi was very satisfied with the gift. As it was getting close to dinnertime, Li Zhi took the opportunity to invite you over for dinner.]

[You naturally accepted and then watched as Li Zhi busied herself in the kitchen.]

[After dinner, you and Li Zhi went to the study.]

[Looking at the completely transformed study, your mind couldn’t help but drift to the past. Just then, you saw a hairpin fall from Li Zhi’s hair.]

[After picking up the hairpin, you noticed some scratches on its pearl surface, and that the clip itself was a bit loose. Clearly, she’s had it for a long time.]

[Give Li Zhi a new hairpin. Reward: A fragment of Li Zhi’s memory.]

The moment he saw the quest, Shen Yuan was instantly wide awake.

’Are you kidding me? This is a memory from Li Bao!’

After the last memory trip, Shen Yuan had resolved to get into the same university as Li Zhi.

As for this memory, Shen Yuan was naturally filled with anticipation.

As for the hairpin...

Shen Yuan’s first thought was to get her a pearl hairpin.
