Chapter 267: Chapter 165: Can’t You Be a Little More Mature Like Me?

After the long break between classes ended, Shen Yuan and Li Zhi walked with their class toward the academic building, surrounded by the clamor of footsteps and the chatter of their classmates.

Shen Yuan suddenly turned his head toward Li Zhi, a relaxed smile on his lips, and asked, "Hey, you still haven’t told me if you were satisfied with my answer from before."

Li Zhi, of course, knew what Shen Yuan was asking about.

Though that voice had been drowned out by the noise of the morning exercises, it felt as if it still hung in the morning breeze.

Li Zhi didn’t respond immediately.

She paused for a moment, her long, jet-black hair cascading down like inky ripples, hiding the tips of her ears which were quietly turning red.

Li Zhi’s gaze briefly landed on Shen Yuan’s face. Her almond-shaped eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly, wary like a startled bird, but then quickly darted away, looking toward the distant academic building.

The beautiful girl’s lips curved slightly in a non-smile, her voice as soft as a whisper, almost lost in the noisy crowd.

"Did I say I was going to answer you?"

After speaking, Li Zhi subtly quickened her pace. As her sleeve swayed, their shoulders brushed almost imperceptibly, and she pulled away slightly.

The girl’s figure blended into the crowd ahead, but she didn’t disappear from Shen Yuan’s sight.

Shen Yuan’s gaze followed Li Zhi intently.

As if pulled by an invisible thread, his eyes were locked firmly on Li Zhi’s retreating figure.

Her long, dark hair fluttering in the morning breeze, the sway of her sleeve—the details seemed to replay over and over in Shen Yuan’s mind.

A smile suddenly appeared on Shen Yuan’s face.

For the remaining two periods of the morning, Class 15 didn’t have normal lessons; instead, they had another exam.

As the chemistry test papers were passed down the rows, Shen Yuan’s brow furrowed tightly.

Now it was his turn to have a headache.

Ah Jie, sitting next to him, seemed to notice Shen Yuan’s distress. He turned, a grin on his face as he looked at Shen Yuan’s troubled expression, and said, "Yuan, ah. What’s comin’ is comin’."

Hearing Ah Jie, Shen Yuan rolled his eyes irritably and shot back, "Are you even going to pass English?"

"Hey, hey, hey!"

Ah Jie wasn’t happy. "Why’d you get so triggered, dude?"

"Pfft! We’ll see who’s really triggered!" Shen Yuan retorted, not backing down.

As the two were bickering back and forth, the chemistry teacher on the platform suddenly spoke up, "Mind your own business! No talking!"

Shen Yuan flashed Ah Jie an internationally recognized friendly gesture, and Ah Jie returned it in kind.

Shen Yuan’s attention began to focus on the chemistry test.

This test wasn’t too difficult, and Shen Yuan felt it was going okay as he worked through the problems.

Except for the last major question, which was a bit troublesome, Shen Yuan’s pace didn’t slow down.

When the bell rang, the classroom instantly erupted into activity. Students started turning in their papers, passing them forward one by one like a chain reaction.

Shen Yuan’s gaze traveled over the seven seats in front of him and landed on Li Zhi.

At that exact moment, Li Zhi was also looking at Shen Yuan.

Shen Yuan gave Li Zhi a nod, his meaning clear: let’s go to the cafeteria together.

Li Zhi nodded, and then they both stood up.

Just then, Ah Jie’s voice suddenly rang out by Shen Yuan’s ear, "Let’s go, let’s go! Lao Yuan, time to eat!"

However, before the words were even out of Ah Jie’s mouth, Zhuo Peipei’s voice cut in, "You idiot, Ah Jie, do you really think Shen Yuan would go to lunch with you?"

Hearing Zhuo Peipei, Ah Jie clearly froze for a second. He took a deep breath, as if about to retort, but ended up just letting it out.

He muttered to himself, "Damn, that actually makes sense."

Ah Jie turned his head to look at Shen Yuan, a hint of helplessness in his eyes.

He reached out, patted Shen Yuan’s shoulder gently, and said with a sigh, "Yuan, my man, I get it. This is as far as I can go with you, bro."

Shen Yuan shot Ah Jie a look and said irritably, "It’s just fucking lunch, what are you being so dramatic for? If you want to eat, let’s go together! But let’s get one thing straight, you’re fucking paying for your own food!"

Ah Jie nodded repeatedly.

"Let’s go, let’s go! Lunch time!" Ah Jie waved a hand, calling over Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu.

"Lunch, lunch! I want to eat that fruit dish!"

"Get lost!"

Shen Yuan looked at this bunch of idiot kids and shook his head.

"You guys are so childish. Can’t you be a little more mature, like me?"

Shen Yuan had just finished scolding Ah Jie and the others for being childish, but the words had barely left his mouth before he did something childish himself.

Shen Yuan turned around and started toward Li Zhi, not with a steady walk, but with a light, almost skipping gait.

His toes tapped lightly on the ground, his body bouncing slightly. His steps were as erratic as a grade schooler’s, and he even swayed his shoulders exaggeratedly at times, completely shedding the pretense of maturity he had put on moments before.

"Li Bao, I’m coming!"

Ah Jie’s mouth twitched. He was utterly speechless as he watched Shen Yuan’s retreating back.

Ah Jie turned to Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu, pointing at Shen Yuan and laughing. "And he fucking calls us childish. He’s even more childish than we are."

With that, Ah Jie copied Shen Yuan, skipping and hopping over to him.

"Yuanbao, I’m coming!"

Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu exchanged a look and, with perfect coordination, followed Ah Jie’s lead.

"Yuanbao, I’m coming!"

Soon, Shen Yuan’s exasperated voice echoed through the classroom.

"Get lost, get lost, get lost, get lost!"
